^^^^ this.

I’d have to contest a £300 fine!
I’m under the impression it all kicks off after September. I got a tug by VOSA couple of weeks ago, offered my card and chap says’Nah-I can see you’ve got one on the computer’

What is the issue here■■?

Just carry the DQC for pete’s sake (once issued & driving an in-scope vehicle-of course)…If nothing else surely it will be great practice for post-September 10th D-Day■■? Plus you don’t risk a £50.00 minimum fine.

It’s not difficult to carry a DQC fella’s - honestly!!!

^^^^^^THIS!!!^^^^^^ FFS, what is the point of arguing? Jist Dae it!

Three weeks ago one of our drivers was fined £300 for not having it on him in bristol

MMTM BS :sunglasses:

It tells you in the letter you get when the card arrives that you must carry it, doesn’t mention fines of any size. Must be a clever computer if it can tell you have a card, and that you’re carrying it without needing to see it.

But some of those cards are going to Newley qualified driver who would by law need to carry it, the card will come on the same letter as some one with aquired rights, who doesn’t need one till September 10th.

section 5

> You must carry your DQC while driving a large goods vehicle or passenger carrying vehicle.

If you have ‘acquired rights’

You won’t get a DQC if you have your Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) through ‘acquired rights’ until you’ve done 35 hours of periodic training.

Your driving licence is proof of your Driver CPC until you’ve done this.

You don’t need to keep your licence with you, but if asked by the police, you must show it at a later date as proof of your ‘acquired rights’.

Think you will find that’s wrong mate , he’s not employed as a driver but was asked to take a 7/12 toner into Bristol so he didn’t have his card on him as he don’t normally drive and it’s not bulls##### as I see the fine and the cheque that was sent to vosa by the company after an argument that they weren’t going to pay it at first

There must be more to this and possibly more offences for a £300 fine. The enforcement sanctions policy lists £50 for not carrying the DQC and PROSECUTION along with reported to the Traffic Commissioner for not having completed the CPC (when required).

A £300 offence is equivalent to something like exceeding driving time by over 2 hours or along those lines.

I cannot see a £300 fine being issued unless there were other offences or a trip to court. There again - failure to produce a print out when required and due to lack of paper is £100!!! :open_mouth:

And YES you do have to carry the card (if issued) when driving in scope and before the September deadline. The letter that comes with the card confirms this

Na they can issue a fine of UP TO £1000. for the offence of not carrying the card

> Driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence £1,000 fine / Discretionary disqualification 3 to 6 points

gov.uk/highway-code-penalties/penalty-table

Driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence refers to the driving licence and not a DQC

Although I’m yet to complete my dCPC (full course in two weeks to reach elite status) threads like this make me wonder if DQC cards are a lot bigger and heavier than other credit card in ones wallet.

Having just cleaned out my own wallet recently to make room for the elite DQC card (found loads of old cards, paperwork, receipts, and an out of date condom from 1989) so loads of room now, I’m worried if I will need a bigger wallet for this humungous dissproportionately sized card or a back pack and pallet truck to carry it.

I have also warned my postman that he may need a bigger sack come DQC delivery day. His response was to grab his genitalia with one hand and utter the words: “I got a big sack ere for ya”… I can’t help but think my postmans educational experience was a lot shorter than mine.

[edited to add a bit more whimsey]

Scenario:

Sometime between now and September, a lorry gets pulled by SADVD. Driver has held licence for over, say, 10 years, has done full DCPC “training”, DQC is at home in his sideboard, next to his licence and paper counterpart.

SADVD - “Got your licence and DQC drive?”
Driver - “No mate, they’re at home”
SADVD - “Oh dear. How long have you had LGV entitlement drive?”
Driver - “Passed my test in '92 mate.”
SADVD - “And have you any proof of that?”
Driver - “Err, no.”
SADVD - “Oh dear again. Well drive, as you can’t prove that you’re legally entitled to drive your lorry, you’ll have
to stay here until you get me some proof.”
Driver - “Can’t you check on your computer?”
SADVD - “If only, it went down just before I pulled you in.Not your lucky day is it? And to think, if you carried your photocard and DQC in your wallet, you’d be on your way now…”

Sounds unlikely doesn’t it? :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

Providing the DQC card is about the same size as my Nectar card (fingers crossed) I’m going to treat it in the same way.
i.e. when it arrives its straight in my wallet (hopefully it doesn’t need activating as I always forget to do that), might even let it have a compartment of its own to keep it away from other cards that may scratch it.

Like my Nectar card I will produce it when requested. Well apart from when I have a que behind me at a checkout and to save holding everbody up I deny the excistence of my Nectar card, much to my shame.

Maybe I will treat it as a reusable £50 note and when doing my usual wallet checks will make sure its in place ready for when the VD squad request proof I’m able to drive the vehicle competently that they have just pulled me over in.

No, I have completed the 35 hrs and have my card, I want to know how they have a right to fine a driver for not having it on him, when he isn’t required to have a card until September 10th.
Aquired rights ends on the 9th of September, until then the driving licence is used to prove you have them.
