fair warning to keep a very close eye on the fuel invoices when they land…
Smartb diesel opo. Sam Flewitt rang on the morning of Monday 30th Jan with our price of 113.45ppl for the week, you can imagine how happy I was today opening the post to discover the swines have charged 114.25ppl there will be serious repercussions if this is repeated next week as this weeks promised price was 113.85ppl…take care chaps, sharks don’t have to be in tanks!
I had this a year or so back with Forecourt Fuels. On checking my invoices it turned out that for 3 or 4 weeks that had been consistently charging me the same amount (I think it was something around 1ppl) more than they had put in the email they sent me for that week.
To be fair to them though when I rang them up they very quickly admitted the mistake and credited my account with the amount owed and so far it hasn’t happened again.
good ‘mistake’ for them if they try it a hundred times and get away with it 75% not a bad earner is it…
I’ve emailed her guvnor’ and told him it stops now or noise will be created as far and wide as I can and I’m pretty good at noise!
I watch the pennies these days as my Ginsters habit is spiralling!!!

Without being too nosey, howmuch do you usually use in a week? I am using Smartdiesel (about 600 litres) and paying 121.6 for next week.
approx 800 litres most weeks, they are buggers for that, I have a pal in Bedale who rings me every week to compare and he gets stiffed every week, then phones back plays hell and gets a sudden drop… they’ve done this to a few lads I know over the year but I just refuse to use them despite the phone calls for a week or two and hey presto!!! cheaper than a Barnsley wench on Friday night!!!
Ring her on Monday and tell her she’s rumbled…113.89ppl next week…
Fuelcard Company tried Me on the “We’ve got to charge you now for a paper invoice” only wanted £3.85 per sheet, I told em to poke there cards where the suns not so warm, creeping mealy mouthed letter telling Me they’ll make an exception in my case & I can have a paper invoice for free, sons of dogs all of them are…
There are lots of ‘mistakes’ made on invoices but not often in your favour. Do these fuel card companies email you a price once a week for the coming week? a phone call wouldnt be much use to hold them too.

I generally get an e-mail and a text message, though I usually follow both up with a phonecall to tell them to get a grip and join the real world, more often than not resulting in another email with a much more realistic price.

You would think they would just add a set margin every week rather than play cat and mouse with existing customers.
I think they rely on people who just accept the price they are given without questioning it. As much as I like to rip into them, I doubt they make much off of our account as I usually play them off against each other and screw it down to the minimum (I’ve argued over 1/20th of a penny per litre on several occasions!).
Very often we actually get the fuel card prices down to less than bulk prices, which inevitably ends up being the week we hardly turn a wheel.
in my opinion nearly all fuel companys try it on on several occasions smart has text me one price and tried charging me another but i always check on a sat afternoon when i do my paperwork and phone them first thing monday to get a rebate which i always get then i will not use them for a mounth even if they are the cheapest on princple as for the same price for every one that is a load of bo##ocks i always get a cheaper price then my mates and after they find out what i am getting it for they phone smart and they end up with the same price as me . The one fuel card i am impressed with is fleetgreen in crew as 9 times out of ten they are the cheapest very pleasent on the phone and up till now have never tried to rip me off but this week i will be filling up using my credit card as i have a £10 voucher for tesco so the first fill up will be there then morrisons of ipswich as they are a penny cheaper then tesco and by doing this i will be getting club points on my tesco credit card and £5 voucher at morrisons after so many ltrs (i forget the amount)
Lets add another point, I make bio diesel for the firm I work for & in the really cold weather we add an ammount of mineral diesel to our tank to ‘winterise’ it.
So, I put an IBC into the back of our Sprinter and chuck 1,000l’s into it & what would you know, about 60-70l’s lower than the 1,000 mark!!! I’ve been to three different pumps in one station in Liverpool & two in another & guess what? Yes, all about the same!!! I could understand it if the difference between all the pumps varied, but it’s alwys 60-70l’s THEIR WAY!!!
0.7% might not sound much, but add this to their ‘pricing mistakes’ & what does it all add up to? We’re getting ripped off!!

I would have no problems reporting them to Trading Standards

You report them to “Weights & Measures”, the very same people who check quarry weighbridges and Pub pints/shorts

I’d bet a £10er that the ‘innacuracy allowance’ is exactly 0.7% which was actually my point, all the pumps I’ve used have been delivering about the same ammount SHORT!! none overdelivered, so always in their favour.
