We do have uniforms in our company, I saw both older and younger (I mean, the ones who work there shorter than me) wearing our company polo shirts - but I donāt like polo shirts, I prefere T-shirts⦠So since nobody offered me an uniform, I never asked and problem is sorted.
Saying that, i take care to look smart and to be āin lineā with the company colour code or all in black when I go to new customers or to places that I know it matters⦠But to most of the customers in UK I know well, I donāt bother and just wear what I like. Same when traveling long distance - I wear whatever I wish on the way, but when close to the target, I try to look smart.
As for my previous experiences, when I worked for Reglit, they were giving us full uniforms. We were expected to wear them all the time, but we were issued only one polo shirts (and when I complained, I was given another one). As in that job lot of handball was involved and the trucks/vans were black, very hot in them in the summer, so you were getting sweaty very soon. Therefore I was always using polo shirt on my departure, and saving another one for my return and when away, I was wearing fresh one every day
I do not miss them polos, but I really like the trousers and polar they gave us. They are really good quality, very warm and indestructable⦠Sadly I got a small stain from silicone on my trousers, so I wear them only for some dirty work (like when I drive trucks, when I change the wheel or when I drive in winter conditions and expect that will have to get out of the van and dig or something), but I use my polar jacket a lot during the winterā¦
It is black, but it has a small logo of my previous employer on it - sometimes I wonder if itās OKā¦
Smiths are about to bring in compulsory hi viz uniforms and some drivers are up in arms. Canāt see the problem myself but one driver who likes to say āthe jobās effedā paused for thought when I offered to take his job instead.
Same people would also kick off when they have an accident and questions about hi viz clothing are asked.
Hi vis trousers, jacket/vest/polo shirt, boots, helmet and goggles supplied by Sir Boss. Coffee stained v-neck tshirts (for the ladies) and ray-bans come out of my wages. Itās always sunny at the topā¦
I think that a uniformed driver looks better than a non uniformed driver , dont see what the problem is .
