Dress sense.

I’m a london bus driver an we get issued a uniform.
7 white shirts, 3 pairs of trousers, fleece, jacket, hi vi body warmer.

I can’t see the point of wearing your own clothes when the company issues them.

If I owned a company, I would issue a uniform and enforce the wearing of it strictly.

Just returning to a previous employer who laid me off a few years ago, they pay for everything from jeans to shirts,t-shirts,steelies,overalls,jackets and winter coats, even snow boots.Anything else can be expensed.
When we arrive at a customer we all look clean and presentable, helps to take pride from the job.

Proper workwear for me unless working for Ginsters or UPS, yuk, but thread got me thinking of times gone by in a border q or on the train when I’d try to guess a drivers nationality by his attire, the Turk in brown suit and pointy shoes, Spanish frigo dvr in immaculate faded jeans and sensible shoes, never gets dirty, the Henk in loud shirt and either trainers or some ridiculous truckstop clogs, the Paddy with truck dealer supplied jacket and Derby boots and the englander in ckeck shirt and rigger boots, unless working for up market side of things like shiny wheels from Reading then its a polo shirt with name on, seen the odd Swiss looking like he’s lost his horse and of course WBIS’s favourite the flip flop brigade. Did recently tip in NETTO Køge alongside a Trans Cargo Pole wearing a full black tie dinner outfit and winkle pickers. V strange indeed.

I playthat game as well    guess the nationality by the way they dress.
never knew what those boots were called that all the irish have but now i do
nearly all the spanish dress the same but who knows whats going on with the french, they are notorious in general for having no fashion sense whatsoever

I’ve always know those boots as “Dealers Boots” Got a couple of pairs myself, nice and comfy and easy to get on and off

Trouble is, the wearer looks like a knob from the 70’s!

The firm I was at last had a lot of Russian drivers, they do a lot of ADR work in that direction. Once I saw a truly Borat-esque camoflage mankini hung up to dry in the showers :open_mouth: it had to be one of theirs!
We were issued a uniform though, the usual dayglow Homer Simpson outfit. Now on removals I can wear what I want- shorts are pretty much essential, and I try to make sure I have a fresh company T-shirt for every day that I’ll be with a customer.

If it requires a uniform, it’s a worthless endeavor.

Maybe cowboy hats or tracky bottoms are a uniform?

Or are they a steriotype?

I wear a shirt with the company name on, a (clip on) navy blue tie, some trousers that are the first out of the wardrobe, and my Legoland baseball cap (the sun blinds on our coaches are crap)

Are epaulettes an option as well? And I bet you wear shiny shoes with White socks !

No epaulettes, and my shoes are far from shiny, in fact they are coated in dust, and my socks are black

back in my day 80s early 90s most of the boys out of essex east london dress code dealer boots jeans or joggers company polo shirt leather jacket may be a perm few highlights

summer italy spain clothing shorts vest clacks but who cares what you look like its what you smell like
always drumed in to me take time to shower wash and never come off the ferry up the a2 with a load
of stubble on your face as you will get a pull

I’m just grateful the bit of DHL I live in is a formally Exel bit and we have the blue uniform not the yellow one.

like gezt i work on the car transporters and when you work for the big companys you are issued trousers that have no studs( like jeans by the pockets) in if you wear a belt the metal clasp has to be covered all pockets are velcro your boots wont have any metal bits sticking out where the lace would wrap around. polo shirts full wet gear all zips are covered. when you have contracts moving new cars not allowed to wear anything that could scratch a car walking along side them. all rings either covered or off no watches. go into the honda factory and one of the checkers see’s any rings or wrong type of clothing off site until its sorted :unamused:

Rob K:
Interesting. A rant about appearance eh. This coming from the same person that has an out of control forest growing on his dial and isn’t familiar with the words “shaver”, “razor” or “beard trimmer”.

The irony of this thread did occur to me

Luke, you have one of the dodgiest syrups in trucking, be careful throwing stones in the greehouse :open_mouth:

I had to wear a tie for one firm . . I quite liked the idea

They stopped the ties in favour of polo shirts about 6 years ago.
