Hi Buzzer been reading your posts John and saw the pic of the Chivers Trailer you mentioned Dave Chivers, would that be the same Dave Chivers with a Scania 111 on for Eurohaul ? Early 80’s ■■ His Scania 111 was in Eurohaul colours ■■
And the HQ where it all happens= Tracey Island !
Regards Jimski

Hi Jimmer i did not know if Dave Chivers wuz on for Eurohaul but i spose it was possible cos he would have got a bit for his company when he sold out so maybe he did, perhaps some one else will know.Heres another pic of one of Laners which was driven by Smithy with a Transport Services behind but cant make out the driver, but this was in Italy dont know where.
Hi Buzzer, I have asked on the Southampton thread before about Dave Chivers but with no feed back,
I doubled up with Dave on a job for Eruohaul if memory serves the other motor was one of Eruohauls 88’s
Went down to Cornwall to load 2 massive Uklids for Felixstowe, he was a real nice fella, I’m sure he came from the Swanick area or some where over that way but all a long time age now, but I’ve never seen him or seen anything on these threads about him, just vanished !!!
Regards Jimmer
This pic was taken in Grazzianos in Bergamo and i have personaly eaten many times in there and got a bit tipsey as well, was used alot by drivers loading in Philco for Skillbeech so ime sure a good few of you have also frequented this watering hole.John Smith in the middle but does any one know the other two in the frame, cheers Buzzer.
Very young looking John there Buzzer…don’t recognise the other two.
Good of Smithy to share his pics with us.
Nice to see that Incotrans tilt…my first ever trip to Spain was for them.

Thanksgiving Mappo your one of the first to respond to these archive pics, just wondering if you were in one of these on that first trip as they have your obligatry Spannish lights on just to let you know it was an artic heavy vehicle approaching or something like that and remember you sucking up to me to let you put them on one of my trucks,i dont know what got into me letting you do that, cheers Buzzer.
To be honest Buzzer I wouldn’t have minded having one of those, at least
they were sleeper cabs and mine wasn’t at the time.
If I remember correctly those Spanish lights…the square one indicated that it
was a goods vehicle and the triangular one that it was pulling a trailer.
I,m sure that even cars towing trailers needed the triangle.

Hi John,
Do you remember a guy called Mick who lived in Hunts Pond Lane known as Mickey Mouse ? He worked on several firms in the area, I think he ended up down in Devon running a transport cafe,he was mates with John Smith I think.
I thought Tone would want those Spanish lights he’s all Bull
Hope you and the Boss are well
Regards
Richard
Hi Richard i dont know the fella you mentioned but when i go back to see Smithy i’ll ask him,if the bloke lived in huntspond road he may have worked for Alan Watkins who used to do the sweetheart work and Richard Sharpe did fitting and servicing for Watkins so that may be the tie up.Your right about TIR Tone full of bull, when Les Slater took his motor for test he had to clear the screen of flags and other crap to avoid a failure notice and it also helped with forward vision. But on another note he kept a motor imaculate,so there you go Tone not all derogettry comments about you eh,cheers Buzzer
PS. Mappo heres one of Smithy on another familiar trailer which ime sure you would have pulled similar.

Hi Jimski…I am a mate of Mark Chivers ( Dave’s Son )…His Dad has been living in France for the last 10 or 15 years. He is living in or near La Rochelle and deals in antiques. I last saw him about 5 years ago…

Hi JD and Richard… The guy who lived in HP Road was Mick Saunders…He did a bit for Alan Watkins , had his own unit for a while but went ■■■■ up. He and I were both doing Freelance at the time and I did several trips to Portugal with him for Partrans in Southampton…He did buy a greasy spoon in Devon . That must have been in the early 80’s I think, after that though I have no idea! Cheers, Balders.
shady:
Baldrick(Stuart);
. On the phone with Mappo last night and you were mentioned,he wants to know why you don’t phone him no more. He’s doing nights now freelance of course.Any way hope your well…![]()

Hi there BV… All good here mate. The reason for no contact are 3fold…
I left my 'phone on top of car and drove off ( it’s an age thing )…so lost all my numbers. Then my lappy hard drive went and lost email addys… Also am a bit of a recluse these days, living in the hills and growing dreadlocks and marijuahna…
I dont have a mobile now but will pm you later and give you my home number to pass on…
While I’m on…do you remember " Snoopy " from Partrans… I last saw him when we worked for Calor Gas in the late 80’s…you ever see or hear of him…?
Also while I’m on. Hi TIR Tone. I’m thinking of buying some sandals for the Summer so I will be needing advice about what colour socks etc… Cheers Both…
Buzzer…if that,s an interoute tilt behind Johns 88, then yes I have pulled
their trailers when driving for Mick Hayes, but never a ’ kangaroo’ that I can remember.
Looking at the 88, that sun visor doesn,t look original to me.
It looks like it should be on an old Pegaso.
Baldrick…when wearing socks with sandals avoid wearing white ones. They just look silly.
. Oh and they must only be worn with denim shorts. ( it,s the law )
Ps…to avoid any possible confusion, the Mappo that Shady mentioned is my brother Keith.
Didn’t Mick Saunders work for Sea Route too?

Blimey how young does Smithy look Lovely bloke, great fun!!
Gazzer… yes, Mick did work for Sea Route…and quite a few others!
Tone. Thanks for the fashion tips ( and rules ).
Also , I am most impressed that you still know who your brother is, even in your advancing years…
