I didnt pass my car test until the third go but nailed my class 1 first time. As it was my ole mans money paying for it, i was determined not to let him down!
Ditto. I also failed a 7.5 test in 1990 just a year before passing C+E first shot. After failing my second car test in 1988, I applied for my third test 6 weeks hence at another town, so I wouldn’t get the same examiner for the third time running - the notorious Tappendon no less, infamous throughout north kent for failing blokes on the slightest thing… I failed first test on not looking over shoulder whilst reversing, and the second test for not pulling back into the left after passing a row of parked cars. He’d already told me to take the next right, so I felt there was no need, and my instructor gave him a piece of his mind for being so petty, but the 2nd fail stood.
Still, got all the way home in the end, so I can’t really complain can I?
One of my car fails was some berk pulling out infront of me. There was loads of room but because i didnt show any reaction like ‘letting go of the go peddle’, he failed me.
Passed car and motorbike test first time back in the days before theory tests, faults and all that stuff.
Also all my big vehicles have been first time. Coach was passed with 6 minors after four days, “C” passed after three days with eight minors, “E” passed after two and a bit days with four minors.
But with my driving instructor just scraped a pass at the third and final attempt. Phew…
Cheers
Paul
I failed my first test in a car and the instructor said I told you so. I was too confident and didn’t really listen to him. I had been driving for 4 years before taking my test. I was 17 when I took my first test
By the time I took my second test I decided to listen.

BTW some how managed to pass my Class One first time in a Bedford TM Which included negotiating the Magic Roundabout

Passed Class 1 first time too but wouldn’t have had any cause for complaint had he failed me because I put in an awful drive and really didn’t deserve to pass, I think my examiner was concussed after his little accident and didn’t really know quite where he was.
Same story for me, was an awful drive, im convinced i talked my way into a pass whilst stuck in traffic.
Same… I approached a roundabout and it was clear, just as I went onto it a van came flying down onto the roundabout from my right, I was barely onto the roundabout but I was there 1st, he came flying upto the side of the truck and blasted his horn and flashed his lights, so I was convinced I’d failed. Ended up with 3 minors, all for that 1 incident.
passed car 1st attempt. examiner was a bloke called Rimmer, who had quite a bad reputation. but then again, don’t ALL driving examiners have a bad reputation when you’re 17?
failed C 1st time. screwed up the gearchange excercise. went up thru the gears ok, going back down i found crawl instead of 1st. got back to the test centre, and the first thing the examiner (who had been making me really nervous through the test by constantly picking up and putting down his clipboard) said was "you should have passed that. aaaaaaargh!
passed 2nd time with 2 minors. the last roundabout before the test centre was traffic light controlled. green for me, but i slowed down too much (apparently) as there was a minicab that looked light it wasn’t going to bother stopping.
Passed my farm tractor test 2nd time (examiner failed to turn up for the first one).
Passed my car test 1st attempt.
Passed HGV3 1st attempt.
Passed part 1 of motorbike test 1st go.
Passed part 2 of motorbike test 1st go. (Yes, for a while it was 2 separate driving tests).
Passed HGV1 test 2nd go.
(1st go was with a company called Amraf based near Chelmsford, who’s proprietor is fairly well know on here.
2nd go was with a local company and my test was from Perth).
Failed rigid test 1st time due to someone walking out infront of me at a traffic light controlled zebra crossing.
Passed artic test 1st time with 1 or 2 minors. On a pretty tight junction ended up putting the trailer wheels slightly on the kerb so I thought I failed. I asked her about it after and told me I got no mark for it as I saw it was going to happen, slowed down and continued in a controlled manor.
She only knew that I spotted it was goin to happen because once I saw the line the trailer was goin I blurted out “AH FFS!” Might have frightened her for a second but it hepled me pass anyway!
Class one, first time, got a little brown book with that.
AIM Advanced Class One, first time.
Canadian Highway Code Theory, failed the first one after no revision, because I’m too cocky sometimes
Canadian Air Brake Theory, first time.
Canadian Class One, Pre Trip, Air Brakes and Driving, first time.
I had been driving artics for 3 or 4 years before taking my Class One, so had to pass and the same with my Canadian Class One, with 20 odd years under my belt, I had to do it first time or I would’ve looked a bit silly
