No - I needed two attempts at Cat C.
I geared down to third and, believe it or not, I hit first.
If you can imagine a cat being suspended in the air by a
seat belt (with all fours fully outstretched) that’s how the
Examiner finished up as the motor went with a right bang.
He was notorious for failing drivers anyway and, needless
to say, he failed me too.
I re-tested at another test centre (in case they remembered me)
and, Jesus Christ, the very same Examiner took me again.
He mentioned nothing about my previous and he passed me.
My 7.5 Tonne licence had come automatically with my Horse + Cart
licence and I did pass C+E first time in Waggon + Drag. When it came
to reversing with a standard rig I WAS THE WORST TRUCK DRIVER IN THE WORLD EVER TO FIND REVERSE GEAR. Then an old boy gave me a
reversing tip and reversing just became second nature overnight.
Lucky to have done them all first time , motorbike test three days after 16th birthday, Car one week after 17th birthday, HGV1 2 weeks and three days after my 21st still have my original HGV book licence with the pass certificate and gawd knows how many renewal pages.
I passed both my car (Triumph Herald) and class 2 HGV (1968 Foden eight legger) at the first attempt but some of it was down to good luck on the day besides skill! During my car test I had to reverse around a corner just as a school was turning out, some of the kids climbed onto the car boot and started banging the roof so I just sat there for what felt like hours and then drove on as normal. The examiner never even passed comment on it, maybe it was an everyday occourance in Reading at that time ha ha.
Never took a class 1 test as we didn’t have anything that bent in the middle at that time!

I still have my book licence too
I thought you had to send your pass cert. off to get the full licence ?
BTW some how managed to pass my Class One first time in a Bedford TM Which included negotiating the Magic Roundabout
I didnt pass my car test until the third go but nailed my class 1 first time. As it was my ole mans money paying for it, i was determined not to let him down!
Passed my car test first time, my test fee was £3.40.
Passed Class 1 first time too but wouldn’t have had any cause for complaint had he failed me because I put in an awful drive and really didn’t deserve to pass, I think my examiner was concussed after his little accident and didn’t really know quite where he was.
Passed car test 2nd attempt failed first time because i went through too narrow a gap and should have waited l (didnt clip any mirrors but it was tight) i called it skill but the examiner obviously didnt!
Passed my Cat C first time with 4 minors after 4days training
C+E is on the cards this winter!!

Same story for me, was an awful drive, im convinced i talked my way into a pass whilst stuck in traffic.

You are right, I have just been up in the loft to find it and it is the provisional stuck in the front!
I passed in a Bedford too, but a TK with a two speed axle that i was told NOT to use on the test as the examiner would want to see it used , changed gear prior to a junction and knocked the button down on the pull/push control strapped to the gear lever, he looked at me and marked my card in more ways than one. I used the bloody thing from then on

Aye up! You got a nag or two judging by your avitar?
My mrs lives for em!
Who you drive for?
Passed my car test second time. I don’t think the examiner took kindly to my Mk1 Cortina with the snazzy paint job Took my second test in my dads Viva.
Passed Class 2 and Class 1 HGV first time but the hardest was the PSV All Types in a PD2, crash gearbox and all.

I never bothered with my motorbike test - we could ride up to 250cc forever on L-Plates.
In any event,I still rode a 350cc BSA and a single cylinder Vellocette MSS 500cc that went
like a rocket. We got stopped several times but the engine size was never questioned!
My two-wheeled adventures came to an end after my biking mate had an accident.
He was following a bus at 20 mph (ironically) when an 80 year old car driver, who was coming
the other way, turned right immediately after the bus passed and straight into my mate.
He lost his right leg and it has put me off bikes ever since.
Car test on second go, class 1 first time and bike second time.
Got a class 1 drive through agency two days after test, was a shock to discover no rear window in cab .
Have to say that the test was not at all related to real world driving.

Yep, that all sounds so familiar!!! We have 3 aswel, pluss some livery’s that are good friends rather than in a bussiness sense.
Mrs used to compete but she’s retired from it now, just goes out for a trundle round the block every day whilst I go to work
Good luck with ya C+E, Il keep my peepers open for ya.

Ditto. I also failed a 7.5 test in 1990 just a year before passing C+E first shot. After failing my second car test in 1988, I applied for my third test 6 weeks hence at another town, so I wouldn’t get the same examiner for the third time running - the notorious Tappendon no less, infamous throughout north kent for failing blokes on the slightest thing… I failed first test on not looking over shoulder whilst reversing, and the second test for not pulling back into the left after passing a row of parked cars. He’d already told me to take the next right, so I felt there was no need, and my instructor gave him a piece of his mind for being so petty, but the 2nd fail stood.
Still, got all the way home in the end, so I can’t really complain can I?
