dover hauliers

Lonewolf Yorks:
Paul had a yard next to Stonar lake a few yards up from where Garys yard was which as I recall was somewhere not far from the toll bridge. There was a company called TIRs in the same yard run by a bloke called Colin who was lost at sea on a fishing trip.

eeh you couldn’t mek it up - you sound like trucking’s answer to alan bennett  did anyone mention EVR, part of carman’s empire? i had a run in with them early 90s which resulted in me confiscating a load until they came calling with pound notes :unamused:

Alan Bennett?

EVR that rings a bell. I also worked for MAT who worked out of Martin Husks yard.

Anyone remember the pub on the old Ramsgate - Dover road, the High and Dry. I once ran out of diesel on its forecourt :unamused:  :imp:

Morning all
Anybody remember P&M Goddard, especially when Mike Beer was the office boy and emptied the waste paper basket.

AAAAhhhhh what bliss.

A great guy and a great bunch of drivers that worked for him.

Hope this is the right size.

The mighty 142 in Mike Goddards Folkestone Road yard.

Running coal to Kingsnorth.

Hell on earth Kingsnorth Power station.
The Goddard F12 was origionally driven by John Messanger, but on this day was being piloted by a guy called Ally Crook.

Martin husk/coombe valley transport still there,my dads operatin centre and ive got my crusader in there 70.s livery,Martin is one of the nicest people around,my dads involvement with them goes way back,my first memories are of cvt lorries, anyway MAT went down a few year ago now and of course owed money to various people,Martin was one, dunno whether he got anything tho.
The High n dry is still goin but the old road finishes just after there,it ends at the farm just up the road on the left, the plough n harrow at tilmanstone is still there aswell but the garage jus after is long gone,Eastry is a bit narrow anyway but now its very tight in a lorry, cars everywhere etc.
The 256 was a favourite for the car transporters if i remember,on demurrage etc,not hangin about.

Yes,at farthingloe just up the road,he’s now at guston doin farming still, used to deliver stuff there when i did dover palletways, was chattin to him one day about old motors etc and he mentioned Roman casino, sacked him for takin the throttle stop off the pump on his 112.
And thats Steve Trice’s 142,lovely paint job that had, he did late have a second 3 series in the late eighties i think,at one time driven by Dave Dowling/Tommy Spike.dunno where Steve is now,he was runnin harley workshop up winchelsea road many moons ago.

Mikes memory must be playing him up…
Roman had his F86 and that was the vehicle that Roman opened up the pump.

I remember a message came into the office that Roman had to go somewhere,
Maybe Doctor or dentist so Mike went and met Roman out on the A2.
After a lot of arguing from Roman that it was OK and he would take the truck back to the yard,Mike eventually got into the 86.
Off he goes and is rather shocked to see flames etc. bellowing from the old 86’s
Exhaust.
I’m sure he didn’t sack Roman for this because he then had one of the 112 Mike had.
I know Roman tried to go it alone and had several motors some of which used to park in Cheriton.
On the truckphotos4sale site is a DAF 3300 in Goddard colours parked on the old garage site in Cheriton.
MIke Goddard to my knowledge never had any DAF’s.This could have been
Les Harringtons motor ,a phenominal O/D who also subbed from Mike.
That DAF ended up on its side on the M2 after going the wrong side of a bridge support. At the time it was running for Ferryline trailers from Fords at Bridgend.
The load of virtually undamaged engines then somehow vanished and certain persons ended up with a lot of cash, much to the annoyance of Ferryline,Ford and a whole bunch of insurance companies.
Certain person then went scuba diver in some of the most stunning places in the world.

You mentioned about the second 113.
Her it is when I was using Mr. Huggin’s yard in Lydden.

Dave Dowling,if that was the name he was using at that time wink, wink,
never had the blue 113.He drove the white one,a sister motor but one I bought from Dave Cass, who if I can remeber worked as Goldfinch Transport.

Just one more for the memory banks.

This east bound on M25 on top of Reigate hill when Biddy Baxters 141 spat its dummy out,and he needed a ■■■■■■ back to Dover.
Told him that he didn’t need to drop his trailer as I was just a shade over 40 tons, but Bid decided to get the trailer recovered by th F10/12 in the background.

A little while later he had the misfortune of his 112/142 not sure which ,loosing its front bumper on the approach to the Dartford tunnel.
As it had a Webasto heater fitted this meant all the radiator water went down the nearest drain.
AS I was in the queue behind I offered to drag the lot through the tunnel, behind my trailer up to Scantrux at Purfleet.
You can bog off came the reply from the tunnel Gestapo.

,black transcon called shoop shoop baby

I am particularly interested in this comment as I have been trying to trace this vehicle, SUR 57W for some time. As far as I am aware it was destroyed in a fire somewhere in Europe in the early 1990s  . If you can tell me any different I’d like to know about it.

Mr Huggins yard??

I worked with a Jerry Huggins at one time, I even have a photo somewhere. Any relations?

Lone Wolf

Shoo Shoo Baby was built by a chap called Tony Green in Sandwich.
I was speakingn to him last week,If you want a phone number ,let me know.

Tony used to build all sort of wonderful trucks.
I drove his Pegaso Tronor which he later extended to give a Kenworth size sleeper on.
