Buzzer:
Nice day again here but a bit chilly, frost never went off under the hedge rows all day, did me chores this AM with Bully confined in the horse barn but aint happy. Went for a afternoon stroll round the summer grazing lot with Mrs D and young “Woody” who chased some Canada geese but cant just work out how they get away so quick.

Wrighty how did you get on at market today ? just wondered like , cheers Buzzer.

Bloody hell Buzzer I hope you aren’t paying good rent for that rubbish ground !! unless you are going to start keeping goats !! Cheers Dan Archer !

Evening Buzzer

Had a really good day at auction, 11 month old bull made £1170 and two 11 month old heifers made £970 so very pleased. Back to it tomorrow down to Droitwich for 9am, and then up to Audlem to pick up a tank for a 4am tip in Leicester on Sunday morning.

Cheers Wrighty.

Dennis first I will deal with you (A) the rent is reasonable and is close to my home. (B) that picture is the marshy bit of the ground and believe it or not the cattle love it maybe the salt content. (C) if you are an ardent follower of the Archers you will have seen pictures of the better ground, its only a Summer grazing licence anyway and the view is worth the money I pay mate.

Wrighty so glad to hear you had a good day at market, it makes a change to hear someone happy with the results and in market you never know which way it will go but generally good stock makes the money. Suppose now you got to spend some of that on a new outfit for Alice to go away on holiday in so your gunna lose out a bit in the end.

Im’e not usually about at this time of day but could not sleep so got up and made a cup of tea, cheers all Buzzer.

Now then , a question for the TN Agricultural Panel ! Our MP T. Farron ( ■■■■■ a Remoaner has been complaining bitterly recently that if the UK does a trade deal directly with New Zealand after we leave the EU for Lamb it will make our home grown lamb too expensive so our Farmers will suffer ah! :frowning: Can one of the panel explain to me how the Kiwis can ship lamb 14.000 miles around the world and sell it competitively in the UK. There is something seriously wrong if our farmers cannot compete when they are right on top of the market place ! The quicker we are out of the EU the better as far as I’m concerned. Cheers Dennis.

Evening Bewick & Buzzer

New Zealand lamb is flooding into this country because importers do deals with the likes of Tesco, who then sell it as a loss leader under cutting our own home grown lamb. It’s cheaper to produce lamb in NZ because the climate is much better than ours so production costs are lower, NZ lamb is sold in the UK for less than it sells for in NZ and also it does’nt help that british farmers are notoriously poor at promoting our own products.

Ah well back into work tomorrow battling the dreaded M6 down to Droitwich to a dairy that will most likely be full after the weekend, but musn’t grumble soon be jetting off to the sun…

Cheers Wrighty.

Arternoon all…
Hope you have a good break in the sun with Alice , Wrighty.

I’m just back from a very quick visit to the daughters and grandson. Spotted R11 just heading into Tracey from the Segensworth roundabout . I was actually going to call in and see the boys but had a long list of
" Dad Jobs " to do so carried on to B an Q for plumbing bits…

I found a couple of pics , here’s one , filling up at a Shell in Southern Spain somewhere. All I recall is, you could wash the truck, they gave you loads of cakes and water for your custom and they had a big Gekko in a glass tank… Answers on a postcard please.

Best wishes all.
Balders.

Hi Balders, i remember that garage, was brand new about that time…they would wash your screen etc while
you were filling up and give cab a once over if there was no queue waiting…they would even drive off it the pumps
and park it while driver was taking a shower…coffee and cake included as you said…
Cant for the life of me remember exactly where it was, but was on the northbound side, between Seville and Bailen i think.

Mappo you would do anything for a piece of cake that’s because the job you had at DIT was just that going where you chose in first class kit on good Wonga with an understanding boss and plenty of time off at home, what more could you want from an International driving job.

On the farming front Bully goes tomorrow if we get him loaded ok, have set the gates up ready so hope all goes to plan. As for Dennis and the New Zealand lamb I prefer it as its not so fatty, as Wrighty says they got much nicer climate to us and the power of the supermarkets is enormous, for a while the Chinese wanted it as they have become more prosperous and want meat with there bowl of rice instead of egg all the time, something else I learned the other day about the chinks is that they are the worlds lagest producer of apples, aint checked that out but never would have thought it.

When I got up this morning I wuzz thinking of Wrighty jetting off to warmer climbes, we had thick fog here and it did not really lift all day and is coming back in now, real cold and rymee when I walked young woody at 2pm glad to get back in doors in the warm, got to go must turn the roast spuds that’s goin with the Brisket slow cooked five hours, Buzzer.

Evening Buzzer

Be careful with them roast spuds according to the government they’re killers if they are over cooked, along wi burnt toast and whatever else they can think up to make our lives miserable. You would think they would learn to keep their mouths shut after the butter/margarine debacle…
Parked up at Peterborough tonight loading off a farm nr Wisbech in the morning for Acton.

Well Baldrick this weather you’ve been sending is much appreciated, looking forward to our few days In the sun next to the pool it can’t come quick enough…

Cheers Wrighty.

