I remember them Charlie, but what a name to live with …■■■■ Hampton…

I drove them old beauts Charlie and it was amazing how much weight they would take and never looked to much different on the springs as long as you kept your tyres up to pressure you knew more by how they pulled  though they were rated as a 25 ton payload it was not unusual to have mid 30s on them, was that on full air brakes or the three pumps and a prayer  I bet you put that on up the side and spun it as it saved a bit of graft taking the back wheels out.
cheers Johnnie

Hey Charlie if Johnnie and me were in the Workies club and the stripper didn’t “drop 'em” for a full shot and it was only “half” a shot like your photo of the Guy in Ballast we’d wreck the concert room(well Johnnie would) I’d have “done one” as he always shows me up after a few "scoops"can’t hold his beer you know!!! anyway where’s the rest of the shot? Dennis.

Excuse accepted Charlie!!!Nostalgic shots all the same, happy days, compared to to-day!!! Cheers Dennis.

Charlie… if you go to my thread, ‘coca-cola kenworth’ the guy driving the Kenworth worked for ■■■■ Hamptons in the late 60’s worked on scrappers on the Kenilworth bypass at the age of 17, then on Stokenchurch cutting, M11 and then went out to UAE, I think that was in the 80’s, I know he worked with a guy called “Popeye” if that rings any bells.

Hi Dieseldogrysix (Sorry to be so formal ) I worked for ■■■■ from the head office near Alton.Although I knew dozens of the
tractor drivers by sight,The only ones I knew well were the dragline and face shovel guys as when I used to move their machines,
they would often come with me in the cab. Also remember I am talking about nearly fifty years ago.The senility is kicking in! :frowning:
I,m just sorry that I don,t have many photos.Only memories of hard work but the shillings were good.Regards Charlie

Charlie,

Have you had a look at the classicmachinery.net site there is a thread about Hamptons and some pics of their Scanias etc.

Cheers
Mark

Hi Mark.I will have a look now.The Scannies came after my time on Hamptons, but I knew the drivers.
Thanks for the tip.Regards Charlie

Hope you are keeping well and your good lady is ok.
Kind regards
Richard

Hi Richard.Good to hear from you.Yes,I,m fine thanks and my wife is in remission.Getting better every day.
I was at Dicks when John .(Ginger) started.Kevin Rawlings phoned and asked if I could do an Italy fo him next
week.I told him to speak to Terry Sparrow. He is younger than me (72) so I said give him a go.Sorry to hijack
this thread but I don,t care.Best regards Charlie

Hello Charlie.

Two people I know used to work for ■■■■ hampton plant. One is Gordon Frost, he got me into plant operating back in the 70s & in my opinion is one of the best operators on a dozer you could find. The other is Chris Watts, he was on for them on the M5 job around Michaelwood services. Do you remember either of them. I still see Chris now & then but I haven’t seen Gordon for years. any more piccies you can find will be appreciated.

Hi BB.Gordon Frost Rings a bell, but as I said before I did not have a lot to do with the tractor drivers although we used to go up
and down the cut at times to pick up and unload. One of the best times in my life. All long gone, but great memories.Regards Charlie
