Our company does pay parking…but you have to wait nearly 2 weeks to get your money back…so i obviously dont pay…not that i have many nights out anyway…i resent the fact i should pay from my own pocket for someones else`s truck…( they asked me once why i dont wash it…told them cos its not mine…i wash my car…cos its mine) they now employ a washer…
if i wanted to get back at them…i would park in places like toxteth…and wake up with no wheels or fuel…then they might re-consider their cheaper options…
Yes pays for everything and the meal voucher.
If I have any parking expenses, or any other business expenses, I pay from my pocket on the spot. My boss reimburses me all expenses at the end of the week, in cash.
I have to suffer European Truckstop facilities unfortunately .
Every company I have worked for, have reimbursed all parking or other business expenses I have had to pay out on their behalf (and I’ve worked for a lot of companies over the years).
That is the way it should be.
None of this, “I will pay the first £10”, rubbish.
I’ll do my best not to park on an MSA for the night, but sometimes there’s no choice.
Although my boss would pay the full cost, I feel that £20 to park is way to expensive and the facilities are generally poor. I’m not getting value for money, even though it’s my bosses money.
pulltopark, get your argument straight first, then debate your point.
If you first write one thing, then write another different thing, then change back to your original statement, sort of, your argument looses all credibility and so do you.
Every angle or point you have tried to argue is in writing and readily available to check, did this slip your mind also?

Good to see Flying Fenman back posting again. I don’t know about anyone else, but i have missed his diaries.
That’s touched me Kickstart, that has.
I don’t get on here too much these days, it has to be said. I’m back out down the road all week (tonight is the first weeknight at home for yonks and it wasn’t planned!!), and have recently moved house. Throw in a couple of holidays and I’ve really not had that much time to post. Though I do try and have a look every few weeks or so.
Next half-interesting week I have I’ll try and do another diary.
Welcome back Fenman,us Merc boys need all the support we can get .Last i heard you had a gas powered XF-how’d that go?

Hi mate.
You mean this little beauty?
Yeah it was a very interesting experiment. It ran on both diesel and LPG. I have a feeling we may be getting LPG powered trucks in the future. It isn’t appropriate for me to quote figures publicly because the firm is still trialling the system in other applications, however I will say that I was getting seriously good miles per gallon of diesel out of it. OK, you have to pay for the LPG as well, but that only costs like 60 ppl.
If I was running trucks, I’d have them fitted with it tomorrow.
We had a CF auto on demo too and from what I hear that one also did well.
Got allocated a new Volvo FH13 Globetrotter shortly after the DAF went back. What a pain it has been. My old ‘55’ reg Actros with well over 600,000 km still soldiers on (now double-shifted ) without any problems, and this new Volvo has something new go wrong with it on a daily basis.
Mercedes might be a bit dearer, but at least they bloody well go when you turn the key!!!

My gaffer expects us to park at truckstops and will pay £10.00 towards the cost of parking. That’s big of him. He’ll contribute toward your costs for parking his truck.

How much does he ask you to pay toward his other business costs, such as fuel and maintenance?
WTF is it with drivers? If someone posted on here that the boss had asked them to chip in toward the fuel bill there would, quite rightly, be a torrent of posts against the boss yet when bosses want the driver to contribute toward a different business cost, parking, it seems the majority accept this as normal.
A sane voice in a mad mad world, yes the services are a rip off but it ain’t your lorry so why put your hand in your pocket, madness!
imagine this
you = boss i am out of time and have to park somewhere expensive
boss = pot that for a game of soldiers park in layby or industrial estate
you = i need a shower a beer and some food
boss= thats your problem
so you go to the industrial estate and drop HIS trailer
back solo to somewhere expensive where YOU pay out of your own pocket
in the morning your as fresh as a daisey
so back to the layby where you thought you had dropped the trailer and then round the industrial estate
you = boss well mmmm mmmm mmmm
boss = i’ll pay for parking next time
My gaffer pays my tolls and parking although I have to initially pay and then claim back, usually paid back the following friday which is fine with me. I do try and chose my parking with the price in mind, ie I wouldn’t park in the M25 services which are something stupid like £28 or whatever, tend to aim for a ‘proper’ truckstop which is usually around the £10/£15 mark, and in my opinion paying for me to park away from home and away from a main road in a more quiet place with better facilities is fair considering he’s buying 9/11 hours of my time…bargain if you ask me !
god another 2 year old thread. musta donesome back reading
My company pays my parking no matter the price any tolls I go over and anything i need to buy as in screen wash, air freshener etc.
They actually include in my o/n allowance extra £5 for food(£22.50 + £5.00 for food =£27.50), they just think that what we claim back is just parking with no food voucher nobody’s told them and I hope it stays that way
so I get a free meal every night, I know msa food is not the best but it’s hot and when you’re starving who cares!!

And two years down the line I still think that any driver, except owner drivers, who pays to park the company vehicle out of his own pocket is an idiot.
Paying out of night out allowance = own pocket.
i get full parking paid but i hate paying it out. most of my nights are spent at doncaster railport or the second layby on brigg rd coming out of scunthorpe. if im over manchester way i stop at heywood.
Wow - that’s weird !
I clicked the ‘new posts’ button and just replied…didn’t even look at the dates…my bad
yep boss now pays for parking, but we are under instruction that we dont park at lymm as insurance company say it a theft hotspot (had trouble there with rear door being opened on my tipper and other driver got his tank emptied), quernhowe, markam moor truckstop and any layby south of doncaster

hows that? if you wish to park in a truckstop fine but you want nightout plus parking? your nightout money is yours to do as you wish, either pay to park or park elsewhere and keep your money. if companies paid parking but no nightout money you would complain!

Your nightout money is to provide at least 2 meals and the upkeep of bedding etc. You don’t own the truck, so why would you want to pay to park it somewhere?

Night out money is an allowance that with the agreement of the Revenue can be paid tax free and is to be used for personal expenses incurred while carrying out work for your employer. Parking of the vehicle is not a personal expense and you could find the tax man looking for some back tax from you when he finds out the money you have been given tax free has not been used for a personal expense. Personal expenses are such things as meals, showers, upkeep of bedding etc and are definitely not paying for parking a vehicle which doesn’t belong to you.
If you are paying to park the company vehicle out of your night out allowance you are paying that out of your own pocket, you better hope HMR&C don’t decide to have a purge on the transport industry, that could cost you a good few quid if they do.
Companies are having drivers over by getting them to pay one of the company business expenses out of their own pocket but for some reason a lot of drivers can’t see this or are bizarrely happy with the arrangement. These same drivers would shout long and loud, and rightly so, if they were asked to contribute to the diesel bill or pay for the odd service or tyre from their own pocket.
I am with coffeeholic on this one, company truck someone elses load.
Coffeholic is right why would you pay to park a truck outta your own pocket i sure wouldnt!!!
