And my pet hate is people be it cars vans or trucks who insist on turning there sat nav Google maps.on when there going home. Or to work. I know a few people who do .and I ask why you been living or working there for years why do you need your maps on.
For traffic avoidance perhaps?
Exactly, mine is automatic using Waze or Inrix shows any hold ups, temporary or long delays
maybe im stuck in the past .
as i have traffic announcements on the radio. and also i do read the over head signs and if it says shut or delays . i can soon figure a way around it even if it means pulling over to consult a map etc.
and i dont always follow the alternate route that google maps suggest as my way of thinking is every one else will have the same idea.
about a year ago we had a new transport manager. he was an ex driver . not from place i work at .
he was great he used to ring you say m6 is shut or at at standstill where im heading etc give you notice . only person i know who has ever done that. although hes moved on gone back driving as he missed it

Some university did a study about reading fast, if you see the first letters of a word and the rest of it comes automatically. The thread title comes up as Jimmy Savile Con
I did 10 years on European with a Tom Tom One and never hit a bridge in my life. I used it in conjunction with keeping my eyes open!

Traffic reports on the radio are brilliant - at telling you what the situation was an hour or more ago. By the time they tell you about anything their usefulness has been relegated to informing you why you are currently sitting in a queue and roughly how much longer you can expect to be there.
There are websites that you can change the software on to make it more up to date.
Don’t rely on them when you buy them new, and don’t think the map updates that they point you towards are new either. They are usually 12 months out of date.
FWIW, the new 2020 Q2 euro update has just been released for Igo units, like the one Chris Salisbury sells, so you can probably turn your useless sat nav, into a half working one.

I did 15 years+…
With a Michelin road map of Europe, France and Spain. I did Morocco twice with just directions written down (damned if I was spending a fiver on a map I might only use once).
I use Waze which is free, for traffic and really good at avoiding jams as well as giving ETAs.
