£80 Less like many Drivers they include n/out money in what they take home, in effect relying on n/o money to subsidies their poor rate of pay,if thats the case in your situation then day work at £80 less is a no brainer.
At this time of year yes as I hate sleeping in a hot sweat box
I will have the option of sleeping in the yard as I have an allocated truck
The last 3 months has made me evaluate my life

Among those trivial complaints are relevant ones about the ■■■■ mess that is left by some (not all) pig ■■■■ ignorant anti social night men in the space that you endeavour to keep spotless to enable you to live like a human being in your ‘tin box’.

So what’s your alternative methods dozy?
Aye good retort, and says the man who has spent most of his carreer being made a complete [zb] of by guys half his age in offices, and who’s idea of tramping is parking for 9 hours in a lay by with no food or drink…again and again, never learning, never progressing.
Dozy I’ve stuck up for you in the past, but I’m done with you mate, you do nothing for yourself to refute the common consensus that you.are the forum idiot.
Jog on.
Are you in a bad mood today Rob ? I thought Dozy’s post was a good bit of satirical banter, better than many of his posts.
When I read it, my first thought was " Rob will have a chuckle at this, or even just smile to himself "
I certainly didn’t expect you to " go off on one " and " cancel " the poor bloke !
Regards John.

Nah, good mood waiting for football to start.
His ind est/pub references are usually aimed at me as I tend to try and make the best out of a night out,.rather than sit in a [zb] lay by all night with mirrors pulled in eating crisps pot noodles and crap as he does.
I just get irritated rather than angry by the same old comments tbh,.and dozy doesn’t do himself any favours.
Maybe I did go a bit far on reflection.

I don’t dismiss tramping as I’ve done it for 6 years , but the last 3 months I’ve reevaluate my life and health and my mothers health as well And this fits in well as I can either go home at night or stay in the yard as I have an allocated truck , but also I will still do the odd night out when needed but not 4/5 nights out aweek
DCPCFML:
They’d been conditioned to think that tramping 80 hours a week is the norm or they live beyond their means up to their eyeballs in debt so have to work 2 weeks in 1 to pay for it all. Or both.
I’m no way in debt and my mortgage is only £700 and that’s shared with my brother
I got close to losing my house when I did parcels as an owner driver so will not work SE or LTD again
I don’t have the work if some thing breaks on the truck , how an I gonna pay for it ? That’s my bosses problem

I do know what a bar of soap is as I have 2 plastic bowls of different colours 1 for washing up 1 for strip washing if not at home , yard or truck stop
The truck belongs to the company who’s name imps on the side and if they need it to do a night trunk due to unforeseen circumstances on a Friday so be it ,
Yes I will moan a little , but most bosses will just say if you don’t like it there’s the door

Trampers are worse for it. Cab stinking of body odour from stale sweat and generally being unwashed. Only masked by the stench coming from the battery operated Air Wick velcroed above the passenger door with the spray timer set on the shortest setting in a futile attempt to mask their body stench. Mattress stinks to high heaven from sleeping on it all week without a wash, stray ■■■■■ around the edges and dark stains on the front edge where they’ve dragged their sweaty arse crack over it as they get in and out because they’re too fat.

Look, we’re all mates here, don’t be afraid to voice your inner fears. Did a tramper once humiliate you in some way? Do you deep down not trust your other half to leave them alone? I’m sure that your ■■■■■ is not that small that other drivers will laugh at you in the showers.
Honestly, if any of the above is what’s turning you into a quivering wreck it’s nothing we can’t overcome together. Stay strong brother, we genuinely care.
blue estate:
Over the last month I’ve taken a good hard look at what hours I’ve been working and the :5/6am starts and still going at 8/9pm aren’t good also not getting home most Fridays till 8/9pm and that’s on full tramping salaried doing work for 2excell
So I’ve knocked that on the head and restart back at my old job on Monday hourly paid guaranteed 48 hours and OT after but will be mostly days now not night not nights out like when I was there last , But works out only £80 less take home for a lot less hours
Am I mad to go back or very sane as I only need to do 6/7 hours OT to get same money and still be doing 20 hours less
I always think about a finish time in terms of comparing it to a 9am start. A fifteen hour shift is finishing at midnight, a fourteen is finishing at 11pm. I imagine what a typical office worker would feel like travelling home at midnight knowing that they were back in at 9am.
Another one might be a 12 hour shift, but having your start time pulled forward by a couple of hours. That compares to starting at 9am, finishing at 9pm, but being in at 7am in the morning.
So, then I ask myself, why is it okay to ask a driver to do this nonsense? I have never known the answer, but I suspect it is simply the fact that the people asking for this to be done don’t have to do it themselves and also because they don’t realise that just because it is easy to say, doesn’t mean it is easy to do. It literally is a case of people who have never driven for a living doling out the allocations without a care apart from what is legal.
There is also the issue of the 48 hour average. Companies will pay their drivers overtime to work stupid hours for weeks on end and then have to pay them to do nothing to bring their hours down. Saying this is grossly stupid would be an understatement.
At the place I am at at the moment (day work btw!!!), I am experimenting with what they will ask people to do. I didn’t really say anything last week and just did what was asked. I reduced 3 times and was close to 60, getting double-runned most days. Sure, I am relatively quids-in for the week, including the Saturday, but I didn’t want or need all the hours. Just goes to show that day work doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t still be going well into your fourteenth hour.
I just let the allocator know I’m not interested in big hours.
Works beautifully,as most drivers at my place…are up in arms,if they’re not getting 65 per week…with dark money on top.
I’m probably THE lowest earner,on the fleet,though.
Some drivers are taking home, more than I earn.
However…they’ll be going to bed soon

