Don't Like Trucks? Then Stop Buying Stuff

Ok,Im not wanting to get into a three page debate (Its not like me I know!) but I think its a sad day when people doing a profession run it down all the time and make out its insignificant and unimportant.
Yes the world would survive without trucks. But it would also survive without electricians, plumbers, builders and any number of other trades.
There is no such thing as an unimportant job(except in Government circles of course). Ive never said truck driving is a trade or even difficult. But it does take a certain level of skill to manouvre a fully laden artic in some of the tight spaces and narrow roads we do. Look how many people struggle to park a corsa in an empty car park and tell me anyone can do it
Yes we may be expendable and replaceable but I’ll continue to think of my job and chosen profession as important and neccessery. ill leave the rest of you to continue running it down and arguing about how unimportant and low down the standings it is while at the same time demanding respect from the general public. How can you ask them to respect the job we do when some of you don’t even respect it yourselves?

I think someone can’t see the point here

That’s for sure.

All this waffle from a free sticker you get when you subscribe to t&d

I reckon mines pretty unimportant, I’m sure if I stopped doing it there wouldn’t be a state of panic in our great nation.

Yes there would. As the shops run empty, panic buying and anarchy sets in

Radar ’ s got a freshly minted license. He is also under 25 if memory serves. So he’s got double blinders on.

  1. He’s got the militancy of new driver.
  2. Hasn’t experienced anything other than life with huge superstores. So its hard to imagine life without them.

Yes Radar, we do see your point when you pose that question. We are just saying truck driving and filling superstore shelves isn’t the Bob Geldof job some drivers make it out to be.

Running it down or reality check?

Indeed it would.

No argument there.

I don’t think anyone has said it’s unimportant, it’s more about seeing it for what it is and not what some love to make it out to be. Which is pretty much what you are saying, it’s necessary but no more important than any other job.

I drive a truck that carry’s a racing car, so a very rich man can see if he can get his car to the point he started from quicker then some other very rich men driving their cars. All pretty pointless.

Sorry lads I’m a bit out of puff. Just ran up the road to tesco and I can confirm that they do not sell racing cars. Or in fact trees.

You and many others,

And strangely despite the complete pointlessness of motorsport, people seem happier to see my truck or talk to me about what I do than the truck delivering food to their local supermarket. With logic like this I can’t see how a sticker is going to do a lot of good, you just have to do your job and enjoy it and stop believing everybody should understand or care what you are doing.

Hilarious as always :unamused: . Well yes Muckles may be right, the world will turn just fine without his job exsisting. I didnt know he delivered racing cars. But try to see past your attempt at humour for a second and look at the big picture. I see hundreds of trucks on a daily basis. Im betting very very few of them are delivering racing cars. Most are delivering to shops, warehouses,RDC’s etc. Take ALL those trucks away and what happens? The shops empty. Look at what happens when someone even mentions fuel blockades. Queues and queues of panic buyers. What do you think will happen if trucks leave the road and shops begin to get low on supplies?

I didnt say it was a trade worthy of awe struck stares as we galiantly thunder past saving the country. Im not making it out to be a job everyone aspires to do when they are a nipper. All I said was its not a job you can apply for unless you have the neccessery qualifications and its not a job anyone can just train for and do. Plenty people cant handle their cars without letting them loose in a lorry. In one thread you have posters saying the country will survive without us and in anothor they demand higher hourly rates, respect from RDC staff and Vosa and all manner of other things. How is any of that going to be possible if they think of lorry driving as “not that important”,which is what you are saying? This is all getting out of hand and in danger of becoming another 5-6 pager completely off topic with lots of waffling and arguing and toing and froing. Im well aware truck driving isn’t a “trade”. The £8 p/h on offer clarifies that. Let’s just leave it at that shall we?

Crikey…are Sundays always like this on here??

I never said you did, but many do so.

Yes you need an easily obtainable licence/qualification to apply for the job but in fact it is a job that pretty much anyone, barring medical conditions, can train for, as is the case with many other jobs.

I know truck drivers who can squeeze an artic into the tightest of spaces but don’t ask them to reverse a hatchback in an empty supermarket car park. :stuck_out_tongue:

I have never said it’s not important. What I did say was it was no more important than most other jobs, that’s not the same as “not that important”, and it’s certainly not as important as some people like to claim.

The ones who generally bang on about demanding respect form RDC staff and so on are mostly those who don’t actually respect anyone and have a massive chip on their shoulder. I did the job for 20 odd years and never encountered a situation where I felt I wasn’t offered respect because of my chosen job.

I get you snowman. Methinks a bit of not-very-well thought out, low-level trolling has transpired. Just keep an eye out in the near future for some of these posters being ever-so-slightly hypocritical, and contradicting themselves.

Tin hat on. :unamused:
