Drempels as a matter of interest how would you have worded the statement written by the DVSA that you thought was written by a teenager?
I will say it definitely was not written by an author though.
As it was posted on soshal meeja it is aimed at a very broad church, so instead of the hysteria, squashed kittens, buses full of orphans etc, why not post a picture of the offending vehicle followed by something like “vehicle stopped with serious defects, c’mon guys n gals a basic walkaround check is all it takes to ensure we all go home safely at the end of the day”?
What he said.
Emotive language and spurious claims have their places in life. Road safety enforcement isn’t one of then.
I had a front wheel come loose less than an hour after ATS had fitted a new tyre at Trafford Park, he torqued it up (something we never used) but I only got as far as Whaley Bridge and the wheel was clanking away! I tightened it with a brace to get back home but it was knackered and had to be replaced, contacted ATS and the reply was “The driver should have rechecked them after half an hour, it says that on the paperwork” so no dice there!
Lost wheels was a regular thing at one time, it even had its own topic with The Ministry and I don’t think any real answer was found?. We lost a few, always on Motorways and always rear sets, and in all cases the driver didn’t realise until he stopped for a break or at the tipping site. Wheels were never found of course. The last Foden six wheeler I had broke front studs regularly, it was always front end heavy though with squeezing 17 tonnes into a short body designed for only 15 so that probably contributed to the problem with having extra weight on the front axle?

In theory the studs shouldn’t be bearing any of the weight of the vehicle - the only load on them should be the clamping force squeezing the wheel firmly against the mating face of the hub, with the weight of the vehicle and cornering etc forces being borne by the mechanical interface between hub/spigot and wheel. Of course, in practice all sorts of extra variables get thrown into the mix…
Back in the “olden days” when I was tyre fitting, most, if not all British built units/trailers had left hand thread wheel nuts on the nearside, the theory being that that the forward motion would keep the nuts tight.
Never used to use a torque wrench until it went metric on those fancy foreign motors, with spigots and collars.
We should all be wary of “loose tyres” and the danger they present - in life & limb terms, if nothing else!
Check those nuts - every day. We’re all given 15 minutes to do our walkaround checks - so DO them!

But all of road safety is based on what might have been due to your speeding/worn tyre/poorly secured load etc. They put it under the umberlla of “prevention”

I really cannot understand what upsets you so much. I can see your point however try reading some of their other posts but also try to see it from their point of view.
They deal with clowns everday who give them abuse when they are driving dangerous vehicles. It is a thankless job at times carried out by a lot of ex drivers (did you know?)
The whole point is no matter what we need in some way is to stop the dangers these vehicles and drivers present.
I think you would come across better if you put the theseaurus back in the drawer and stop being so critical of spelling.
What is up with this website? It’s a crap setup. Quotes lost, double posts etc.
Spend a few bob on updates perhaps?
I remember getting pulled long ago in to the works unit yard on M6 just south of J14 all was ok with me, but they had pulled another truck in behind me on one axle the suspension (springs) were only being held in place by the sheer weight of the load scary stuff.

You might want to rephrase that .
