Today I have been mostly enduring another DCPC session. The trainer told us that, when filling in our “bump cards” after a collision, we should record name, address etc of any witnesses. No problem with that. However, he went on to add that if anyone identifies themselves to you as a witness, they are legally obliged to give their name and address. I just bit my lip and let him carry on, as other participants had already wasted far too much time arguing the toss about using our own mobile phones to make a call after a collision etc, and I was losing the will to live…
Said it before and say it again, the quality and diversity of COC training amazes me
Oops I meant CPC
I went to a place in Taunton for 2 modules last week. I was impressed. The 3 that I took in Brum were pants!
Bloke that’s been taking us recently is the exception, knows his onions and the others have paled into the background in comparison, ex VOSA.
Actually learned and had confirmed some things, well worth listening to.

Care to share his name/company so others who live near you could actually benefit from their next block of 35 hours??
They seem to be a rare breed!

Were his initials GB ?
Stories like this confirm all that is wrong with the CPC programme. Three guys doing the same module with three different companies will get told three different things. No one is making sure the “instructors” are properly trained. Confirms its an ill thought out, unregulated money grabbing waste of time.
And I hear what your saying regards the debate about mobile phones. On all 5 of my modules almost every little thing had to be followed by guys quoting laws, regulations and all manner of crap and arguing and debating all sorts of legalities. Truck stop lawyers.
How to fill in a bump card has made into onto the dcpc syllabus? Here was me thinking “The theory and practical use of pallet trucks” was bad
Am sorry but I canna stand boring ■■■■■■■■, even complete thickos know this pish. I wanna know more about the ins and outs of the mechanics of trucks and all the technology that’s happening with them, so you can identify problems and are more capable of diagnosing faults. The ways to work out different axle weights based on manifest weights, clever formulas etc.
Just summit ■■■■■■■ helpful would be nice, I don’t want taught how to do my ■■■■■■■ day job that I do every bleedin day!
Ive just done the full 5 days and what to do after a accident was never mentioned.
To be honest I would have been surprised if it was, after all I dont need to be taught how to crash.

+1
An insecure load can get your license suspended. But lets not bother making sure every driver knows how to properly secure different types of load. Lets make them learn how to fill in a bump card or how to offer good customer service instead.
The guy I had for my last 2 was good new his stuff was an ex driver ( also done recovery ) learnt some stuff
but defo ill thought out should be more practical like how to strap a load how to rope & sheet although dying out a bit agree with how the mechanics of the lorry work how to identify faults easy ( emergency repairs on lines to get you home )
Last 7 hrs I did ( can’t remember what actually was supposed to be about ) … the “trainer” ( use that term loosely ) spent 3 hrs discussing how much alcohol you could consume on a Sun evening - depending what time you were starting work on Mon am … so that you would be below the drink drive limit
There is of course a very quick easy answer … don’t drink on Sun. evening
Luckily, I didn’t pay for this module ( employer did ) … if I had paid … think I would have been tempted to ask for my money back.
Got most of my DCPC for doing my ADR … got this to renew in 2016, so will do same again. At least this is something “useful”.

useful yes but when you think about it you are going to be paying for the dcpc bit simply to tick off some hours which is learning nothing extra on top of the ADR !!
You have to sit in the passenger seat when taking a break. Because if your in the drivers seat it should be on POA, or other work… I didn’t giggle much,
I heard a good one from a trainer a while back. On my first day out for a new job we went and delivered all the stuff and had a single pallet to collect to take back. Anyway I jump in the truck and raise the mid lift up before driving off. He informed me that I should put it back down as because the vehicle was taxed for 6 axles I must use all 6 when running around with any kind of load on, even 1 pallet
Not the first time i have heard that one terry.

Two points spring to mind;
Maybe choose better suited courses to attend, or ask your employer to do so if it’s they that make the decision, even go to a different provider if necessary.
Secondly, while you may well be on top of your game a quick read through these forums would suggest you’re in the minority.
Daily there are posts on these forums asking questions, or stating opinions that suggest many so called qualified professional drivers are anything but. Even the most basic knowledge can be lacking and unfortunately there will be drivers on the same course as yourself that definitely do need to be taught how to do their job day to day.
I don’t believe this a fault of the DCPC in theory, I personally believe it’s actually very necessary, but more the fault of the way it’s implemented and of employers choosing unsuitable trainers and courses.

All the time…
It’s attendance based only (I can turn up fall asleep, not even be able to speak the language its being taught in and pass), it’ll continue to be almost worthless.
I thought they had added the ‘show learning’ part to it all, every now and then you get a little 10 question test and they keep the answers to verify you have been learning.