Seen two of yours again Buzzer, first one playing ships husband in Southampton on Friday, something 33 and very clean alongside a bautifull FH in white with “Liner” on the side, and another of yours waiting for a boat in Calais last night, don’t know what one as they all look the same, not a criticism. Been on the train with 2 or 3 of yours in the past and should have asked there names really, might be on here, DD

Today did not quite go to plan, my mate arrived in his truck to take Bully to market but he wernt too keen on the idea and as itried to shut the gate on truck he came at me and we decided this was far too dangerous an operation so sadly I had to call the knackerman to destroy him. Instead of getting a bit of money back I had to pay £180 to have him taken away but still far better than someone getting seriously hurt or killed. All in all not a good day but have cleaned out the pen and now having a well earned cup of tea, Buzzer.

Blimey :open_mouth: :open_mouth: , that sounds a bit lively JD!
Doesn’t sound like you’re having a lot of luck on the farming front lately.
Like you say though. Better the financial loss than the risk to life…

I attach a pic or two of a Blue and White taken from atop of my trailer behind… A handy place to be if a bulls about.

The queue was to attend the first viewing of a new pair of Mappo sandals… :unamused:

Dennis you can get this done but you have to catch the cow bang on in season then you have to have her in a crush to keep her still and thirdly a nail in the post for the chap to hang his bowler hat and trousers on while he performs the operation, Cheers Buzzer.

Buzzer sorry to hear about BULLY, maybe you should have got a livestock company to do the job .Q did he have a ring in his snout,or do they not do that now days.
There is /was always a little hatch-way door on the nearside of cattle trucks box, just big enough for a nice wipper-snapper driver to get out /and in of the box .
.well, this is true, when i was new on the cattle job 21years of age and no idea about the job ,[yet], but we had a job to go and collect some BULLS in a .B.M.C. cattle truck. ONE DRIVER AND ME .
Me with my new -ash-plant stick, waterproof leggings, old nailed boots, trying to look the part as the older men did but did not know it… the bulls were going for slaughter, all the WOODEN side part ions inside the box were flimsy, and ready to close up on the bull when he was at the front of the box “to separate the animals” ,first bull was ready, massive brute, all the ramp was covered in fresh straw to disguise it ,and we were all quite, not to spook him.not a sound just him snorting,“they know when something different is happening” they amble dont they ,swinging their weight around ,i he had a long halter[rope]tied through his nose ring.
The farm cattle man was out side the pen holding this rope,as the lorry folding gates were down along the ramp, hopefully he would just walk up if he touched them gate it would be all hell let lose all the lorry deck was fully strawed down ,next thing i know the driver says to me come on son ,and we go and then he opens the little side door of the box and says to me get up and in the box, he gives me a lift up and im ■■■■■■■■ myself, the head rope had been passed hand over hand through the slates of the cattle box now the bull and the rope are its inside.i am given the end of the rope and i have got to pass the end of the rope that is on the bulls nose that is coming" walking" inside the box swinging its head. i had to pass the rope through a ring inside of the nearside head board.then the rope out side to be tied off…and the bull was coming inside the box i can tell you it was the quickest i had ever moved and out of that little door that was what they were used for [[in and out]the rope was pulled tight to get him up to the front then the partions were quietly closed him . i used to wonder why did they not reverse the
moves and thread the rope first through the rings in the box…i was only a youngster do as your told …i was never ever frightened again of any farm animal but gave then respect and never trusted any…especially mum and calf…that was true not bull…sometimes thing never leave you and that was one …

Have you ever been in a slaughter house when its a bulls time to go,“morto” the slaughter house called "pilgrims Banaham"ANOTHER UNFORGETTABLE MOMENT all because i was a lorry driver.

when on the fridges we/me/us/ used to load BULL meat from GERMANY FOR ITALY ,that was all you would load no other meat with it [supposedly .allegedly]
and you could not load “boar meat with any other meat” and the big old sow pork was called “■■■■■ -pork” …you had to leave the middle hanging rail empty for ITALIAN Veterinary inspection …well the loaders did ,you had no say what so ever ,what was loaded you just opened and shut the doors and controlled the fridge and just a tip if you have a bad smelling odour from a fridge from a[lorry]truck. load of fish or meat, when washed out and dry ,SPRINKLE CUSTARD OR BLANCMANGE powder on the deck leave a time the sweep out “wallah” i have no idea if the meat job is still going on to EUROPE .do i care no…would i do it again NO would i work 18+hours a day not just one day lots for someone elses Eggo NO, i have worked it out .well thought. i must be owed a lest a years wages for all the hours me and hundred of others worked for glory .for bragging rite ,does that still go on???thanks buzzer using you forum ,i just talk a lot ,well type a lot .its better than kicking stones around you could always tell outside a office if ENGLISH DRIVERS HAD BEEN AROUND YOU ONLY HAD TO LOOK ON THE DUST GROUND AND YOU WOULD SEE LOTS OF SCUFFIE MARKS. IT WAS ME also others…lol pdb.

They push the Bloke around in a wheel barrow up this way Buzzer !! it’s the height you know! and the bloke just drops his kecks while stood in the barrow ! :unamused:   Cheers Dennis PS we probably both employed a few drivers over the years who would have jumped at the job considering the state of some of the Birds they consorted with up and down the road !
