DePoel may have some say in it with companies/agencies they’re involved with, I’ve no idea.

Generally the company or agency that you work for sets the rates.

It is time but it will never happen there are to many drivers who think to be a driver you have to work 90 hours per week for £6.20 per hour.

Where every you go throughout the country the day rate is £9 ph time you take 30% off for NI & Tax £6 ph hardly worth getting out of bed for …

Exactly my point wish drivers would wake up and smell the coffee who else in there right mind would work for £6.20 weekends, nights, bank holidays for so low money.

That’s not correct, even in the area where I live the day rates can vary by as much as £2 per hour, and the rates I see posted by people around the country support the fact that what you’ve said is wrong.

Where you working??

De Poel came up in conversation at work the other day when we were asking for a pay rise. They do set the rates that your paid, they are just as bad as an agency as they take a slice of the hourly rate you earn for doing very little, you see no benefit of de Poel, all they have managed to do is keep drivers wages nailed down to the floor. The rate where I am working hasn’t changed for 9 years, O/T has been removed and replaced with a flat rate.

That’s what I’ve had to do mate, I’m looking to move back down south, passed 1st stage interview with tesco today. If I get it, it’ll mean upping sticks and dragging the family 200 miles down the road :imp:

De Poel are the reason I left the Agency game last year. I’d rather not work at all, than work for peanuts. I’m lucky though, with “other income”, but most folk aren’t.

Don’t DePoel charge you for processing payslips or per shift?

They’re umbrella pushers are they not? :unamused:

The way I understand it is, de Poel are just money collectors, the company pays them and they pay the agency, I’m not aware of them processing payslips or being involved with umbrella companies, but that wouldn’t surprise me

I did a bit of oogling and it appears they have a connection to a
company called paraplus, which ironically is also a treatment for headlice
in New Zealand.

 that would sound about right

Here is “what they do” the clue is in the title and it is not good for drivers

I’m not a lawyer but I can’t help thinking that De Poels business is rate fixing and very likely illegal.

“Them and Us” is a cartel then… :frowning:

Either that, or how they describe themselves is not true.

Since there isn’t actually any “negotiation” (ie no drivers are consulted as to “pay deals” - it’s take the low rate or leave it!) I’d have to assume that they offer a “service” to agencies only, to rip off drivers and squash wages, raise agency margins, and fiddle the taxman out of anything else that one might be able to fool the driver into aiding and abetting them with.

I don’t go there, and neither should anyone else. The only way to stop outfits like this ripping off both drivers and the wider taxpaying public is to shun them full stop.

I’d rather not work at all, than work and get ripped off left right and centre for it.

Do a 8 hour shift @ £6.25ph self-employed, and despite handing over loads of receipts, you’re still paying fuel and wasted time commuting and tax & NI deductions (compounded by full time hours) that mean that from a gross pay of as little as £43.75 per day, you’re keeping around £20 a day once you’ve paid for fuel, wasted time, tax, and insurances (two lots when self-employed remember!)

Oh, I’m forgetting. Some people don’t consider a “drivers wasted time” to have any value whatsoever - not even £6.25ph.

Let’s just not go there eh?

Well I think something should be done about it
