I have used the lane changing thing for years, still do. Never had a ticket. EVER.

The cameras calculate your average speed between each set.
So if the limit is 50 and you drive half way between the 2 at 55 then drop to 45 for the other half, your average will be 50.
Like already pointed out, they have an allowance of a few mph anyway. Its a myth that changing lanes avoids detection.
I was advised by a neighbour who’s firm supplies the kit, that the cameras do not check your speed, they check the time it took you to travel between the the cameras - from that it determines your speed - if it is over the limit (plus the “allowance”) then you get a fine.
I dont know anyone who has ever had a ticket from these cameras…!
my boy has , and by pure luck he played the system ,lost licence had a deferred time for paying etc , had licence stolen with brake in to car (deferred again) sent in old found licence ( deferred again) got new replacement licence sent in … had a phonecall Mr N er as we have exceeded the permitted amount of time for your prosecution we cant prosecute you , [zb] result the jammy toad

Where did you here that tale in an RDC waiting room?
Some drivers obviously know some average speed cameras better trhan most of us.
I usually drop my speed to about 52 in a 50 zone, but am surprised at the number of trucks that go through at 56.And I don’t mean just the Paddy’s and foreigners.
Going back a few years,I remember when they were building the M6 toll road, there were average speed cameras around that area, and every so often a sign would be posted as to how many drivers had been caught speeding.I seem to remember that just before the road works finished,it stated that over 20,000 drivers had been booked!

The whole story is so make believe, I am sure they wouldn’t waste time to phone and tell him thay they have ran out of time to prosecute. As I said earlier another RDC driver tale…only this time it looks like it is you who has made it up.
If I understand the rules re time limits etc, the only time limit is for the summons to be issued.
Once the summons has been sent I didn’t think there was any further limit on time.
However, I admit that I am not up to speed on the law and am possibly (quite probably) wrong

I dunno but the guy said because they had broken the rules and deferred it to0 many times or what ever they couldn’t continue with it … as of today they have returned his licence (clean) and still haven’t taken the £60 fine .
The average speed cameras have never been “confused” by drivers changing lanes. However, they were not approved for use in multi-lane situations (e.g. where the vehicle passed the first set of cameras in Lane 1, and the second set in Lane 2), so if any such offences were detected they could not be prosecuted. AFAIK this has now been rectified and the cameras are approved for multi-lane use. But they are set with a fairly high threshold, so a truck on the limiter all the way through a 50mph limit is unlikely to get nicked.

So today there was a broken down lorry, and I could see road works were ahead…Anyway, the lorry was blocking the signs (for the speed limit)
Not long after I realised I had gone through the first camera of a average speed trap…
I dropped to 40 15 seconds after the camera and went through the rest of traps…
Am I going to get 3 points ?
(40 was the limit)
Is no-one pointing out the obvious, that there’s signs for speed on both sides of the road

Andy Peters?
My name’s Peter and I was quite andy as a youngster.
Saw a paddy get flashed by one today on the M6 at J8-9, also while the roadworks is on the M6 at the moment the roadworks signs say 50mph with a speed camera sign and I’m sure those yellow cameras on the verge are the speed camera’s, there is a yellow pole with 3 camera’s on.

My mistake i must be on about another form of camera, the ones I’m relating to are the new ones that have been and are being installed on the m6 from J7 onwards, they are mounted to the gantries that are across the lanes.
JG
just to show my ignorance, is your average time taken from camera to camera (as i have always assumed) or from the first camera to the last? if i’m right and its camera to camera they are spaced very closely and it would surely be difficult to cut your speed enough after speeding for 15 seconds or so enough to avoid a ticket

This is the section with the variable speed limit and hard shoulder running and I believe they are GATSOs so would flash. Further south are the roadworks and average speed cameras which, as said, don’t flash.
The cameras are arranged in pairs, and the average speed is calculated between the pair.
e.g. In a 5 mile stretch of roadworks you might have 6 camera sites (although at each camera site there would normally be one actual camera for each lane). Your average speed between Site 1 and Site 2 would be calculated, then again from Site 3 to Site 4, then again from Site 5 to Site 6. Although they could in theory calculate your average speed between Site 2 and Site 3 (and between Site 4 and 5 and even between 1 and 6), they are only approved to operate in fixed pairs (i.e. Site 1-2 is totally separate from Site 3, 4 etc).
