Davies Int. Southampton. With photos (Part 1)

Buzzer:
Heres one of Smithys trusty volvo with a wrecker in the background and some noticeable damage to the 88 cab, maybe Smithy did not give me the full SP on this one, cheers Buzzer.

Hi Buzzer
I think may have been taken in Fareham when john turned it over by the Roundabout Hotel around 79ish. thank you for posting some of his photo’s there is a few faces and motors that brings back very good memories
Simmo

Any one who did Italy with a tilt or flatbed has probably been in a yard like this loading marble sheets usualy on one way flimsey racks which they tried to secure with a bit of wire rope twisted up with a stick, safer if you had some ratchet straps with you for the journey home,i have loaded a few times in Carara with an STS trailer. They cut these huge blocks into slabs with usually very old gear with water constantly run over the cutting blades to keep them cool old fashioned but does the job, cant be sure this is in Italy but someone will know, cheers Buzzer.

Smithy said this was taken in Porto after some some severe unusual prolonged rain storms and it flooded everywere which was very rare in Portugal not sure when this happened, cheers Buzzer.PS.at least it washed all the crap out of the corners.

Hi Simmo,

I would think you are right as thats Spartruks wrecker behind it.

Regards
Richard

According to Smithy this was on a sunday in Spain in the 80’s at first he thought it was just a small fire but the Spaniards were waving white flags and shouting alot and it turned out to be a tanker had caught fire so it was better to keep your distance.

Oh how hurtful you both are,If I remember correctly the money I gave over various bars (of which was never my fault), I think I payed for Sagres to build a new brewery, and don’t ever remember getting a discount for my trouble.
My oppo was either Mick Hennessy or Ian Penny (the 3 porkatiers)…And I resemble the fact that you said we were like Girt & Daisy… :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Ha! yes and probably we paid for the old Vegelana to be renovated as well.
'Twas Ian Penny, I was thinking of…what’s he up to now?
My abiding memory of Mick Hennessy … a few of us stuck in La Junquera for a few days with customs strike late 70’s/early 80’s?
a couple of Rawlings boys , myself Mick and a few others palled up for the duration, fun and frolics… After a particularly long lunch, Polly said the wrong thing to Mick ( I know not what ! ) and mick got him on the floor , sitting astride him threatening to change his face…Think they kissed and made up later…

Another one of Smithys F88 with a neat no frills 111 next door,no flags no dream catchers not Mapsonited ( sorry Tone ) and is that an Interoute F88 on the end next to the pigasso chicken shed you decide,it was always waiting in them days, cheers Buzzer.

I forgive ya Buzzer, nice period shot of the time.
Surely that,s not an Interoute motor, wrong colour…Unless it was a subby of course.

Cant make out the sign writing but it looks like it has that “v” formation that they used to use,and it looks like a kangaroo trailer and i think it is british reg to,Cheers Buzzzer.

By the colours of that 88, is it not PROMOTOR? But it is definately a Kangaroo behind it.

By the way, I like the weather we are having!

As it was hissing down today me and the Boss went to Peter Greens to buy a new bed and i took a copy of this picture of this old GUY vixen which was hanging on the wall in the bed department,it was the transport of the day for the matress manufacturers, cheers Buzzer.
NB.no reg plates perhaps it was new.

was this one of yours John?

I just could not remember hills that steep in Germany, cheers Buzzer.

Hello Colin. Lovely to see some ‘never seen before’ pics on here. That shot of Elky’s F16 and G87 XBK is just to the right of the ‘out gate’ of the original Lorraines when the road used to circle all the way round Eurohauls yard. I remember when I was a nipper having a Sunday outing in that F16 up to Barry dock in Wales to drop off a Rentco / CTR fridge near to where the bananas would load from. I can remember as well washing it off for Elky one very rainy Saturday afternoon in the newly acquired LS Commercials premises at Belgrave Road which I think would have been around 1991?

As Buzzer said, G86 / 87 / 88 all came new at the same time from Southway Scania who were by then, up at Segensworth East just across the road from where we are now. I went on a trip to Italy with Steve ‘Rocky’ Cherrett in her. Last pic of H66O CKM was Mr Clue’s pride and joy. ‘Welcome to the Pleasure Dome’ eh Pete? You must have been on holiday that week mush. Bye for now.
