Dennis

Sat at home watching telly and drinking cider whilst storm Dennis is raging outside. Sounds wild enough from here, glad I’m not out in it.

And to any of you lot who ARE working in it, stay safe people.

I came back up the M6 this morning, and it was a bit hairy to say the least, coming over Shap and Tebay…not a lot of weight on, or not as much as I would have liked anyway, but made a judgement and cracked on.
Contrary to popular opinion I was always told to just keep it going rather than take it slowly, and in those days I was pulling suoercube boxes with foam on, and it has always worked for me since…so far anyway…

Just sat back and rode it with Bon Jovi on at full pelt just below the pain barrier  and kept it going with a coffee (shock horror :open_mouth: ) on hand. :sunglasses:
Cars were overtaking us all in lane 3, with wipers on high for all the water being chucked up in the gale.
Got home safely to a hot meal and a hot wife early afternoon.

What a hero eh? :sunglasses:
 :unamused:

Nothing much more than a wet sneeze atm around here

same here.bitta wind,no panic.
until recently i always used to wonder why firemen always named their fire engines dennis.
after i saw a few named scania the penny dropped…

Nice one Robbie, beats a microwave meal down the Miles on a Saturday

PS you need to get that arse looked at if its the size of a funnel

I’d like to say I know what you mean, but I’m on rest days and not back on duty until Monday night. It’s nice and warm and dry in my living room.

All the better for nipping the seat in the strong winds.

 He’ll be on soon telling me how I’ve been doing it wrong all these years, and giving me the benefit of his ‘Years of experience’

Maybe I am wrong, and maybe I’ve just been lucky, but as I said it was an old guy who had been driving light loads on high trailers for years who told me that’s how he did it, foot hard down and ride it like a bucking bronco in a rodeo. …but when on the radio you are advised to take it slowly.
No doubt somebody will come on and give a mathematical formula on wind speeds and heights of trailer ratios proving me wrong, but it’s worked for me since,… even going over Thelwall on the night of that infamous 80s ‘Michael Fish storm’ pulling a single axle 40 foot super cube box trailer/monstrosity.

Neither right nor wrong. It’s however you the driver feels most comfortable, safe, and in control. If that’s fast, crack on. If that’s slow right down to 40, crack on.

Gusts of 51mph up here in Scotland. I refuse to drive if the winds quicker than i set my limiter to.

Joking. Ws getting blown about in my high top van. Fair play to the legends who continued to drive.

Shame on you the snowflakes who parked up because a bit of ■■■ seeped out.

Thats very good

I am always in a quandary when it comes to very high winds combined with going over bridges.
Get yer foot down and get over quickly or go slowly so if I do turn over it won’t hurt as much [emoji848]
