I think loads of drivers are not going to do it. That is the general feedback I get when popping into businesses. We had a massive discount on this month for a certain group of drivers and only 2 have taken us up on it. They know we are reputable as their employer has vetted and approved us, but they are still not coming on the courses. I know money is tight at xmas especially but I think it was worth sticking it on credit card (I realise some ppl do not have them, I don’t ) and paying it off after xmas.

Presumably their employer didn’t want to pay for it though ?
You think it was worth the drivers going into debt for, so how much was it after the discount ?
The ones that were in denial about it for the past 3 years are the ones that are going to have to go into debt because they’ll be paying top wack to do five year’s worth of training in six months.
The ones that planned ahead and did one day’s training a year won’t be going into debt.
In Ireland all drivers have been doing a day’s training a year…it’s compulsory…so they will all be fully-qualified come the deadline.
I suspect we might see a few over here, taking the jobs of those who said they weren’t going to do it.
Whether you agree with it or not, it’s going to happen. So you need to either get training or find another job/trade.
And,just in case you think you won’t get taken off the road, this was on the RHA website a couple of weeks ago
O-licence suspended after DCPC failure
Failure to meet a Driver CPC training commitment has led to a haulier having his licence suspended. The case shows the growing importance of DCPC in road haulage regulation.
John Thomas Foster, trading as JD Freight based in Washington, had his four-truck operating licence suspended from November 30 until it could demonstrate that all its drivers had completed seven hours’ DCPC training. The training must include driver walk-round checks.
In June, following various infringements, he had promised North East traffic commissioner Kevin Rooney that a DCPC training programme would be in place by the end of October. But no training had taken place.
I’m not sure how much dole you would qualify for if you are sacked from your job because you have neglected to obtain training in spite of having five years in which to do it…so if you are planning on doing that you might wish to check your position with the Job Centre first.
When I bring it up at work I’m told it’s all in hand, we will be looking into it next year. Given that they have not done anything about some of the younger lads that have only passed their tests in the last year Im not too hopeful.
As for me I have always said I won’t be taking part. I think it’s a total waste of time, not because I think I know it all, but , as I’ve said before. Any training without testing is useless. Apart from that I have decided that I am finished with the trucking game from Friday. Handing my notice in on Friday night, won’t be back in the new year. I am going to take a month off and then look for something else. Stay safe all and enjoy the holidays.
It is way less than £40 and drivers are going to get into a lot more debt if they wait until nearer the deadline or even worse if they don’t do it at all.

NTSA!!! ■■■■ off trainer bod no one gives a toss about giving YOU a living! Is that clear enough! Training my cheeks!
Oh yeah! I’ve done 14 hours! But I didn’t pay out of my bin. Thanks fast Eddie for paying my tax!
I say this everytime the subject raises its head, I know it will get forgotten but when the day comes the date will be put back or some other loophole allowing the many non compliant drivers a way forward, as has been said the Fatherland is proposing a delay already.

Unfortunately the Fatherland probably values its drivers more than the UK government do, so Mrs Bell etc will abide by the original dates and VOSA will be rubbing their hands with glee at the prospect of making money.

I think you’ll find that the Germans haven’t put back the date for periodic training to be completed, but it was always going to be 2016. The implementation of the DCPC or Code95 as it seems to be called in other parts of Europe, isn’t always standard. Individual Countries decided how they would implement it.
Other Countries have opted for far more training to gain the initial DCPC and Periodic training that does require taking tests to pass it. They also opted for full implementation by 2016 not 2014.
I wonder how many employers will be checking that the driver has a DQC from 09/09/2014 and then not allowing those who have not got a DQC to drive because the employer gets a large fine if they do allow a non DQC driver to drive !!

Employers SHOULD be checking now, as the DCPC is a legal requirement now (ie they should check that newly-qualified drivers do hold the DCPC and how many hours driver using grandfather rights will need tocomplete.
It’s ■■■■■■■■ but I will do the ADR course at an approved DCPC trainer. Already got 14 hours on there so the ADR will be perfect - meet the ■■■■■■■■ standard and gain extra quals at the same time…Hopefully all the drivers will quit who say they are going to (though I’m doubtful if they will when it comes around),and I can charge a fair bit more for doing the same job…
