Anyone done any work for these know what there like to work for?
either day work or nights steady number bo mither
heard rumours they are knocking it on the head though
Thought all the drivers were finishing New Year’s Eve due to DHL don’t want the contract anymore. I was talking to a David Bratts driver before Christmas in chep Trafford park and he reckoned they were putting 30 more trucks on the road as they are taking over part if the contract
did a bit of work out of b/ham for them, and they folded that part of the contract in november and was split up between two other co’s. dont hold your breath for them to pull out of the other depots
Got an agency job there with them tomorrow, is it wagon an drags they use?!!

It would be fascinating to know where David Bratts would park another 30 vehicles!
I worked on the Chep contract for them about ten years ago & the job was quite decent from a driver’s point of view. Plusses were the decently skilled forklift drivers and the clean loads. Minusses were that sometimes there would be a two-or-three hour wait to load/offload and that the facilities for drivers were non-existant. Has anyone used the toilets at the Chep depot near Birmingham Airport?
And it helps to possess a strong throwing arm for those spansets, especially in a high wind!
they went onto all artics at b/ham so shouldn’t have any left as last ones were yreg.at b/ham you had to do a two day h&s (company ■■■■■■■■)training before let out by yourself
cheers

I used to see a few wagon and drags a while back going in and out of the area, but now I mostly see trailers now, however they may use both.

DHL finish at chep on the 31st but I don’t think the site is being took over
I meant they were taking on part of the contract not the site, but that was only driver talk so don’t take it as gospel
I’ve just Been there today and DHL where suppose to finish NYE but chep needed just the extra months work until the end of January, so DHL are staying there until then but about 10 drivers have already left so there covering it with agency until the end of the month, the lads there also said that they think Bratts will be taking the contract!
If anyone’s got parking for 30 vehicles around Trafford Park they could make money by ringing Bratt’s!
bratts drivers when i met them @ b/ham were trampers so only need to park up at weekend.but then dhl also used a few trucks doing nights at b/ham,m’chester and ponty so that will need to be covered as well
You can bet your life that Bratt’s will have done a bit of price-cutting to get the job. Mind you, they have been providing Chep with a decent service for years so that could have swayed it. It’ll be interesting to see how things pan out after six months or so.
Got rang today by the agency to work for Bratts and guess what for…to go into chep carrington in the morning haha
I’ve loaded Chep ■■■■ a time or two, big pallets are easy, them catering steel ones & euro pallets are a pita though.
Sad state of affairs when Bratty thinks He can make money at it & DHL can’t, & to top it off pay an agency through the nose for a jockey.
Mind Bratts are well known to be cheap as F & will travel for miles to get a load.
I’ve heard bratt pays class 1 rates of around 6.50 an hour, that’s a ■■■■■■■ liberty but if that’s true they probably are making more money than DHL !
Quite a few years ago I joined Bratt’s from another local firm for a 15% increase in pay.
When I was employed on a contract involving multi-drop steel deliveries, the boss asked me to stay in the yard after I had checked, secured & sheeted my own vehicle in order to train up an agency driver who had never carried steel before. I didn’t appreciate this too much after getting up at stupid o’clock in order to miss the rush hour traffic, but when I learned that the agency chap was being paid 50% more than I was I had a quiet word with the office about my pay rates after 40-odd years experience. Of course, I was able to point the lad in (approximately) the right direction and give him a few warnings but we never saw him again!
On another occasion I was told to take a “new starter” out for the day to show him the ropes. It was only when we had got about an hour into the journey that I found out that, not only had the chap no HGV licence, but he was only twenty years old. When I dug a bit deeper, he said that he thought he could drive any four-wheeler on an ordinary car licence. I never found out which pillock in the office neglected to check his credentials before taking him on.
Having said all that, I found the Bratt family to be really nice, genuine people and had many good times when I was there.

I’ve heard that too.
Went for a fulltime job there years ago, probably 4 years ago when they were still behid Volvo in Trafford Park and it was over 9 quid an hour then, and a payrise was pending.

It’s not true. HTH
It’s a ■■■■■ rate at Bratts, but not THAT ■■■■■
