Diary, runcorn to slovakia

hi all,
thought i would put a quick diary together showing a trip i done a couple of weeks back. set off friday afternoon to hull P&O, a few beers then head down. saturday i made tracks from europoort through germany to the polish border at forst. heres where i weekended.

monday it was tme to crack on down svit, slovakia, driving down to kracow then south into slovakia where i tipped and met up with another one of our drivers who had weekended at svit.
the view from the factory.

once tipped we both made our way south to hungry going through some of the local villages

as well as up some hills too!

day after this picture was taken another one of our drivers got stuck on the snow coming this way and was rescued by a snow plough.

at rosnova i parted company with the other driver and stopped at the local bus depot for the night. showers and toilets were spotless and resurant looked good too, although closed! after a couple of hours had this liaz wagon and drag park up next to me, was impressed with the reversing skills of the driver!.

took a picture of the inside, suddenly that leyland freighter i had doesn’t seem so bad!

next morning it was down into hungry to wash out and reload for bravaria. hated the place i loaded it was like going back to 1970’s britain!, took 8 signitures off different people around the factory before i left after nearly 5 hours. managed to get west of budapest before calling it a night. below is a picture crossing the danube at budapest.

up and away next day and it was a case of getting through austria where the weather round vienna was a little bit snowy!

still managed to get outside the factory that night, ready for tipping in the morning.
once tipped it was up to luena near leipzig for a load to lindlar.
qiuck view of a wet bravarian town!

washing out a luena, i found the trucks sharing the wash with the railway!

the unimog pulling the tanks was operated by remote control by the bloke at the back of the train tank, very cool…lol.
then it was a case of tipping friday, washing out at our depot in frechen, reload belgium and make for the 21.00 hrs sailing europoort. got there at 20.30 to be told they stop letting vehicles on at 20.00, so spent the next 45 hours overdosing on dvd’s. sorry about the length hope you enjoyed it…pete

Thanks Pete a excellent read and fantastic pictures as well.
when is the next dairy going to be posted, asap please.hopefully,

Good pics there Pete, nice one! Bet youd rather have the Daf than the LIAZ eh?

cheers pete, hopefully will get over the water again soon, on uk work this week :frowning:
bug was thinking of taping the daf streering wheel up with blue insulation tape, and replacing the mattress with an old blanket to recreate the slovakian look!..

well done pete, makes my bradford, doncaster and halifax look crap… i know it is crap. :stuck_out_tongue:

thanks for that Pete…MORE DIARIES ARE MOST WELCOME

Pete it is a excellent post ,but not one that
has to be put in 3 areas , I first posted in the

This has really made my day!
My wife is from a village which is about as from Svit as “a stronger boy can pee”. I bet the two villages on your pics are Hranovnica and Vernar, 3/4 of inhabitants are gypsies. In summer, they stand along the road and sell blueberries and mushrooms. They are not ashamed to step into the road right in front of you - so you have to be rather careful not to run some over :-/
That hill, Vernar pass, is usually OK in winter, unlike Donovaly that gets closed for trucks everytime it snows.
Your “rosnova” is perhaps Roznava, pretty dull town.
My father was driving Liaz 100series + wagon. Those had flat roof and were double-manned for most longhaul journeys - so drivers had to like each other. The one in the pic is probably 300 series, 330hp engine, 14spd gearbox and “hi cab”

By any chance, that place in Hungary you loaded in, was it Borsodchem?

A21 around Vienna - I love the sceneries there.

hiya mate, yep roznava. thats the name of the place. 5 euros to park up there the night. the place were i loaded was called tiszaujvaros, southeast of miskolc. the road was the 67 from poprad to roznava. glad you enjoyed it…pete

Good one Pete, good to see someone’s still doing Europe!

TC

Hi Pete, excellent diary and pics, very interesting indeed.

BTW, I tried to look up the name of the town where you got your tankwash done…
is “luena” the name of the town, or the firm who did your washout?
