Hi Andrew just done another batch of pickled eggs but if you need to export for personel use you will have to tranship some to a smaller jar, cheers Buzzer.

The work on the tunnel started in 1957 Buzzer and was opened in 1965.
i wasn,t there for the grand opening though, that was the year i left school. :unamused:

Just googled it and apparently in 1946 the first 100 metres were drilled on the Italian side.

Mappo that was a load of crap them Iti’s was fibbin, the so called start of the blanc tunnel on there side was in fact a cave and that gave them the idea i thought everybody knew that, google must have asked the Iti’s thats why they got it wrong,in actuall fact they drilled the air vent first in the middle and dug backwards cos all there equipment only had reverse gear, cheers Buzzer.

Not truck related but from the eqine library a pic i took when on a drive in the New Forest early Jan,these horses were eating the weed that was below water level and havin a good munch, cheers Buzzer.

Evening all, Buzer, as mappo says, opened in 1965, by Guiseppie Saragat, Italian President, and Charles De Gaulle, France. Took a fair bit of traffic off the Cols, (thank goodness). I always disliked these" pipes ", and still do today. Cheerio for now.

Hi Saviem my first trip to Italy was over col de mont Cenis, this was because of a strike by customs which was not uncommon in them days and i hitched up with two O1ners from a company called Barry A Titteral ( anyone remember them ) they had 140 scanias and me a 110 so hard to keep up with them on the banks,i always remember when loaded at Albini and Pitigilani in Prato getting your papers at 10 at night then high tailing it to the cool air at the top of Cenis to avoid the mozzys before getting your head down, another Mary Hopkin moment.Besides that i cleaned out all my stables yeasterday as i deep litter them,i do this with the aid of a bobcat a very manouverable machine, still ■■■■■■■ down outside this morning so no carriage ride today can only get better, cheers for now,Buzzer.

Evening Buzzer, I had a Thomas skid steer loader for years, similar to a Bobcat. Boy driving any skid steer takes all the work out of lifting soiled beds! Then like everything along comes someone who wanted it, so I sold her, and do`nt you miss such a useful machine when its gone!

Cenis was a rough old road in the 60s,(still was in the 70s as well)! Used to creep down into Italy in bottom gear, dabbing the old brakes ever so gently! and coming the other way used to count the wheel nuts going round…

oh ever so slowly, thank you Mr Foden for such low gearing! Was`nt much better with a 12speed and 150 Gardner, …but unlike some I could easily find the lowest three gears!!

I really liked going via Petite Grand St Bernard, and coming back a beautiful view of Mont Blanc, always seemed easier on the engine!

Still raining here, ground is like soup, my lad only stays out for a few hours, then shouts to be put back in his stable…warm, comfy, and food on hand…Perhaps I should swop places with him!

The grass is actually growing!!! Seasonal change it must be.

Cheerio for now.

Well now then “Saviem”,I don’t imagine you’d take kindly to standing up to your fetlocks for hours on end in the Shropshire mire, don’t answer that! You probably have been doing just that going by the state of the land at the moment !! Cheers Dennis.

Yesterday I paid a visit to the Davies headquarters in Segensworth. What an eyeopener.
The place is pristine.I actually managed to make it from Alton in one hit.Not bad for an old pensioner eh?
I was so well looked after. My camper is so clean,it looks like new.Thank you so very much everyone. After
I was treated to coffee, and Buzzers famous bread pudding. The only downside was Horrie would not let me
drive round the block in one of his volvos. He said that he valued them too much.Anyway a great day out.
Now I am getting used to long journeys I am going to descend on the famous Pat Duffy.Regards Charlie

Charlie I would have thought that you should have come to me first as you will need to get your camper cleaned again after a visit to my yard Nursling! I don’t think you can call mine pristine!!

Charlie you are most welcome here and Thursday midday seems to be the regular meeting time Pat Scorey is usually here and a couple of others sometimes show up too.

However this Thursday I have a meeting to go to at 1.00pm with a customer so will not be here for long.

Regards Pat

Well Charlie i am glad your journey was a sucsessful one to our yard and you will be able to show off to your fellow camper van mates,Jim Ski calls our yard Tracy Island for some reason aint quite worked that out yet.Sorry about the bread pud this last one was a bit on the heavy side and i nearly had to call on Pats lowloader to get it to the yard, but it always seems to disapear.

Saviem you have now attracted comments from Dennis (Bewick) he is i must say a very active member on variouse threads on TNUK and i read with interest, its good to have opinions of likeminded persons that are or were involved in transport but nowadays is a different story,in a way ime glad ive handed on to my two sons to carry the buisness forward but still here day to day problems that occur. In my day if you fell out with a driver you would just say if you dont like it theres the door, but not today as you would be straight into a tribunal ( think thats why ime gone )anyway cheers for now Buzzer.

PS. Charlie if you do venture to Pats yard he is right ,wear a stout pair of boots ( and a life jacket ) only kidding Pat.

Heres a blast from the past, its a pic i found of Chivers International transport, now although it was a company was run from London its origens started much closer to Southampton.Dave Chivers lived in Bye Road in Swanwick and used to be involved in international boat and yacht transport back in the early seventies and infact parked opposite my old house on a piece of waste ground and also in coldpark lane in Swanwick,he was approached by some one from London as he had a healthy stock of permits at the time which were quite valuable ,the chap who started it was married to the late Anna Guest who ran an import company specialising in Italien fruit ( she was an Italien ) and her company was Italfrutta and her two sons ran another company called Arrigonfrutta and we worked for both companys who were superb payers and very prompt. Our drivers used to joke as sometimes we could have six deliveries on one load we called this E.F.M.I.T.S.O.E which roughly translates every effin market in the south of England.Any way our company still have dealings with Frank Guest but not on such a large scale as all those years ago.We used to load at Pirachini secondo for Frank and we used to call him Pirotechnic as he could fire up but never the less he was good as he chilled the fruit during the night and you got loaded early in the morning, this was good as you could be in France having your evening meal while alot were still waiting to get loaded in Italy in the evening, nice that we still have that connection after all these years have past reliability of service played a big part here, definitely a Mary Hopkin moment, cherio for now Buzzer
