DCPC - Boring

Slackbladder:
Well I’ve just had some great news regarding the CPC. Talking to my supervisor today about the drivers CPC and he tells me we are exempt! Happy days for now.

You don’t need Driver CPC if the vehicle you drive is used to carry material or equipment you use for your job - but driving the vehicle can’t be the main part of your job

I think I’d rather just sit in a classroom for 7 hours a year than have to spend all day every day sucking other people’s ■■■■ out of a drain.

Each to their own though, I suppose.

Talking to my supervisor today about the drivers CPC and he tells me we are exempt! I reckoned we aren’t but he insists that, as we are classed as plant, we don’t need to do it. I’ve checked the government website and there is no mention of plant being exempt so I still think he’s wrong but I’m not going to labour the point. I think he is getting confused with the Tacho rules, the industry has a derogation, or exemption if you will and don’t use them. Happy days for now.

Well, as the driver you can be fined £1000 after 9th Sep 2014. As the operator he can be fined £1000 for “causing or permitting no CPC qualification”. So I hope he’s right.

When they first mentioned this dcpc nonsense years ago it was stated that on the effective date in 2014, drivers who were 2 or more years from retirement would not have to do the “training” and in effect be granted two more years of grand father rights till their 65th birthday. I’m presuming that this isn’t the case now as I’ve not seen that written for years. I ask out of interest as my dad turned 63 the other week.

No I haven’t seen that for ages but do remember seeing it too. I’m sure one of the ‘expert’/Rainman will be along shortly.

Well I’ve just had some great news regarding the CPC. After packing in my last job just before Xmas I’ve just started back with a drainage company. I now drive a vactor, it’s basically a large water tank with a pump, to flush sewer systems, and a suction device to ■■■■ out the debris. Class 2 work. Out and about yesterday I got talking to a driver from another company, he’s done all his DCPC and got the card, company paid so he wasn’t bothered. He told me he had a short interview with vosa last week who asked to see his card, he had checked his licence on computer and it comes up if you have finished it. He did have it on him and showed it. Vosa man reckons its a £200 fine if you have finished DCPC, have your card and don’t carry it while driving, despite it not being required until sept 2014. Never heard that before.

We got told at place I went to for ADR +DCPC,once you got it you gotta have it with you at all times at work

If you did 7 hours a year every year, would you automatically have a rolling 35 hour credit all the time once you put in the initial 5 year’s worth?

I’m not sure what modules are left to be done for the first time…

(1) Tightening one’s belt - Using that tricky second notch.
(2) Cleaning the toilets without nicking regular driver’s cleaning spray left in the overhead locker
(3) Packing tramping gear away into a cab so the next bod in there doesn’t fall arse over head trying to get into the driver’s seat for the first time.
(4) How to correctly sign off tacho infringement forms
(5) How to deliver an effective dialogue in an RDC waiting room
(6) How to maintain dignity in the workplace: Sucking in when told the firm is bent, but the law doesn’t care because the firm is God.
(7) MultiCultural Harmony: Getting on with everyone else in the office when you’re the only single white British male left.
(8) How to fill in paperwork properly - with black ink rather than a brown smear.
(9) Correctly egressing from a bunk

No it does not work that way

There are no set modules to do
