Do you check your start time on a daily basis

I was told I was down as a 10 a.m starter tues ( had to go in a hour early for meeting 9 a.m ) ,I get up today and shower ,breakfast and go to put phone on charge ,missed phone call from t.o ,4.59 a.m ,so I ring up to be told yes they had rang as I hadn’t turned up for my 4 a.m start time  ,but I was 10 a.m yesterday so I assumed as usual that it would be 10 am all week :exclamation: :exclamation: ,no I think the t.o bod didn’t check properly and the start was 9 a.m start for a welfare meeting just for that day ,your on 4 a.m starts all week ,we’ve no work for you now so do you want today off as a holiday ,but you should always check your start times on a daily basis .
i was on 10 / 11 a.m starts for years ,did a week of 3/4 am starts for a week ,then told to turn up a hourly 9 a.m for a meeting for a 10 a.m start ( t.o bod did get that wrong though.
But I think it’s fair to say if your told 10 a.m start tues you’ll be on it or thereabouts for the rest of the week ,I don’t think you’d think it could ever change to 4 a.m ,so why would you ask

Needs of the business?

if there is a possibility your start time can change daily which it can and will in transport why wouldn’t you be checking on a daily basis?

christ, it takes 2 seconds to ask or find out for the next day :unamused:

So Dozy, does this beat your previous record of being 2.5 hours late for work?

P.S. Sorry to hear you’re having another bad day mate, but the frequency is concerning! Not saying it’s your fault though, as I don’t know if your planner just has it in for you…

Our start times change vary from 3am to 7am we get told the day before.

We have a 3 hr start window but generally whatever time you start on day one it will be similar for the week unless you’ve had an early finish then obviously you might have a slightly earlier start time the next day similarly if you have a late finish then a later start. I wouldn’t be happy moving my start time more than 3 hrs either way from what it was the previous day and it’s rare I’m ever put in that situation.

No need as I start at 8am every day.

There is difference between thinking you know, and knowing you know. Come on dozy mate, who seriously goes home not knowing their start time for the following shift■■?

Tee’s one up…

I’ve only every had 3 jobs with set shift times. One was cert (now culina) where the whole driving staff started at 6am, safeway, where my shift was fixed at 10pm, and tesco, where we had a 6hr windows on the contract, but then a +/- 1hr of your first shift for the week. Ie my windows was 2200 to 0400, but if I started at midnight, they couldn’t plan me outside of 2300 to 0100 all week. I preferred safeways system to be fair

If you’d started at 10am day before, depending on time you finished you might have been able to start at 4am anyway due to daily rest needed .

Though if you have luxury of being able to check runs for next day then start time check is only going to take a couple of secs more.

In this game don’t assume anything!

Me!

My next day runs aren’t sorted till well after I’ve left. My official start is 8am but if I’ve got an awkward place on my run who insists we deliver prior to 9.30 then my planner is supposed to text me so I know to start at 6am.

If I don’t get that text I go in at 8am, does cause fun but hey, I’ll get him trained yet.

I’m not getting up at 5am if I don’t get that text ’ just in case’ he forgets to send it.

I always ask if I’m going there and he says he’ll text if I am, he doesn’t so I get a lie in!

Much prefer a place where I know my run then can plan it more but just way our place works

Well maybe ,his words are I’ve been changed from 10/11 a.m starts to 3/4 a.m starts so I’m in pole position to go tramping when my truck arrives ( I think he means trampers start at that time ) ,I did 10/11 a.m starts for years so changed a week or so ago to new start time ,I was going to turn up at 4 a.m yesterday ,but t.o bod rang to say your on 10 a.m start but come in a hour early for meeting ,if he had said 10 just for today due to meeting then I would of turned up the next day at 4 a.m ,but he didn’t so I assumed I had been put back on my 10/11 a.m starts .

I started at 9 a.m the previous day as I had to come in early for a meeting ,at 9.50 a.m apx I was told to go home and get a appointment with doctor due to accidents I’d had at home ,they wanted it confirming I was safe to drive so I only did 9a.m - 9.50 a.m so was fine to start at 4 a.m today ,the confusion is the t.o bod who contacted me said start 10 am tues but come in early for meeting ,if he’d of said forbthe day I’d of known to continue on my previous start time ,but as he just said start 10 a.m I assumed it was for the week

On a Friday I receive a text with the following Monday’s start time. After that it’s up to me for the rest of the week.

If I asked what time do I start Monday or tomorrow or whatever I’d have got, “you’re tipping in such and such at 9am” It was up to me to then work out a) when I could legally start, and b) estimate how long it would take me to get there for that 9am tip and set out accordingly!

My place just give me the delivery or collection times for the load then I sort my start times out to get there on time or an hour early depending on job, rush hour avoidance, weight, how I feel, how ■■■■■■ i was the night before etc.

My place did once try and advise what tacho mode I use I.e. POA, till I informed them it was my card and I was qualified to use it which means POA doesnt excist in my book.

Out of curiosity dozy what was your start time on Monday or was it a rest period.

Unless your on a fixed start time contract always thought it was the drivers responsibility to know what time your on the next day, being professional and all that.
Our start times are from 00.45am to 9 am so unless you know how can you work out if you can start legally?.

I always assumed varied start times was part and parcel of lorry driving. I wake up to a text message telling me start time (usually 12 hours after I clocked off I the morning) and destination. If I don’t get a text, I’ll ring up and ask.

I think what there saying contradicts itself ,there saying my start time was changed to 4 a.m a week or so ago ,so I should of known to come in at 4 a.m as that is my new starting time ,the t.o bod who rang me got it wrong ,he was looking at the wrong time when he said your on a 10 a.m start ,but come in at 9 a.m for a welfare meeting ,you then assumed wrong that because he’d said 10 a.m tues you were on it for the rest of the week
If there saying my new starting time is 4 a.m ,so should of known to come in at 4 a.m ,then why would you check it .
He’s not doing his normal spitting feathers act ,do you want it as holiday ,see you 4 am ,all very amicable ,or is he planning a ambush ,disciplinary with more marks on the file ,we she’ll see

When does the book come out and will you be doing signing sessions in well known book stores.
