DCPC Card, Carrying of!

So allegedly, that once you have received your dcpc card, you have to carry it with you to present if asked for it.
Now yesterday some one claimed that they got fined £50 for not carrying it, didn’t think he had to since it doesn’t start till September.
Our trainer told us that you have to carry it once you receive it, but speaking to mr VOSA about this today at Felixstowe, he said he had not heard of this, and doesn’t ask drivers he sees if they have them with them, and said why would they if it doesn’t start till September.
One thing I thought of while typing this, said driver may be newly qualified and would be required to carry it and would carry a fine if he wasn’t carrying it, but do drivers who have acquired rights till September have to?

Simple answer is NO…after September is a another issue.

If you have it flaunt it. Yes you have to carry it when driving a vehicle requiring the driver to hold a DCPC qualification.

I you have grandfathered rights, yuor license is your qualification, but in this case you won’t have to carry it. You won’t have a DCPC card until you have met the 35 hours recurrent training requirement, if you have completed those, you again need to carry your card.

So mr VOSA at Felixstowe is behind the times then, incidentally have you got this requirement in black and white mr wheelnut? The bit about carrying the card after completing 35 hrs training that is.

As a DQC holder I have no such problem, VOSA officers doff their caps to me as I drive perfectly past them.

The Driver Qualification Card (DQC)

Once you have completed your 35 hours of periodic training you will be issued with a Driver qualification card (DQC). It will be sent to the address on your driving licence. . You must carry your DQC while driving a large goods vehicle or passenger carrying vehicle.

You won’t get a DQC if you have your Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) through ‘acquired rights’ until you’ve done 35 hours of periodic training.

once you have it you need to carry it .much like your digi tacho ( if you don’t have one you cant carry it can you but as soon as you have one you must carry it even if you never ever drive another vehicle with a digi

So you get unfairly penalised for doing it, over some one who hasn’t? Can you post a link to we’re this is please?

If you have ‘acquired rights’

You won’t get a DQC if you have your Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) through ‘acquired rights’ until you’ve done 35 hours of periodic training.

Your driving licence is proof of your Driver CPC until you’ve done this.

You don’t need to keep your licence with you, but if asked by the police, you must show it at a later date as proof of your ‘acquired rights’.

Does seem strange that a VOSA official doesn’t know this, he says he wouldn’t need to see it until after September 9th

I didn’t show him my licence, I didn’t show him anything, he didn’t ask to see anything, I asked him the question after I went over his weigh bridge @ 45300kg

Expect he’s not interested to be honest all he’s fussed with is the task in hand.
you’ll find that with most enforcement body’s they’ll be on a 1 job mission .check weight sod off.
One thing you’ll learn though

NEVER OFFER ANYTHING

wait till they ask because the next time he might remember and think smart arse I’ll check it this time along with x y and z

The max fine is £50 FPN so where did 300 come from?

The max fine for not having completed the required training is UP TO £1000 so was he a driver who should have taken and passed the initial but had not done so?

What is the issue here■■?

Just carry the DQC for pete’s sake (once issued & driving an in-scope vehicle-of course)…If nothing else surely it will be great practice for post-September 10th D-Day■■? Plus you don’t risk a £50.00 minimum fine.

It’s not difficult to carry a DQC fella’s - honestly!!!

Think you will find that’s wrong mate , he’s not employed as a driver but was asked to take a 7/12 toner into Bristol so he didn’t have his card on him as he don’t normally drive and it’s not bulls##### as I see the fine and the cheque that was sent to vosa by the company after an argument that they weren’t going to pay it at first
