Do you think you are good in lorries?

bobthedog:
Think the cab was initially Dennis’, not mercs…

Do you think that Mercedes is taking something from some locally known niche manufacturer? I would rather think that it’s the other way - as Sedons were build with iveco cabs, ERFs with MAN ones and last Fodens are almost identical with DAF CF…

  1. UAZ with some aftermarket grill? Or RAF (Riga Bus Works, Latvia)
  2. Roman / DAC
  3. TAZ 1500, facelifted Skoda 1203
  4. An early Jelcz
  5. I’d bet the chassis is from a Skoda 706!
  6. Roman/DAC
  7. a Soviet beast
  8. Daewoo FSO?
  9. Fiat Panda?

gogzy: Tatra 803 was a small off road car, haven’t made it beyond prototype stage. 813 was just 813, whether military or civilian, differences were minor, there was no on-road version. Military 8x8 were usually troop carriers, rocket launchers, bridge carriers etc, civilian 8x8 were ballast tractors, tippers, fire engines, heavy wreckers - and there were very few of them. 6x6 had two steered axles at the front a one axle at rear, usually civilian ballast tractor. 4x4 fifth wheel tractor was the most rare version, usually pulled tipper trailers and tower cranes for construction companies, few went to CSAD for international traffic. One 813 8x8 was on Dakar rallye, in 1988 I think.

  1. Zubr A80 (it’s from Jelcz works, isn’t it?)
  2. Tur (as I suspected Skoda/Liaz 706 chassis, product of cooperation between Liaz and Jelcz, several tipper prototypes built at Jelcz, boxvans at Liaz, not many pics around, where did you get this one from? I’d like to find out more…)

when I dig in my stuff a bit more I’ll identify the others as well, but now I’m off to takeaway chicken satay and tsingtao

And Orys is off to Croatia

saw this in Bulgaria (i think), no idea what it is…

think this was Romania, any idea anyone??

The blue Bulgarian one is an East German IFA.I want the other one to be a Saurer, but I’m probably well off the mark.

Sir, you’re right about IFA and nearly right about the other one. Given the location, Romania (or maybe former YU), it’s FAP (type 13?) which was Saurer built under licence at Priboj na Limu, YU, today Serbia.

  1. TAM 75, Made in YU
  2. IZh 2717, Made in RU by Izhmash (why the hell does it remind me of Moskvich Aleko…let me see… oh dear, it’s got its name on numberplate…)

Didn’t know about the Saurer/FAP arrangement. And as for Izhmash–I never even heard that name before :open_mouth: ,so I’m off to fill one of several gaps in my knowledge.Good info-Thank you

Izhmash was an armour & artillery factory, later making firearms and motorbikes “Cossack” and “Ural”, later Moskvich and Lada cars to satisfy the demand. Today (or few years back) it assembles Kia cars for Russian market.

First FAPs were indeed Saurers, agreement with MB came after that. Apparently they make NG-cabbed lorries even today: www.fap.co.rs with Euro 3 engines!

  1. looks like a Nysa van to me, but the front grill…
  2. could that be Autosan H6 bus converted into boxvan?
  1. Dutra DR50, I was wrong when I said “Soviet beast”, it’s actually “gay huszar” (Made in Hungary)
