Rubbish Tony. You are not thick Well not much anyway.

Don’t forget our invitation to visit to see Balders. It’s free.

The Wellow Wonder has said that he will treat anyone who

is down on their luck. That’s me and you at the top of the list.

Regards Charlie

Wasn’t that the queue to get into France because of the French farmers playing up?

The only reason I thought that was because last week on my local TV it was reported the French were again protesting about cheap wine imports and were targeting Spanish tankers and letting their wine go. Never got reported in the UK.

Count me out Charlie, I got work to do…for a few weeks anyway.

Gazzer.

I don’t recall the exact reason for the holdup… Definitely the French farmers though ( again ) possibly cheap ( cheaper ) wine imports , or maybe just because there was an R in that month.

Well after the debacle with Bully have decided that I would out the cows and put them on the internet and sold them straight away to a local farmer so at this moment in time I am with out cattle. Having the cows meant that I would have to calve them and the old cows can get a bit narky when they have new born so in the interest of self preservation decided having a few steers or heifers would be easier and better for me to manage so on the look out now, less work for the time being as well Buzzer.

Buzzer, question off I may, iff bully was being a handful to load up,
How did the knacker man get near him to do the deed, with out fear of injury to himself? M

Chris it was Watson’s and he has a long barrelled gun and did not go in the pen till he was down and sure he was dead, shame as it was a dead loss to me and had to pay £180 to have it done, they cant even send the meat to Marwell Zoo, what a waste, John.

That’s a bit rough Buzzer not been able to donate the carcass to the Zoo or the local Hunt ! I’d like to bet it will be in , cough! cough! the underground food chain now you know the late at night kebab shops etc etc, the ■■■■ heads don’t care what they eat at 2 am as long as it tastes good    Dennis.

Evening Buzzer

As we know all to well when the wheels fall off they usually do it big style, but like you said it’s safer than getting lamed or worse.
Busy day up ere scanning the pure swaledale sheep and it was quite a good scan, 400 scanned and 9 empty so very pleased.
Beautiful day today but very cold probably the coldest so far this winter so more of the same please Baldrick, back to work tomorrow for two days then off on our holidays.

Cheers Wrighty.

Bet you and Alice cant wait to have a break together as your lives seem pretty full on, what I nice work place in’t pictures but different when mother nature chooses I bet. A lot of you sheep farmers have quad bikes for work and that one looks a fair sized beast, how big is the engine and how often do you change it, not cheap either I should think but an essential bit of kit and takes a fair load judging by past pictures.
Don’t forget to take some holiday snaps while your away on your holiday, have a good time and enjoy, all the best Buzzer.

Cheers Buzzer and yes we are both ready for a break but on days like today it certainly makes you appreciate home, the quad in the photo is a 420 and is about three years old we run two because the farm is in two blocks and last year we bought a 500. It would make life pretty hard without them and makes you wonder how they managed in the past…

Wrighty.

Hi all, sorry to hear about the bull buzzer but when they start to get nasty not a lot you can do with them my dad would only move them with a pole clip into there nose ring but still not always easy. wrighty do you live near Hawes have a good holiday you and the wife earn it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Cheers Gerbil

Yes we live about two miles from Hawes int hills where it’s quiet, it gets very busy through summer with walkers and tourists.
Well what a change in the weather cold yesterday and very wet today, sat at Foston in a queue waiting to tip and then I don’t know what’s after this but it’s mi last day tomorrow…

Cheers Wrighty.

Hi wrighty, great photos, we love the Dales, Hawes is a favourite, last time there a few years ago we stopped at Bainbridge Ings Campsite at Gayle, a working farm from would I could gather, tho’ it rained heavily so was unable to explore.
Another time we were stood on the bridge looking into the Gayle beck and an old boy stopped to chat to us (both of farm life experience), a retired farmer he was on his way into town from the sheep sales, prices were discussed, as it goes you know better or worse than last year . he was a Swaledale (the breed) man and interested in what did best in our part of the country. Good grub in The Wensleydale Pantry and a visit to the dairy are a must. Enjoy your holiday, the two of you, well deserved.
Oily

Afternoon Oily

Next time you are in the area give us a shout, our farm is about 5 mins from little ings so call in for a brew.
Alice was production director at the creamery for 15yrs so there ain’t much she doesn’t know about cheese. The pantry is run by the Blades family, also farmers who are very successful Swaledale sheep breeders.

Cheers Wrighty.

Hi all, we had a brilliant holiday in the caravan club site in hawes went for a week stayed for two. We walked across the fields to see the hardraw falls where you walk through the green dragon pub when we got there it was the first year that the brass band competition was back on sponsored by black sheep brewery my wife had never had real ale i ended up carrying her back across the fields good afternoon as specially as i don’t like brass band music.we visited the creamery in hawes as well as you do. Cant remember what year it was probably about fifteen years ago but remember it was one of the hottest September on record.Keep saying we will go back but it’s a long drag with a caravan but still if i retire in march it will be no problem.spent a lot of time around leyburn when i drove for Kawasaki delivering quad bikes and mules. Oh well long gone days as buzzer would say mary poppins moment. :stuck_out_tongue:

The Green Dragon is our local, spend many a night proppin’t bar up…

Wrighty reckon you chose a dam good week to jet off somewhere warmer, just been out to shut up chook’s and its giving it some out there. Cows are gone but don’t know if they are housed or outside but if the latter they are in for a culture shock even though they usually prefer to be outside. Don’t for get to take some pictures while away mate so we can see what you got up to.

Gerbil never knew you ventured up country on ur hols, fancy going so close to where Wrighty farms but it does look pictureskew from the shots he has posted but very weather dependant to work with. Did not realise you were a fan of this agricultural thread with a few trucks but come to think about it I bet you was one of those Southampton lot what parked up every lunchtime at a specific time just to listen to the Archers on was it BBC world service, nearly everyone did that.

On the lookout for a bunch of steers now to replace me cows, don’t know what breed to go for just yet but will be on the lookout and see what pops up. Wrighty see you when you return but just give old Alice a nice time she deserves a bit o pamperin, cheers Buzzer.

I know what you mean Richard was parked up in Preston last night and it was raining, woke up this morning and it was freezing, I did a load into Leeds and then one down to Trafford Park so got onto the M6 about 2.15 on mi way home.
Plenty of snow around ribblehead viaduct on mi way up to Hawes, but just a dusting around home so should’nt bother us ont way to Leeds Bradford airport on Tues morning roll on!

Cheers Wrighty.

Thinking of Wrighty today as he is jetting off to warmer climbs, what some manky weather we have got here, nothing much doing so went on a visit to Salisbury market just to see what the trade is doing on the cattle front. There seems to be no regulation on prices visa vi the ages of stock, a two week old calf making £350 odd then at ten months £600, it seems more sense to buy the older cattle that are nearly there and keep them a shorter time but no real money to be made I think. Looks like we are set for a miserable wet week ahead so roll on the spring eh, Buzzer.