Jesus H
Why do you even consider taking a truck like that out of the yard.■■
I would flatly refuse, so I suppose that refutes your generalisation of trampers being dirty ■■■■ s,.and illustrates what some of us are prepared to and not prepared to put up with.
Before taking a day job dreaming of a better home life it’s worth considering the following red flags…
Is the office a ‘pointy shoe’ environment & are the planners under pressure to achieve a certain revenue on your vehicle? Even worse, might the planners and/or gaffers be earning bonuses for good performance in that regard?
Is it RDC work? Nowt like a 4pm booking slot when you have been on since 5am and being told there are no bays. Ring the office and nobodies interested.
Is it a hire & reward ‘blue chip’ logistics outfit? These are in fierce competition with each other are more likely to bend over to long delays at RDCs etc. worried about losing the work to a competitor. Will also take on last minute jobs that shaft the driver because the planner earns brownie points.
You have little control of the pace the work your doing can be done at.
The places you go to are open 24hrs.
Any combination of the above (in my experience) and you are in line for a regular shafting & having to warm your tea up in the microwave most nights. May as well stay tramping.
The day jobs you want are working for own account operations where the trucks don’t have to make money, or places where your working on one contract and run back to the depot after your delivery/collection. Lack of cab phones is always a good sign. Jobs in building/construction are good too because they don’t work late.
There’s proper tramping which isn’t so bad once you get your head around it, own vehicle not used at all unless you are on holiday, and some senible operators having seen the results of tommy half with the agency muppet damaging stuff now prefer to stand the motor or get more involved jobs such as paint etc done whilst the regular driver is off, several outfits that come into my place of work operate like this.
Proper trampers also tend to plan their routes and lives around good parking preferably where a pint or two and a decent dinner can be obtained instead of shutting yourself in the poxy lorry robot like presumably plugged in for a recharge, used to have a stroll in the glades or on the beach (no dogging experiences so far), i’ve had great nights out both on my own and in company.
For a long time now i’ve not done nights out, much of my last 8 years on the cars was a proper RDC operation home every night, and my present work does not involve nights away and i go to one or two of some 50 or so different destinations every day depending on one long or two short hops.
Both types of work have their merits, luckily i live a reasonable distance from work so my commute is short enough, 12 miles, i have an allocated vehicle and trailer which others use when i’m not on shift, but the company are dilligent as anyone can be about damage etc so can keep the vehicle in the condition i want it, suits me fine.
At delivery points due to the nature of the job tend to meet up with drivers from the same few companies, some of the curtainsider lads are trampers but get given a different wagon at the start of every week, now that i would hate and would not do it, but then i’m lucky enough to have the choice, by experience and geography, not everyone has that choice.
If tramping i’d still want to find my own little parking areas, ie lay bys on B and minor A roads near a country pub, some industrial areas in town were fine so long as there’s a Toby or summat nearby, i ain’t bloody self catering and that’s that, if i’m doing a grown mans job for a living i’m having an appropriate dinner and pint, if i can’t afford to do this i’m in the wrong bloody job.
I was making just as much as trampers on days. Its what floats your boat… if you want a quiet life away from mrs and kids go tramping. On days you obviously have your commuting costs and wondering if your truck is still gunna be in one piece after the nightman has had it

From what I have read on here before, there is always a man in bed with your wife [emoji23][emoji23]
The only down side this coming week is I’m driving a 16plt craptros all week as that truck’s driver is on holiday and the driver that’s leaving don’t leave till next Friday and ironically is the driver who I’ve always had issues with
Then should be in either 19 plt TGXXL 470 or I’m trying to wrangle my old truck back 18plt TGXXL 500

but in the past I have had some great times tramping Europe (unarguably a way of life Conor.)
You see that I get. I even get doing it in the UK for a year or so. But to do it year in year out in the UK? My lad’s a tramper, nearly 4 years in and all he does is moan about getting shafted on a Friday, wanting to be home more. Like most others the hourly rate he earns is crap too and he too comes out with the justification about “taking a decent wage home cos I can get the hours in and get four days night out money”.

So he moans about not being home and says he has to do the hours to get the money

Yeh,.I suppose it depends what type of work you do though eh?
I do farm and small engineering co deliveries, there are always new sites,.each with tgeir individual challenges of actually getting there in a big truck that ( maybe weirdly) appeals to me. :
You meet some nice people on that job,.and I have made at least 2 mates who I often meet for a drink whilst down there.
I know I sound a bit selective, but delivering to rdc s day in day out while tramping also would not appeal to me.
As for the ‘‘Good money’’ for working 70+ hours same rate right through, and the counting nights out as part of your wage,.I’m with you on that.
I live in the Valleys but work in Avonmouth.100 mile round trip daily the night M4 closure and stuck on the M4 during rush hour was a soul destroyer.I went tramping and my life is easy .
