Importance Company Notice
A message from the Directors of CM Downton Ltd
We are pleased to announce that as of tomorrow Downton has been acquired by the EmergeVest Group.
The Downton family, along with a superb team of people, have built a first class UK logistics operation and one that we are extremely proud of.
This major decision has not been taken lightly, but for the good of everybody it is imperative that we have a well thought through succession plan, together with future investment for business growth.
EmergeVest are the correct successors to achieve this, and will bring fresh energy, vigour and focus. They have a great vision, and are building one of the most impressive logistics portfolios in the UK.
We wish to assure you that the Downton Brothers will continue to run the business in their roles as of today. Over time, EmergeVest - in conjunction with the Downton family - will build a
management team for the future.
They also own Cargo Group Services in Hong Kong. They currently:
Have 50+ UK operating centers across England and Wales and 30+ overseas operations / investments, a UK logistics network totalling 3 million square feet of warehousing space and 1,500 trucks, employ more than 2,000 truck drivers, operate a multi-temperature 4PL freight-management service in the UK underpinned by 300 partner carriers. They also do international inbound logistics operations with c.500,000 TEU of seafreight and c.75 million tonnes of airfreight under management.
Not just an investment company investing in anything in a shotgun approach.
This major decision has not been taken lightly, but for the good of everybody it is imperative that we have a well thought through succession plan, together with future investment for business growth.
“But we are really happy to make loads of money from the sale of the company” Probably at the expense of others! We really do hope that it won’t F up your lives in the future under the new owners!! Have a good day every one"
KERCHING!!!
They have been fattening up for a sale for a few years . There was someone else in for them a year or so ago . I bet it doesn’t include the depot itself in Gloucester.

I hate to see this. Same thing happened to the first decent firm I drove for, Taylor’s of martley. I’d like to think the founder, mr. Downtown is spinning in his grave like mr. Taylor probably did.

I used to do a bit of subbing now and again for Taylors in the 80s. I met old Don Taylor a few times, didn’t know he’d passed on, although I suppose he was a good age even then.
Knew his son, (can’t for the life of me remember his name) He did a bit of tranping himself before going into the office at Martley.
Remember a guy in the office called Tony, and oh yeh…I remember the village pub a mile or so from the yard.
All this company same happened .And in next 5 years will more company same or grabbing. Because most company was created so.e 30-40years ago.Now owner ready 60years or older. They want sold and get some money. But kids without interest to care on business.
