normaly any doctor talk who any person must sleep about 8 hours every day.but we know who drivers sometime work 13-15 hours, travel from work and to work.as well some privat life-wife children.are you sleep 8 hours every day, including weekend???if not how many???and if you sleep 5-6 hours regulary, are you feel good■■?
Considering it’s around 1AM and I’m still wide-awake the answer is obviously no I don’t always sleep for 8 hours every night. I’ve briefly done jobs in the past on 3-4 hours sleep a night which was seriously not cool after a while. That’s ok for a short period but long term your body needs the necessary rest and recovery time. Always thought it would be easier to do tramping as opposed to long day shift work. There’s not much social life anyway and there’s a good chance you’ll be able to get more rest as your waking up on the job and can be down the road pretty sharpish each morning.
I must say, since I left the “Green Death” I’ve been sleeping in excess of 10 hours a day! I hated tramping nights in the summer! And I do sleep peacefully daytime in my own bed.
I’m on night work so the weekend messes up my sleeping pattern. By the end of the week I get about 6 hours. The first two days back after a weekend I’m lucky to get 4. This tuesday I only got 2 before starting work (then snatched another 2 in the cab later). I look wrecked and I’m ratty grumpy old git during the week.
When I’m on holiday I get between 8 and 10
Usually 6 or 7 good hours, 8 on days off, very occasionally 10.
Don’t sleep in truck ever usually, however as its been summer holidays my sleep has been broken a little by various annoyances and caught a little on the bunk occasionally to get me by when needed.
I make sure that I at least get 6 or 7 hours sleep. I can’t do 30 minute naps so I need to make sure I’m sufficiently rested enough to see out my shift. I have, when I’ve needed done, gone on 2-3 hours sleep and I push through (that was a 15 hour day aswell, fun day) but I’m not a nice person when tired so it’s not the best state of mind to be in.
8 hours pretty much every night while out working for the week.
Working nights I find I come alive around 8pm so generally get less at weekends when adjusting back onto days with the family.
I’m now home for the next 16 days so will just have adjusted my sleep pattern to days in time to go back to work on nights.
Cheers
Neilf
6 ish hours per night, sometimes less, but I grab 30 mins or so through the day too, I find that’s better than trying to go bed early for me.
I don’t even sleep 8hrs on my days off, 6-7hrs usually.
I go through stages, 1st day of being tired, I’m the most placid person you’ll ever meet, 2nd day of being tired and I’m a snappy and grumpy git who is best to be avoided at all costs, so I try to never get into that 2nd day of being tired - tired = 4hrs of sleep usually.
Lucky if I get 5 per day, after a while you get used to it.
I’m a bit of a night owl but start work early. Tend to get about 5 hours a night but another couple of hours through the day.
Not the norm but I enem do this when I’m on holiday.
I used to get on average 8-9 a night, but my son was born last Sunday and I haven’t had more that 2 hours in a row and more than 5 in total, just hoping I can get more than that before I go back to work, I said to the wife this morning that I couldn’t even think about getting in a truck like this.
4 to 6 during the week, 8 to 10 at weekend and an afternoon knap when possible.
Have noticed that if short on sleep there is more shouting at fellow road users.
5-6 hours usually during the week, and on a weekend, no more than usually 7.
If I sleep less during the week, then a 30 minute power nap while on break usually does it, but if I sleep more on a weekend, then I usually end up with a headache.
Ken.
Nights tramping I aim for 7 hours which is ok in the winter but in the summer it has been as little as 2 hours. I’m ok for a couple of months usually but find that I kind of burn out around then.

Thats exactly what i get, seems to have worked for the last 20 odd years ok
Work nights, you don’t have to get up on an alarm and you can sleep until your body is ready to wake up rather than when the clock says you have t.
I’m really grumpy & highly irritable when I haven’t had @ least 8hrs sleep, usually manage an hour on the bunk if I can with no disturbances & that does me good til end of shift. I like having weekends off to catch up on any sleep I owe…

When I was on trunking nights I got the most sleep ive ever had unless there was stuff to do in the day, most of the time between 8 and 10 hours a day.
Now I try to make sure I have a minimum of 6 hours sleep otherwise I struggle during the day, my start times vary in the mornings depending on where I’m going so it varys but I hardly ever get 8 hours sleep.
I’m on permanent nightshift and I find I can get by on about 4-5 hours sleep plus a half hour helps during break time but I dont feel as good as I should. sleep the clock round at the weekend, and just been diagnosed with diabeties dont know which type yet but could be attributed to stress lack of sleep etc. so may be about to lose licencse.
No less the 5hours but if i have say 12-13+ hours off i’ll try and get 8hrs in.
