Dilemna, Average camera

So today there was a broken down lorry, and I could see road works were ahead…

Anyway, the lorry was blocking the signs (for the speed limit)

Not long after I realised I had gone through the first camera of a average speed trap…

I dropped to 40 15 seconds after the camera and went through the rest of traps…

Am I going to get 3 points ?

(40 was the limit)

Don’t talk like a tawt. No

How long were the roadworks and what speed did you go through the first camera ?
But probably you’ll be ok just pay more attention next time.

went through 50 on first one and roadworks weren’t that long… 2 - 3 camera overall I think

Change lanes each camera only logs one lane.

Good game when your bored.

Sod em.

What was the speed limit, as on the 50 limit through roadworks the cameras are set to catch you over 57mph

You should be allright just let us know what happens.

The cameras calculate your average speed between each set.
So if the limit is 50 and you drive half way between the 2 at 55 then drop to 45 for the other half, your average will be 50.
Like already pointed out, they have an allowance of a few mph anyway.

Its a myth that changing lanes avoids detection.

are you sure about that…

If you had been driving a car then the posted replies would be criticisms of suddenly slowing down and doing 40 through a 50 limit.

Yes V.O.S.A will beat you to death and your immediate family will be sold into slavery.

Don’t be such a ■■■■.

It is now but it did actually used to be the case when they were first used.

Ok… 2 cameras on each stalk, 3 lanes to choose from… Hmmmm, I think someones been pulling your leg.

No, fact. Take it or leave it I don’t give a zb.

I was advised by a neighbour who’s firm supplies the kit, that the cameras do not check your speed, they check the time it took you to travel between the the cameras - from that it determines your speed - if it is over the limit (plus the “allowance”) then you get a fine.

I dont know anyone who has ever had a ticket from these cameras…!

The M1 J10-13 works were averaging 300 drivers a week getting tickets. Changing lanes to avoid them is a myth as all the cameras above each lane talk to each other and are all linked to one computer.

Correct, early SPECS cameras could be confused by changing lanes. Not now though - for quite some years.

Me, I got a ticket off Average speed cameras on the A616, after sitting behind a few trucks all the way along woodhead, got to the 2 lane stretch of the A616, booted it past them, got a ticket for an average of 78mph lol, wrote back explaining that I’d been behind the trucks for a long time, went to go past, noticed there’d be no safe place to filter inbetween them, so went past them all for safety reasons, got told not to do it again. Was probably clocking around 110, maybe a little more, when I passed the front truck

I’ll leave it thanks on the basis that you’re talking [zb].

It reminds of something I saw a police car do a few weeks ago though.

I was travelling along the A41 from Wednesbury towards the M5. There’s several rear facing Gatsos and a 40mph limit. A police car came flying past me doing what must have been at least 70mph. No blues and twos.

As he passed one of the cameras, he pulled off a strange manoeuvre; it was like a little wiggle from the inside lane into the outside lane and back into the inside lane; all in the split second as he passed the camera. He almost completely lost it, but the camera didn’t flash.

Of course there’s a chance the camera may not have been working and that he was just reaching into his bag of donuts, but it seemed to me like he was purposely trying to avoid activating the camera… and it worked!

I think I said they calculate your average speed between 2 sets, not that they check your speed as you pass each one… I didnt think it was that complicated
