Doesn’t anyone do the ‘take card in in to be inspected by ■■■■, walk out, fuel up, pull forward, then fanny about buying coffee etc’ thing anymore?
I have no objection to waiting in a fuel queue, apart from when I unknowingly jumped it once in Bridgewater services.
I have no objection if said driver infront after paying needs to visit oblutions or the coffee machine, its all par for the course.
What really really gets my goat though is those that park at the pump to go in and buy a sandwhich or paper etc WITHOUT fueling up!! Thankfully now we have our own diesel pumps so I no longer need to use the forecourts.
Onthe same note though, it really annoys me when sitting in Cullopmton services no more than a few yards away from the toilet block, drivers feel the need to pee by their truck, and in some cases THEN walk to the bloody services!!
I like winding up the idiots who like to park a distance away from the pumps hedging their bets as to which one will be free first… I just drive round them and park behind a lorry on a pump and wait my turn.
I have taken over 30mis on a pump at Clacket Lane Services before now, was on my way to the le shuttle,Only done due to the M25 car park ,and need of fuel to ensure i didn’t run out before i got over the water,
I got on the pump, put some fuel in ,inside there was a que (car drivers)at the tills, must of taken around 15mins or more to actually pay for it,as i got into my cab ,another artic pulled up behind me, i asked if he was in any rush, which he wasn’t, probably as the traffic was still on a go slow so he had the same idea as me, So i had a bite to eat and waited out around another 15-20mins before i pulled away, in that time a couple of other trucks came and went,no one was ranting about not being able to get on the pump,
Other day, pulled up in queue at pump, engine off…
Waited a few mins, saw driver go in shop after fueling, came back to truck, climbed in truck, so I started my engine, 5 mins later I turned it off again as he was ‘finishing his break’
That wound me up to be honest, don’t think there’s any need for it, have your 15 mins before you go on the pump
isaac hunt:
I know a ‘ahem’ driver who confronted 2 ignorant drivers from the same firmwho were taking their breaks on the pumps. He was told to ‘clear’ off by the mouthiest one.
My mate applied his forehead to big mouths nose and dropped him like a bag of dung, the second driver,
by now in his locked cab was invited out for more of the same, but suddenly realised his break was indeed
over and he needed to be somewhere else rather quickly.
Sounds a bit like an “altercation” i had at Jabbeke a few years ago.

An HOUR deducted everyday??
I hate being deducted anything, it’s a compulsory stop, not like you’re anywhere near your car, can’t park in a town centre, can’t nip and do the shopping, collect prescriptions, get your hair cut (well, certain truck stops) etc… I think all HGV jobs should be paid straight through.
45 mins deductions is bad enough, but an hour

Judging by the responses in this topic…no!
Common courtesy has all but disappeared.
Squiddy:
Argghh I didnt break any tacho laws though, did I?Fueling up does not count as ‘other work’. Neither does paying for the fuel.
Dumb ■■■ !!!

I know. Make sure get my full 45 in, and add at least 15 min to time sheet at end of day
I feel the need to apologize for this thread. There were some quite angry replies. OP was true story, but all that followed was drunken drivel so genuinely sorry for that.
Obviously I know that filling up or shifting pallets counts as ‘other work’. I have done a few modules of the DCPC, but I was aware of this long before the CPC. Even cleaning the cab on break counts as ‘other work’. Perhaps even talking to the office on phone counts as other work. Sorry, but I got hammered when I posted the OP. Not an excuse, but a reason for my foolishness.
Either way, I tried to take a sly 15 min at pumps and broke down and it cost me 6 hours stuck in a service station so surely that is punishment enough?
There seems to be several objections to my OP
1 … Hogging the pumps. I said it before and I will say it again … if another drive pulled up behind me I would move out the way. I work nights so this has only happened once in the four times I have taken a break at the pumps.
2 … Legality … Can’t really defend this except to say that I have stopped driving for 15 minutes. ie I have relaxed my concentration of the road for 15 minutes at least. Filling up, paying and walking about the ‘shop’ leaves me more refreshed and alert than I would have been sitting in a lorry park for 15 mins counting down the seconds.
3 … Yea I’m a hypocrite cos I said ‘grass em up’ regarding bent drivers. But there is shaving 5 mins off a 15 minute break and then there is driving with two tacho cards, or with the fuse pulled or speeding past the children playing hopscotch in the playground. Lets get some perspective on this. I think you all over reacted. My comapny wont benefit from me taking a rare 15 min break at the pumps. I only do one drop. The best that could happen is that I get home 15 mins earlier if that. So as far as fair competition goes, it makes no difference. My company wont get any extra drops out of me or make any extra profit.
4 … I am hurt that someone compared me to a driver that poos in a bag and leaves it hanging from a branch of a tree. I have only ever defecated in a flushing toilet and have never urinated on my shoes. Please stay on topic.
Maybe you should teach Carryfast about graceful backdowns

I’m probably guilty of going about things in the wrong way on this forum in the past and getting a little carried away myself.
Pretty hard to put it right once it’s stored in cyberspace though.
Sorry about that folks. I did mean well
In this thread I was concerned that people may be using social networking and this forum to victimise the vulnerable and cause trouble. I live in hope that the majority of lorry drivers are more mature than that.
