Actually it’s the sudden stop that does the damage.

  1. I have to ask did you not consider the fact you were probably going to be unemployable BEFORE you spent the money on the LGV training?
  2. I have also seen the results of drunk drivers - a lot of them thought they were OK to drive as well. One of them was an ambulance man - he only got caught because someone else hit him and the police breathalysed both drivers - that was the morning after.

So sorry another no sympathy vote - and yes I like a drink but NEVER within 12 hours of driving. I couldn’t live knowing last night’s booze killed an innocent mother/father/son/daughter/husband/wife.

ok the op was a stupid prat, and he (desevedly so) got done for his stupidity.but perhaps he `s matured a bit ,learnt his lesson and is trying to get on with his life ■■? although i can understand a reluctance to employ someone with a history of mixing alcahol and driving it was a while ago.

Hi Cleggy

I have read you know your stuff on here so i will reply

I did my class 1 and 2 because i want to do something i enjoy. My uncle was a truck driver and i got my bug for it from him he was an O Licence holder and ran two trucks one tipper W&D and one flat bed artic he used to do road works for Bruce Cook in Richmond North york across the country on a weekend i used to meet up and spend all day in the wagons tippers and sweepers. How the drivers all stuck up for everyone was great and they were always on the CB I was always on there for him while he drove to locations.

Yes i was a fool but if i didnt have a lot to drink and i know its no excuse i am not after sympathy i know i did wrong all i am after is a break from it so i get on with my life as i am 32 year old now.

Hey St PW
What about all the people who get killed by drivers who are not drunk?
We are human, we all make mistakes! Give the guy a chance, he came here to ask a simple question and was up front about his circumstances. We’ve all done things we shouldn’t, I bet even you, your holiness.
It really pusses me off the holier than thou attitude from some of the MEMBERS on here.

Must have been just my perception then. :-/

Yeah, another of the Luke vernon fan club

Was that aimed at me or the OP?

Yes you

As silly as it is to drink and drive don’t you think your being a little harsh on the guy, we all make mistakes and as a teen those mistakes are pretty huge but as long as you learn from them then that is good experience.

My only advice is do as much agency work as you can now while the DR10 is still on your license, once thats gone you should have easier time.

I really dont think im being harsh.i believe the drink driving punisment arent strong enough.if i had my way if your caught driving a hgv license over the limit you should never hold a hgv licenese again and be banned for 5 years.caught in a car then you should be banned for 5 years and pay a large fine.also if you killed somone due to a accident you should be charged with murder but thats just my opinion

Good luck with the job hunting you’ve paid for your crime & I’d lay money you wont do it again. Welcome to the world of truck driving.

But there are so many different factors when it comes to drink driving that you cannot tar everyone with the same brush.

The two extremes are totally wasted having jumped into a car right away and barely able to speak properly and there’s had an extra pint 8 hours ago down the pub, but I’m 1/2mg over the limit.

The latter you would be totally fine and your reflexes and cognitive ability will be the same as if you were 100% sober. Yet you’d still lock them away and throw away the key. I don’t drink at all because I hate the taste and after effects

Madmossey you are right you cant tar everycase the same but it really has to become harsher when caught

What about trying somewhere that uses drivers’ mates like removal companies, furniture companies,or flour millers? You might be just a mate for a few months but you’ll be on the insurance, so to speak which might make getting behind the wheel easier. You’ll learn valuable experience and see more routes this way. I’m a mate/relief and I take a notebook with me and write down stuff under customer names like parking restrictions, opening times, handball/pump truck etc.

I standby what I said. What happened to PROFESSIONAL drivers. There is no excuse for bad driving by anyone but I fail to see how anyone cannot be aware of the risks of drink driving - INCLUDING the night before. If that is self righteous or holier than holier than thou I’m guilty and ■■■■ proud to admit it.

I don’t claim to be perfect but I do claim to minimise the risk of an accident - and if I don’t get a drink the night before work - tough ■■■■.

Suppose the OP had been caught because he hit your wife/kids/parents and killed them - would it still be OK, would he still have been unlucky or an evil murder or similar?

PW.

The thing is, he didn’t. Plenty of drivers have had a drink the night before and not killed anybody. Stop believing the hype that governments offer saying everybody who does not comply with what they say should be shunned by society.
We are human and humans make mistakes, this is why we have laws that say after a certain amount of time offenders can say they haven’t commited a crime so get off the guys back and offer him advice or shut the ■■■■ up.
People like you make me sick, holier than thou, yes you are. I bet you have one or two skeletons in your closet, maybe jumped a red light or made a u turn,
The poster has come on here admitted his mistake, he has paid his dues to society now is trying to get his life back on track, but there are sun reading wanders like you who believe that no-one deserves a second chance.
