Does your company pay for parking????

pulltopark:
Am I for real? Are you for real? Have you ever worked in transport? Have you ever spent nights away from home?

Gotta be a contender for ā€˜post of the year’ when aimed at Coffee!!

I’d say he wrote the book!!

pulltopark:
This is a standard practice throughout the whole of the transport industry.

No it isn’t.

I get paid for the inconvenience of having a night out, and the company also pay whatever it costs to park the vehicle in a truckstop / MSA etc.

Thats Coffee i will never pay for parking out of my own pocket, but i am lucky i get everything back even gas for stove and any bedding i buy, £22 night out money £6 day meal £9 night meal plus any parking i pay for sometimes that may include two MSA parking tickets a day and always with a meal voucher . that is how it should be everywhere.

Yep I did see it as well was post 1 by them

anyway back to the great parking debate.

i park wherever i want to, the company i work for normally run fridges. if i park at a MSA i pay the fee and claim it back, from petty cash as soon as i give them the receipt, yes i am out of pocket but at most only for 2 or three days, there is no limit on what we can spend on parking but nobody takes the ā– ā– ā– ā– .

if they didnt pay parking i wouldnt pay it either, park in a layby and if diesel gets nicked, it gets nicked. not my problem, its the companies problem.

this weekend for example i had to throw £20 worth of diesel in the tank as we only have shell cards and didnt notice i was getting a bit low as i went past warwick services, stopped at frankley services to get me to keele. i cant complain as it was my mistake but i dont mind doing this as i know i will get this back from them as soon as i nip in next week.

Good to see Flying Fenman back posting again. I don’t know about anyone else, but i have missed his diaries.
Regarding being reimbursed for any parking costs, (or any other out of pocket expenses) as long as I had some kind of receipt, all the companies I have worked for have paid the full amount with no questions asked. That is how I would expect any company I worked for to operate. In my opinion (and it is only that), if you are only getting a maximum of Ā£10 per night to park and you can only find somewhere which may be dodgy from a security point of view to park for that, then the company can only have themselves to blame if you have diesel pinched or curtains slashed. That’s not to say that it can’t happen anywhere nowadays, no matter how much you pay to park.

How the hell am I supposed to argu… I mean debate with you

You’re not, we’re all bored by your ā€˜know it all’ ways. :smiling_imp:

Just let some of the new ones to the board have a chance to put an opinion forward without trying to belittle them for once. :unamused:

No wonder they never bother coming back again :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

Pat

Not all of us Pat. I was enjoying a good opinionated debate by two fellow truckers.

Some companies pay up front, some dont and some just dont plain pay up at all, thats the way the transport industry works… unfortuently.

The firm I used to work for didn’t pay up until they had a receipt, and even then you wasn’t guarentee’d to get your money back, because you could almost bet your bottom dollar that someone in the TO would forget to check. Then that would leave you to chase them up for it so you would be out of pocket for atleast another week. The only thing my new boss wont pay for is maps, because the way he see’s it is if you leave you are going to be taking it with you…

… fair enough I say.

But it’s a far better debate now it’s between ā€˜a lot’ of fellow truckers

I agree, (or maybe not). Oh what the hell, lets put it up for debate. (only joking)

Coffeholic … you were spot on.
I don’t mind paying up front so long as I get it back at the end of the week.

I would not pay up front if I was paid monthly like my Brother is, too long.

And no way would I pay to park someone elses truck, the bosses can claim it back against there tax.

In my last job I had all parking costs paid (including this meal vouchers) AND I had 35 per night out…

But it wasn’t transport company, here is the hatch

(and basic hourly wage was crap).

our company pays 24.75 a night out also 3 pound meal allowance and pay all msa fees so we get a free meal at night too

I pay for the parking with the company credit card and as he says one tank full of fuel (1400lt)lost will be worth more than our three international truck pay in a year for parking.

Inselaffe:
Cost me 10 Euros to park up the other night.
After having a hot shower in an impeccably clean wash room, I repaired to the restaurant for a slap up feed and a couple of beers, served by a smiling local beauty.
I then presented my parking ticket and 10 Euros was deducted from my bill.
And not a diesel thieving ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– , curtain slasher or clamper in sight.
Just yer average German Autohof. Light years ahead of the UK.

Funny that, I did the same thing (Tho Sinsheim only gives you Ć¢ā€šĀ¬7.50 in vouchers on a Ć¢ā€šĀ¬10 parking ticket so I don’t park there much)
My boss don’t refund parking, because in Europe it’s usually refunded in food etc, and good food too. In the UK, it’s a layby or estate every time… unless I find a nice truckstop. Of course, the world’s end at Tilbury counts as a layby

Ah Worlds end what a cracking place to end the day, and its only a five minute walk from Maritime Tilbury, where the showers are spot on and its safe and free to park!

That only for your own wagons? Or can I get a letter from you to tell them to let me use the showers?

TBH Allikat you could probabbly sneak in and use the showers as there are about 4 companys that park in there, so no one would really know!
