Folks…just to give a Warning…do NOT buy or use a Jimwey, so called ‘Truck Sat Nav’. Hopefully this will spread the word, as they are officially a pile [zb]…I was given a brand new and up to date one last year, but was doing regular London to Leicester Pallex runs, so didn’t need it. Having recently started doing regular, multi distance, multi route road work, I thought/ hoped that having set all the available parameters (it has all the necessary)…unfortunately the parameter settings are fictional, and don’t work, which I’ve had to find out the hard way several times. I’m pulling 16’2 double decker trailers, and the fekkin thing is continually trying to take me to, or takes me to, 150 year old 13’/14’ bridges…having found several Internet forum chats, reviews etc on the subject, it’s a common issue with their Truck units…I am jumping straight on here, having challenged them directly (takes ages!) and got a definitive response to my question/ complaint…they basically apologised for the ‘inconvenience’…and this is the best bit, they actually said, that if I wanted I could just use it as a car sat nav, and they would give me £20!..needless to say my response has demanded a full refund as a starter…so we shall see what they say, but whilst I wait, don’t be tempted…the old saying ‘you get what you pay for’ definitely is right with these cheap [zb] units…don’t be tempted, or even use if anyone buys you one…so I’m now going to go for a decent unit (big names/ players), what are you fine peeps using, and what are your ‘the good the bad and the ugly’ comments, reviews, observations (I’m probably going to go tom tom pro■■?)…anyway, beware and keep on truckin
Before getting another ■■■■ nav get your self a bridge height map ,a Morrison’s map and start screen shotting google earth of addresses your going too .

Cheers…will have a look at the Morrisons map. It only took a couple of ball ache turn arounds and attempts at taking me to others that I binned it and reverted to Google earth etc…just be good to have a nav you can actually rely on, and more importantly trust…Punchy, do you only do the map and earth then and avoid truck nav?
I’ve had a Tom Tom one car sat nav but it expired last yr ,when I look on the tracker the routes my driver follows with the lorry sat nav thing I have to wonder .
The bridge map is a must in my opinion lorry sat nav or not .

Ahh, Oky…Ive just tried searching for morrison map, but getting nothing but Morrisons stores etc…you wouldn’t have a link would you!?
Can’t go wrong with a Tomtom Pro, it just works as it should and as a plus the traffic is excellent, 6250 is the best but most expensive
Another vote for tomtom pro.
Been using one for 2 years and its been faultless.

If you go cheap you get cheap . What really do you expect fo £30 . Invest in your livelihood and get the correct kit for the job .
There is guy called Christian be does hgv sat navs. He is good i cant put the company lest i be in breach of forum rules. Or try Cmnav they do good deals any problems sorted straight away.
Site on ebay does refurbished TomTom 520s for 199 quid with full warranty. Lifetime maps, traffic and cameras.
Lads at our place swear by XGody for 60 quid.
I tried the Sygic app on my phone…but lane guidance is dire.
Take the right lane…take the right lane…turn left now when exiting the motorway ffs!

Normally it is the bridge height file missing in the Maps folder of the satnav software. If you are a confident pc user you probably can just copy the map files from a working satnav.

I think you can recommend a product or service by name, provided you aren’t connected to it yourself.
Hopefully a Mod will confirm or deny that, so you can say who is selling the good stuff.

Sounds like a result to me, get his 20 quid back, use his car sat nav, do as Dan says buy a bridge map and still have enough left for a coffee and a sandwich,
What’s not to like?
Or use Google maps, same thing.
I love a good laugh on a Sunday morning.
I know I keep going on about it (but love it if it winds you lot up
) but I read these sat nav threads, and I am never ceased to be amazed and amused at the same time. Stuff like …
‘’ On the 123xyz super de luxe model, the lane guidance is not very good’/ ‘How do I know speed limits’ /"keeps ‘SENDING’ me here’ (it doesn’t SEND you any ■■■■ where …
Ffs it’s a guide!!
)
And the answer… '‘Invest in your livliehood’? …Thick end of 3 to 4 hundred notes?
No thanks, I’ll continue to use a bit of ■■■■ initiative, and crack on with my car sat nav and my brain.
Nothing wrong with using available kit to your advantage, but to totally rely on it as a brain/initiative substitute is something else. …you don’t NEED to be told ‘‘Breathe in now’’ and ‘‘Wipe your arse now’’ …or do you?
Got to say if some of this stuff wasn’t so pathetic I’d be laughing my bits off sometimes.
Feel better now, hope I’ve ■■■■■■ you all off big time, and will continue to do so if this sat nav crap is posted, so don’t waste your time telling me to shut the ■■■■ up about it…as I ain’t gonna!
…so until the next sat nav thread, I’ll bid you good morning.
Looking forward to the justifications and the abuse. …bring it on .

Don’t forget to breathe Rob
I use an old navman car sat nav. And google maps And common sense.
Best way. Why spend £100s on something.
That your just go a blindly.follow
If.it says turn left your turn left etc. And you end up fully relying on it and become a zombie.
Where is using my car one. I don’t fully rely on it as it’s for a car at times it tries to send me through housing estates… which means keeps me alert always looking making my own sessions.
I just use it as a guide.mainly for last few miles of each trip.
As don’t do multi drop. so look at a road map figure out a route then use sat nav for.last few miles to get me to.the front door.
Years ago used to leave sat nav on but it did my head in. As say had 120 mile trip . I’d be for ever looking at it thinking God only done 20 miles still 100.to go.
Just looking at it seemed make trip take longer.
Now just leave it off and seem get there quicker. I know you don’t but yeah.
And my pet hate is people be it cars vans or trucks who insist on turning there sat nav Google maps.on when there going home. Or to work. I know a few people who do .and I ask why you been living or working there for years why do you need your maps on.

For traffic avoidance perhaps?
Some university did a study about reading fast, if you see the first letters of a word and the rest of it comes automatically. The thread title comes up as Jimmy Savile Con
I did 10 years on European with a Tom Tom One and never hit a bridge in my life. I used it in conjunction with keeping my eyes open!
