Day running light failure

Had a warning come up on the dash / display gubbins today, drawing my attention to the above.
What do i do tomorrow on my pre flight checks?
Defect the lorry and refuse point blank to take it on the road.
Change the bulb myself but invalidate the warranty.
Wait until the day before its next 6 weeker and get it done then . . oh the drama.

Phone in sick.

pop up into the loft now, fetch down the most garish Christmas fairy lights you can find, the more camp they are the better especially if you’ve got a Volvo lorry, stick a handful of the horrid things over the lamp in question, hey presto it looks as good as its ever going to.

Too much drama to compute, can’t handle it

Turn the daytime running lights off and defect it, run on sidelights.

Whats the vehicle, are you the owner operator or is it a company unit…?

Yep, mine are off too, one good thing about the MAN’s, mind you they’re normal bulbs too not fairy lights so a breeze and pennies to change.

How do you do that then ?

Buy an orange highlighter and colour it in.

Also buy a black permanent marker incase you find a tyre that needs retreading.

Is there a dealer near by that you could fly into and fixed whilst you wait… give them a call if no one here knows how to turn them off…other than that turn ya head lights on and look like a newbie until its fixed… :grimacing:

I was told they’re ridiculously expensive. Probahly because we get them from main dealer.

Hmm you got me wondering now, i’ll have a poke nose if i remember when i’m on one of me many breaks and see exactly what reference number is on the bulb, be interesting to see just how much the dealer is loading the cost.

To be fair, apart from the rear side lights which blacken and would eventually blow if i didn’t get to em first mine has only blown one bulb in the two front clusters (got the extra under set of fog/spot/turn lights too) in the 2.5 years i’ve had it from new, best lorry for that i’ve ever had, DAF i had before would eat at least one headlight bulb a week, amazingly they all seemed to blow (but without a flash) when i switched them on in the morning to check 'em, but they never ever failed during the previous night’s run… :open_mouth:  :unamused: .

On the new Scania if the running light stops working you get a fault about vision system malfunction or something, and the headlights come on. It’s a visit to the dealers for a new unit to get it sorted!

My Actros eats them DRL bulbs for fun. I just ok the fault, run with my sidelights on to avoid unwanted attention and get it sorted when I get back to the yard at the end of the week.

I"ll try that then.
As an aside.
Are they a legal requirement?
I know that if a light is fitted,it must be working . . .

Can’t help with the legalities…sorry.

Are they a legal requirement?

No they are not.

No they are not.

Are you sure? I have no idea of the legalities btw, but I’m pretty certain that they have to by law be fitted to vehicles manufactured after a certain date, and knowing how zealous our lords and masters are I personally can’t see them passing up an opportunity to fine the masses for yet another reason.
