hello all,i went for an interview yesterday to drive a class 2.the bloke has just rung and said the class 2 job has gone but do i want 6 drops around aberdeen in an l reg fl10 ! the bloke has a wholesale nursery concern.so does anyone know if they have a night heater and do you think like me it’s a long way in an old motor and i don’t know the bloke
ring and ask him if it as night heater . problem sorted. do they have to be a family friend before you work for them ? it’s a run you would of thought he had done before so why do you think the old truck wont make it this time ?
It all depends how much you want the work , I would not turn a job down just because there isn’t a night heater ,just take a couple of extra blankets if you night out . As for the truck , I would drive anything if the moneys good , lots are driving flash motors for peanuts .
You say it’s a long run but where are you running out of ? It would have had a night heater I’d of thought but it could of packed in but does that matter if it’s a one off ?
I’ve driven a few Wendy Houses back in the day and they all had night heaters fitted. Whether this one still works is another matter entirely.
i only thought about it after i had put the phone down.i know i could call but thought i would ask here ! at the interview his words were it only goes out on high day and holidays now he want’s it to go to scotland.
hi there bald bloke i would be going from southampton.the money is ok but i think it will be a one off although good experience as i have only driven a class 1 six or seven times.
Do it , it’s all experience and you never know it may be immaculate,
I had an E reg FL10 with no night heater, then my mate got an F reg with a night heater factory fitted
Our brand new L regs back in the day all came with factory fitted night heaters, so as long as it’s not knackered, should be ok
My old K reg brand new out the box when I had it had a night heater if I remember right also would blow cold in the summer on the blue setting
Yes, a 320hp night heater, you’ll be as warm as toast.

I had one of them, quite handy in summer.
all the l reg FL10’s we had at Swift in northampton had factory fitted night heaters . whether it would still be working after , what , 20 years is a moot point though . you could always go with the 10 litre heater option .
What the f@@& happened to when men drove lorries. Can’t need the work that much if a night heater is the first thing your worried about, and everyone wonders why the job is the way it is.
i was once requested by a driver , that he must be given a sleeper cab truck to do his run to Oxford area. the basis of this request was that any run of over an hour away from base must be done with a sleeper cabbed truck.
base was northampton and the run was daily to Abingdon, 1 big drop and few other one’s around ox post code and a single collection back to northampton. nearly had to go to hospital i laughed so much, needless to say
REQUEST DENIED
He isn’t the Wholesale nursery based just outside of Lymington is he? As for the age of the truck, I wouldn’t let that put you off, if its up together it will make it fine. That said, Aberdeen and back will involve more than 1 night out. If its the one I’m thinking of, his trucks go here there and everywhere so I would be surprised if the night heater didn’t work.
Its not even that cold at yhe moment. As for the age of the lorry whats that matter how often do you see a new lorry on the sife of the road with the cab over. Have a look at it if its lirealy falling apart might not be a good idea but they are a good old workhorse.
An owner driver runs for our firm is still running an m reg fl10 tipper which does the job and is rarely off the road.
Currently got a 1996 Scania tipping in Valencia, reloading in Madrid and unloading next week in Manchester. I don’t have any extra worries about sending that age truck than I do a new one.
Hiya,I drive an “R” reg FL10 and its got one fitted…in fact it packed up just after Xmas so a brand new one was put in,I don’t have nights out as she only does 250 kms a night but the main heater isn’t as good as it should be (to be fair she is a bit past her prime) so the night heater comes on when it gets a bit chilly.
Cheers Bubbs,
This may be the best opportunity you have just missed, the bloke probably sends the vehicle in to the main dealer for every fault, gets you a Turkey for Christmas and will pay for a hotel if you get stuck at a garden centre, hell he may even send his 19 year old daughter out to do the paperwork for you.
Some of this own account work is better than a 650 hoss leased truck that will go back as soon as Felixstowe is shut for more than four hours
