Hi John
Do you know if the little D series was red inside & what the reg was as we have a D600 could it be the one?
Cheers Rich

Hi Mate i think it was red inside but it’s nearly 40 years ago but may have been grey,i have a photo of it head on taken at the same time but there is a heap of bales on the ground so obscuring the old number plate, cheers JD.

Buzzer:
Hi Jim i know by now you are back from the synagog so i borrowed this pic from AS Rawlings thread as this is a much better shot of Tony Winter on the right, hope this confirms for you who he was mate, cheers Buzzer.

Hi Buzzer yep certainly looks like the same fella ! Was on Malcome Millards (MGMGroup)as an owner driver he had a Marathon on bulk work, i remember him telling me about the time he tipped a load of metal fillings or swarf on a weighbridge up Pewsey way after someone there upset him !! Bit of a short fuse if I remember but nice fella !! Unless you own a weigh bridge ! Had a mate, his name was Dave Collis also from the Emsworth area, where ever Tony worked Dave wasnt far behind , I know I’ve asked before but anyone still in contact with either of em??

Regards Jimmer

Hi Buzzer,
nice pic of Andrews motor, its a shame that there only seems to be the Davies boys and Fraser Freight of Portsmouth still doing european work around the Southampton area, i remember LTS Freight, Jameson, Skullbeech, PJK European, Southern transport, what happened to all these!! ,

all the best Alan.

Hi Alan there are alot more gone than you listed, infact Horry my son and me had a count up and there are close to twenty firms no longer doin the job today that includes OD’s that had one or more trucks pulling for the main players on traction.Infact when i started i did traction for other companys but in 1988 decided the only ones making sensible returns were the ones with there own work so i made the change and hired trailers and got ferry accounts of my own and went my own way,at first we had half tilts and half frigo’s but always seemed to have the wrong trailer in the wrong place so addopted frigo only policy and went on to buy our own trailers. In our heyday we ran 33 artics but now the boys run 15 and sub any excess which is rare today. In hindsite i think this is why we are stil here now otherwise we would gone the way of all the others, its a hard environment today and alot of the work is done by foreign companys, any ways i hope we can keep on flyin the flag in a tough industry in the years ahead, cheers Buzzer.
