Davies Int. Southampton. With photos (Part 1)

Heres one of Smithy delivering a mobile home in Agen, that must have made him sweat breaking that supercube down, cheers Buzzer.

Heres one to blow your mind, its Smithys school report from 1951 and bears many a resemblance to my own but we still made it in life’s long road, cheers Buzzer.

Hi Rowland i always did like VTA even though it cost us a bit to do but then it did work all the time we had her even into europe so she paid her way and also i feel alot of people who do up an old truck go ott with the goodies and end up spoiling the overall finished look which is a shame and also they are only show pieces, cheers Buzzer.
PS.Here’s VTA before we had a chance to paint her and when she was still in two axle form.

I notice that Animal Smiths report said… " Lacks concentration "…
Was that a factor in the Roundabout Hotel turnover■■? Who of us haven’t had a report like that…
I have many memories of John… mostly vague now but Jeez, he was a character… Let’s start a thread for him…

First met him on Truckline… remember that eh? Come on Mappo … you must have a few tales…

JD: I had news today that Graham Lowe…( Cars of Swanwick ) died… Lived up from you in Bridge Road…lovely Bloke… Do you have any news■■?

Hi Balders apparently the Boss bumped into Mrs Harville today at Parkgate who was his naybor and also her husbands business partner and she said that Graham had taken his own life by locking himself in his car and setting light to it,and died from his injuries, very sad affair.
Lots of people knew Smithy and while most of the time he was good fun to be with if some one upset him it was look out, things could explode very quickly but i always liked the man and it is sad to see him like he is today with limited mobility but still very dry and humerous with it,as for his school report it really reminded me of my own and i suspect many others, cherio for now Buzzer

In answer to your question on how Smithy found his way,i remember when i first went dont be cocky and ask some one else for help and if you came over in this manor most other drivers would help you and thats how you learnt the ropes, but of course when i first went it was not as busy as today.
Re the pic of C 789 BPO outside Les Slaters old workshop in Northam, this was the very first new motor i bought from Princes commercials in Millbrook and it cost £33,456 or there abouts in 1986.It was painted by Mr Rolls him self at B.P.Rolls in andover and when i took the spare wheel up to get that painted i nearly had a heart attack as it was completely dismanteled for painting but what a good job, thats why he was more expensive than any one else around but the job he did was superb, cheerio for now Buzzer.

heres another shot from yonder years, this time the Royal Pier.

There can never be too many photos of these older blue on blue’s as far as I’m concerned. The detailing is superb.

Cheers

Yes Jeremy i had in fact just dropped mappo of they had already craned his truck on board earlier in the day and he was boarding as a foot passengerfor the night sailing, cheers Buzzer.

Buzzer i bought E901 HDF off Peter Gilder, lhd with an Esteppe roof.V8 142.

I would say that was INSIDE Dock Gate 4 near to where Huelin Renouf are, looking towards Cunard House Hotel at Terminus Terrace Station. That would be the “Boat Train” going down to the Cunard Quay.

Well Buzzer C789 BPO in all her glory, just perfect livery, very business like and no horrible modern day bling. Wouldn’t the board consider phasing it back in on todays fleet? Would go down a treat I reckon. By the way is she still about or scrapped after her Hot to trot days?
