I accidently deleted a post made from a 2nd account of a member who is on premoderation, I apologise for my error.
To paraphrase his post he said No as he he felt we may sell his e-mail address.

If we wanted to sell your e-mail addresses we would have done by now. seeing as we have been here for around 10 years. But we find that selling of e-mail addresses as obnoxious as most of you so simply dont!

he also said he felt we would spam his e-mail box.

95% of members here when they signed up said they would accept e-mails from the administrators of theis site… that means we can if we desired send lots of mails out, but we dont seem to have done that, , because funnily enough we dont like spam either.

Lets be very clear here

WE could quite legaly send every registered member on here a newsletter once a week wether they wanted it or not, and give them the option to opt out.

We dont think thats the right way to do it, We think that it should be your decision alone wether to receive this newletter which is why we will be going for an OPT IN approach, If you dont yourself make the effort to sign up for it, you wont get it.

We MAY offer you the opportunity to recieve other e-mails from other parts of RBI or partner compnaies, but guess what … it will not be automatic YOU will have to OPT IN, if you dont want them you wont get them.

We MAY send a ONE OFF mail to all those who agreed to receive mails from us announcing the launch of the newletter and inviting people to sign up for it with a link.

I hope that answers the concerns the member has and again my apologies for accidently deleting his post…

I’ll sign for up for it

I recieved a question about this via PM, with the members consent I will reply in this thread so all can get a better idea of what is on offer.

  1. This is NOT a magazine in your inbox, so it wont fill up your inbox storage , it is a mail that will contain links to stories and articles on the web, that we feel are of interest… mainly RBI material but something from other websites that we feel will grab your ineterst could be included.

  2. yes there may be advertising within the newsletter - but if the advert doesnt strike a note with you, then dont click on it - there will be a clear differentation between editorial and advertisng - the bright flashing bit is probably an advert the words probably editorial

3)Tried it … not your thing, not giving what you want? well we hope you would talk to us to tell us how we can tailor it to be useful. but if not there will be a simple “unsubscribe” link.

  1. Your only doing this to make money … “DOH” we are a company, a business, that has employees to pay of course we see this as a business opportunity. What we are not doing is charging the end user ( you lot). there are many companies that sell specificaly to drivers and we will get them to cover the costs of producing this newsletter, and shock horror may even make a profit out of it. the same cash that has for the last 3 years provided a free bar at the TruckNet UK party, provided TruckNet UK members their own hospitality area at Truckfest, taken two members from here to the USA to experience truck driving USA and visit the Mid America Truck Show.

I would give it a go.

im a northerner so if its free i’ll have it!

ooh i think northerners get charged for it :exclamation: :exclamation: something about the north/south divide or other, sorry old bean.

Just do it Rikki.

Send the first one to everyone, and include an invite to “opt-in” . (not opt-out)

You will know by the number of ‘subscriptions’ as to whether it’s worth doing it!

You didn’t really need to ask us. The downside of asking is that many won’t quite understand,
that is now a proven point!

Regards.

No sorry cruise your mistaken, its only YOU we are going to make pay for it as you have too much money any way

No we are not going to make any one pay to read stories and articles :grimacing: there is a move on-line led by everyones favourite australian Mr Murdoch to create pay walls… you get so much free and pay for the rest, that is never going to work for forums and not something we will be doing

valid point, look at this thread as a bit of market research, to guage the reaction  We get a fair amount of criticism ( a little of which is valid  and not trolling  ) and we wanted to hear opinions and concerns and try to put the concerns to rest before we launched this project

Bear in mind that this takes up time and expense, its not only you guys we have to convince, we have to convince those that want to advertise to drivers its also a viable product. If everyone said get stuffed we dont want it then its a none goer. we dont want to produce a product no-one wants ( thats just silly)

So the sensible solution seemed to be to ask?

Rikki, on the advertising, you’ll need to produce a draft to show the potential to clients. Spread will be difficult to gauge
judging by the responses so far.

Maybe produce a draft,(sans adverts) send that to all, and measure the spread?
