not sure why it started but the media is hyping up bad news stories like theres no tomorrow.

You know that’s been the very basis of news media for as long as it’s existed right? That generally they report news, often bad?

its only the last couple of years that the blatant fake news has ramped up. an example is “yellow weather warning, worst storm in living memory coming” then just a puff of wind . it can really dragged the spirits down, though my way round it is to do the exact opposite of any “advice” . i was on the A14 recently and an overhead sign said “go home and stay there” i said out loud "FUiRRK ORFF " and decided to pull up and stop awhile at the next exit and extended my time out.

Ah, now we are on the fake news bandwagon…I’ll leave you to it. (Funny how fake news only became a thing after that orange cry baby made such an issue of it)

Good work swearing at signs tho. And spending less time at home to ‘stick it to the man’, you rebel you

Shock horror, a newpaper gets it wrong. Who’s have thought it :unamused:

Those of us who said that these 50 mile queues of trucks at Dover were all just a figment of Remoaners’ imaginations? :stuck_out_tongue:

Got to love lorry drivers. Still find a reason to moan even after being proved right.

(Also the ‘who’s (sic) have thought it’ was a spot of sarcasm believe it or not)

Impartial and non sensationalist reporting is the cornerstone to good journalism. Unfortunately we are where we are…

Switchlogic can’t even manage to light the cooker to make his own tea so I’m not sure why anyone here is paying any attention to his whining about Brexit. He can be safely ignored.

I have one of these new fangled devices called a ‘flameless’ electric kettle. Good to see the forum police on hand though, good work Mick Old User New Name Bracewell. Have a lovely evening xxxx

(P.s - feel free to point out my ‘whining about Brexit’ on this thread)

Is a bit of a worry though that Mick appears to be spying on me at home

One doesn’t need to spy on you at home when you post your entire life on numerous social media platforms with minute by minute updates. :unamused:

Nope, those queues were there midweek most of last month on both sides and then the Covid fiasco kicked in. That’s the one that Boris was told 174 trucks rather than 7000 trucks were parked up.

Very little moving this week as is normal but the real pain I’m told is the mandatory Covid test in Manston for exports can take anywhere from 6 hours to 24 hours.

As said a soft start on imports for 3 months and another step up until full procedures enforced in July afaik.

When fully up and running I reckon it will be like doing Swiss. A bit of a PIA and an hour or 2 of your time wasted by officials that wouldn’t even look at you and then you are on your way.

However as I can’t see see us clearing imports at POE due to lack of space in all the ports, nor can we clear before being exported from the other country i.e. before boarding the ferry I’m not too sure how exactly it will work.

But there is a serious amount of learning and hard experience required before we get even close to the Swiss level of expediency so there will be some pain and delays for a good while yet and newspaper predictions won’t make one bit of difference to that reality.

As above
But as I pointed earlier it wasn’t the newspaper making stuff up, it was them reporting what Michael Gove, the Brexit minister was saying.

Goods from the EU, re-grouped in UK warehouses, seem liable to tariffs on their way to Eire.

Honda Swindon has closed for a couple of days…‘supply problems’ just after the Xmas/NY shutdown.

This was the factory that was billed as having a ‘bright future’ post Brexit, but is now going to close for ever this Summer.

Worked out well, hey?

Stop being so negative…sunlight uplands, bright future, control of our water, incontinence pads, plucky little ships, blue passports, ration coupons etc…

Just after the last election I heard two old couples discussing the results in Tescos.

“Isn’t it marvellous, it will be just like the good old days,” they said.

Oh yes, it probably will!

Just as a matter of interest…does anyone still think BJ is a competent Prime Minister?

I’ve been struggling to sort paper work & numbers ect for our Ni and Ireland trip this week ,agents wanting £40 to £100 ,luckily the customer support van cant find a covid loop hole to meet us out there so the jobs on hold for a while .

I’m sure Jacob Rees-Mogg would be happy to do it for you. After all, he said Brexit would get rid of red tape. And he’s one of our ‘betters’ so would know more than us peasants.

Honda announced years ago that Swindon would close, they said it had nothing to do with brexit.
That’s the problem with having so many foreign manufacturers here, they would much rather close a british plant than one in their own country. I can see the same happening with Vauxhall at some point.

Given there are no major UK car manufacturers left; would you prefer foreign owned factories, or no factories at all?
In the real world there doesnt seem another choice. Correct me if Im wrong.

Edit to add
I think youre correct that the Honda decision is not due to Brexit. Other existing or proposed plants future is another matter.

You’re wrong. A British firm will build a new Land Rover style 4×4 vehicle in this country.

Oh, hang on…

I would refer that we hadn’t sold it all off to foreign companies in the first place but yes, I agree that foreign owned plants are better than none but that’s not my point. If we can have a successful auto industry for other countries where all the profit goes abroad then why can’t we do for ourselves? Germany has managed to keep it’s manufacturing as has other countries.

Their EU HQ is to remain in Bracknell
