When doing the daily check after a night out,do you see if some low life has not pulled the pin, then they are hiding in the bushes to see your trailer fall flat on the floor.
School kids may do it on the cross channel ferries, just for a laugh.
I go the one Way around away from Lorry and the other half when i come Back. So,the Pin is seen when i came back.
I’ve gotten into the habit of stooping down as I walk past to check that the dog-clip is still there and everything looks as it should, I’ll often do this even if the vehicle hasn’t been out of sight.
If I’ve been away from the vehicle I’ll also often have a quick walk round and check that the seal on the trailer doors is still in place, indicators and lights are still working if it’s dark and generally that everything obvious looks as it should.

I have never known this to happen to anybody.
Pavaroti. You are from Glasgow. You must know what school kids are capable of doing. Have you ever seen what they can do to a truck thats sat at the traffic lights on London Rd at Parkhaed■■?

No im not.I just live here a while and subject to morgage approval hopefully moving to a posh town called Coatbridge in a few weeks.
tbh i’ve found Glasgow rather tame compared to some of the multiculti hellholes down south.
Haven’t had one fitted with a dog clip for years, just a pain inmho, all the units I’ve had since the 90’s have the drop down locking bar, continental type, handle lock. That’s enough to keep VOSA happy & they don’t jump out unaided.
In saying that however, I always cast an eye over it every time I climb back into the wagon after I’ve been away from it,same as tyres & wheelnuts, quick lap of the motor takes less than a minute.

I stand corrected. Must admit that i’ve never had any bother in Glasgow before. Half the folk are too wasted to know what day of the week it is to cause you any bother.
Only trouble had from kids was in sighthill edinburgh my back doors got opened at lights, got a brick slung at me in shettleston which cracked my deflector and one kid pushed another kid in front of me in bailleston good job ive got the reflexes of cat or he’d be pan breed!
This breeze block through windows from bridges is old news this has happened twice at my company once at my depot and once down in Warrington didnt make the news though
The pin thing well i’ll be honest i dont check it if i leave it unattended, but maybe i should from now on it is my lively hood we are talking about.
We used to deliver to a small supermarket type place in Leeds, the bloke who lived next door to the shop wasn’t happy about our big horrible tools of the devil artics parking near his house, one time whilst the driver was in the shop collecting his paperwork,Mr angry neighbour undid the clip and pulled the kingpin…trailer ended up on its knees, could never prove it was Mr angry neighbour though.

At my place we are allowed a 50 minute break, the last five minutes are for a walk round check.
.
Allways do a walk round to, only takes a couple of mins, peace of mind and all that.
I recently had my first few shifts on C+E and the first time I coupled up a trailer I checked everything about 5 times and I’m not joking lol.
Even though I knew I’d done everything I was still obsessed with checking I’d done everything right.
I been doing this for 20 odd years, and i still walk around and check in my head to make sure I’ve done it all. If i’m swapping trailers then I check the number numerous times before I leave, paranoid maybe, but I aint took a wrong’un yet.
When I worked for Stobart In the early '90’s, It was quite common to come back to the truck to discover that the pin had been pulled. Especially In Rugby truckstop & Truckworld Thurrock…So I always checked It…
I check my pin every chance I get, having had a trailer slip off the fith wheel in temps way bellow freezing one night, luckily the trailer was full of bubblewrap and stayed on the chassis so I caught it and wound the legs down.
I check when hooking up, after I have stopped for some reason, even filing the tank because some pranksters feel it’s fun to pull the pin. If it’s dark I get torch and check the jaws are closed fast also.
