Davies Int. Southampton. With photos (Part 1)

I remember Mike Saunders from when I used to bring groupage into STS in Belgrave road from Bristol on a Sat morning, Mike had prob come off the boat & there where others waiting for Horace to turn up, always late after a friday night session,
He ran the White House cafe on the old A30 just b4 Okehampton heading to Cornwall, did call in a few times, He didn’t do a bad brekkie
Jeremy

Well at last we have stirred a few of you into action,Mick Saunders did some jobs for me in the past,he used to live in hedge end when i first knew him and had a buxom mrs if my memory serves me right who in the end had a fling with Bingo RIP.Allegedly Saundies was hung like the perverbial donky as Derek Miller will testify as he caught a glimpse one morning in Liverpool when they had overnighted tipping a load of steel buildings. He later moved to Segensworth in a bungalow and now Balders has reminded me about him taking over the Whitehouse cafe which i frequented regularily in my first year of HGV driving out of Cornwall but that was fourty years ago.
Balders you were right to ask for fashion tips from Mappo as he is world renown on this subject especially sandles socks and shorts thats why he always puts SSS after his name when autographing.
Hers another pic of Smithy’s motor probably clearing customs Spain or Portugal, cheers Buzzer.

My story about Mick Saunders is when he lived in Hedge End I went round his house one morning for a cup of tea.In the front room was a stripped down motorbike. His other claim to fame was he went to school with Jim Rawlings.Regards Charlie

Hi Buzzer, I have asked on the Southampton thread before about Dave Chivers but with no feed back,
I doubled up with Dave on a job for Eruohaul if memory serves the other motor was one of Eruohauls 88’s
Went down to Cornwall to load 2 massive Uklids for Felixstowe, he was a real nice fella, I’m sure he came from the Swanick area or some where over that way but all a long time age now, but I’ve never seen him or seen anything on these threads about him, just vanished !!!

Regards Jimmer

Hi Jimski…I am a mate of Mark Chivers ( Dave’s Son )…His Dad has been living in France for the last 10 or 15 years. He is living in or near La Rochelle and deals in antiques. I last saw him about 5 years ago…

Hi Baldrick1953 thanks for that info, fraid I don’t know Mark his son but if you see him again sent my regards !! tell Mark to get him on here !!

Regards Jimski

What happened to your oppo on R and G? Stuart was it… I always remember you two on the CB. Like the two old dears on the Les Dawson show…

Great days indeed… Stay Lucky , will pm you in two ticks… Cheers , Balders.

Well I’ve got to say I’ve witnessed Shady the worse for drink, but spend money?.

Cheers
Neilf

Heres one of Smithys trusty volvo with a wrecker in the background and some noticeable damage to the 88 cab, maybe Smithy did not give me the full SP on this one, cheers Buzzer.

I recall Smithy telling me of a time he was run of the road into a ditch in France when he had is own motor, the pic does not look like France though :exclamation:

Another one of John Smiths ERF he says Porto 77ish you can see it backed up to a F type volvo stepframe, cheers Buzzer.

Heres on Smithy took of a scrapyard and says it was in Bilbao, cheers Buzzer.

Hi Buzzer
Pop a copy right on Johns pis or the vultures like NA3T will do it and make large profit out off them if anyone needs the money John does.
Cheers Rich

Hi Buzzer,
Never posted on here before so here goes. When he got back to Shedfield HQ this evening I showed Mick Leech the photo’s you have posted
from John Smith. The young apprentice driver in the Transcon is Mick’s stepson Darren, he had a quick look at the other pictures and is going
to try and put names to the faces, so will post what he comes up with.

Regards Mark

Cheers for that Meonbye,i bet them pics took Mick back down memory lane and it would be good if names are put to faces. The ones took in Grazzianos in Bergamo may not be local,i remember all that had loaded one day with washing machines helping sheet an R.K.Crisp motor from Birmingham and it was a step frame for a start he had four sheets all different sizes and all had holes in as they did machinery out but we made a half decent job of it with the aid of a few old sheets of cardboard, the thing that always made me chuckle was the cardboard thread they uased to put thru the eyes of the dollys to seal up the load, another Mary Hopkin moment but in those days everybody helped each other not so much today, cheers Buzzer.

Here is another shot encapsulating a campillo motor, not sure if they are still about anybody know ? cheeers Buzzer.
PS looks like a couple of peanut punchers in there as well.

Baldrick & Neilf;
Oh how hurtful you both are,If I remember correctly the money I gave over various bars (of which was never my fault), I think I payed for Sagres to build a new brewery, and don’t ever remember getting a discount for my trouble.
My oppo was either Mick Hennessy or Ian Penny (the 3 porkatiers)…And I resemble the fact that you said we were like Girt & Daisy… :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:
