MrsScandia:
Hi, does anyone know a rapid covid testing site for hauliers near Kent? Thank you
Google gov.uk…they are all there, but beware they are`nt always upto speed, as was Donnington Svcs on monday, zero/nada and euro style shoulder shrugging all round…apparently i was a day too early
Thank you! I’ve done that! But we are down south and Thurrock and Reading one are way to far, o know there is one near j10a sevington but cannot get any info on actual process if it’s a drive through, or you need to book, costs, eating time, etc
Rownhams, Sutton Scotney, Fleet, any use? You dont say where youre going from and to. If Manston and Sevington are too far I dunno?
Free tests at Driver Advice Centres 06hr00 to 22hr00 according to site.
Tests are valid for 72 hrs I think, so that might affect where you do them? Maybe plan to load after doing test??
Well this could go some way to explain the lack of delays so far, a lot of it has simply stopped due to the increasing red tape needed to export
Aston Chemicals in Buckinghamshire, which imports and exports chemicals for the European personal care industry, exported its final load to Europe on December 18.
The firm has now set up a Polish branch and office in Macierzysz, some six miles from Warsaw, to supply to all EU countries, rather than exporting from Britain.
Managing director Dani Loughran told the Financial Times she was left with ‘no choice’ but to suspend cross-Channel operations because of ‘the duplication of EU chemical regulations, the risk of tariffs because of rules of origin, border delays and increased freight and administration costs.’
And
Rob Holliman, the director of Youngs Transport and Logistics, based in Purfleet in Essex, said it would not run any of its lorries in the first week of January to avoid disruption and ‘let things settle’.

Fair play to Rob & Paul @ Youngs, instead of sitting their hands and wasting a week, they went out and bought “North West Cargo” in Warrington…they see something shining bright on the horizon I reckon

If its rushing, it ain`t stopping, so stand back and let it pass…the next one will be along sooner or later
Like I said: factories. Making stuff. There’s more to Honda than cars. The Honda factory in the USA which once built Gold Wings now builds ‘power products’. Honda obviously couldn’t see a future for manufacturing anything in the UK post-Brexit. Likewise Triumph Motorcycles, relocated all mass production to Thailand, and Ineos Grenadier (owned by arch Brexiter Jim Ratface) which has abandoned its half-built assembly plant in Wales and is to produce the Looky-likey Land Rover in France.
We await with interest any major employer pulling out of the EU and building a factory in the UK instead. I hope it happens, but fear it won’t.
Motorbikes. Marine Outboard and Leisure.
I have been writing to Honda. 4 Power Road. Chiswick since I was 9 years old.
Honda Cars are also built in North America. Canada. Nigeria. Turkey. Brazil. Malaysia. India.
GasGas:
Honda Swindon has closed for a couple of days…‘supply problems’ just after the Xmas/NY shutdown.
This was the factory that was billed as having a ‘bright future’ post Brexit, but is now going to close for ever this Summer.
Worked out well, hey?
Honda announced years ago that Swindon would close, they said it had nothing to do with brexit.
That’s the problem with having so many foreign manufacturers here, they would much rather close a british plant than one in their own country. I can see the same happening with Vauxhall at some point.
Given there are no major UK car manufacturers left; would you prefer foreign owned factories, or no factories at all?
In the real world there doesnt seem another choice. Correct me if Im wrong.
You’re wrong. A British firm will build a new Land Rover style 4×4 vehicle in this country.
Oh, hang on…

Leave.EU have moved to Waterford…Eire…EUrope…
They haven`t left the EU, they have left the UK.
“Many social media users have mocked Leave.EU’s move and accused it of hypocrisy.” No kidding!
Just been speaking with a few colleagues.
One was on the tunnel this week, a whole 13 trucks on the train, about midday, mid week. Very quiet, even for January.
Our work is apparently picking up a bit next week, but nowhere near busy yet. All his docs were correct and no problems or delays. Some loads meant for this week are now on hold because of paperwork glitches, that is from a major name, so is a surprise, but should be just teething trouble.
Some clients are preparing docs themselves, some are using our (expanded) office to do docs, some are surprised that new docs are needed! The ones who are just waking up to Brexit will be up to speed soon, but everyone has extra costs, and they will be passing those down the line.
Although a truck driver will only have one doc with bar code in his/her possession that is a doc saying that all items in the load are correct. Each separate shipment will need codes before they are all grouped together.
A hundred quid(?) document for a 26 plt load is one thing, the same cost for 26 separate plts is a bit different. This isn`t going to aid any businesses in any way, but smaller ones will be disproportionately hit. Red-tape now where none existed before is no help to anyone.

A lot of the work will pick up soon. A lot of companies (ours as well) stockpiled materials in the run up to the new year. We have yard full of componenets that will take about 2 months to get through.

Im sure youre right. We were running silly stocking up for some clients, and warehouses were finding trouble to find space for offloading us.
One way and t`other it does mean a gentle start for the new systems. There will still be some hic-cups, and those will smooth out with time. But the ongoing need for extra checks, extra docs, extra vet visits, etc will be there as a time and financial penalty that will be ongoing.
Still haven’t gotten the books I ordered from Amazon.co.uk a month ago, €150 in total. But hey, will never have to order there again! A reasonable alternative is yet to be found though
I’ve been to Ireland in the lorry a couple of times so know a tiny amount about this route. This is unheard of. In my time boats were generally fully loaded every sailing, which having some of the biggest ferries in the world plying that route is A LOT of traffic.
