Davies Int. Southampton. With photos (Part 1)

Love that picture Buzzer. I’m struck by the similarity of the scene to one Brother Andy took in January 1976 of the back of my trailer in Turkey. After leaving Ankara, you transited the central Anatoloian plains on the way to the Syrian border. This was after passing through the town of Sereflikochisar, you went alongside a massive salt lake called Tuz Golu.

The marks that look as though they are on the windscreen are actually water damage to the photo

I remember the that town. That was a bleak old road down to Aksaray and on to Pozanti in winter! These photos remind of this (below) photo I took returning from Morocco in winter somewhere near Soria in Spain, following another Breda wagon. I remember chatting with its driver on the CB, an Australian chap. Robert

I think ‘Evocative’ may be the word.

Some photos you look at and throw on the heap (before digital) and some you hang onto and hold, and remember the time, the place, the people, the music, the life.

John.

John & Robert just goes to show that similar pictures exist in our collections, why did we not take more. Back then I suppose we did not think that we were in the golden age of International transport, well in my opinion we were. Today we all seem to have mobile phones that are capable of taking high class pictures unlike when we were doing the job when you had to take a bulky camera to get such shots. All good though maybe we will see a few more shots like the one’s we have posted, thanks Buzzer.

Sunrise over another long and rather bleak and deserted road.

I’m quite fond of this picture I took through the windscreen at sunrise on the old canal road to the Adinkerk/Ghyvelde border before the French built the motorway from Calais to Belgium. If you click on it, you can see the mist rising from the water ahead of the barge. Robert

Evening Buzzer

Well it’s a bit of a change in the weather up ere hard frost yesterday rain today, but we can’t complain really it’s been better than last year. Our mas de clo heifer is thriving and is now eating barley so she should start to do now.
Had a wet ride up to Lockerbie today, parked up at Preston on my way down to Chester in the morning.

Cheers Wrighty

Wrighty when you look at those pictures of the countryside around you it is beautiful, I know when the weather is harsh it’s a different ball game but on a nice day its spiffing. The days are definitely drawing out down here and I can tell by what time I shut chickens in for the night.
Tried to separate the Bull from the cows on Thursday but he was not having any of that, we will have to run them all through a crush to achieve that, we got it down to him and one cow but he was agitated and I don’t trust them at the best of times as there is only one winner there just don’t want to leave his ladies so extreme caution needed I fear.
The loader arrived on Thursday for my new tractor but fitting took em longer than they thought as it was scheduled for delivery Friday but hopefully now on Monday photos to follow.
Bought a new McHale bale sqweezer to go on the front so I can move haylage weout holing them, its on Euro 8 brackets so should be easy to put on
The chicken have still not got back into laying proper and finding it a struggle to keep every one satisfied with eggs, had a couple from the Pullets so wont be long before they get going proper. The old hens 34 in number only lay 3 eggs a day and cant send em to market cos of the bird flu thingy just want someone to take em away and be done with,
Cattle all cosy in the barn and eat a fair bit of the wheat straw when I litter them up, it does smell of summer when opened up so I cant blame them for that.
Weather here is also unpredictable, one day hard frost next day rain, cant wait for the Spring to get going. Need to do a bit of fencing in the rented ground which I have for a second year but you need a nice warm day for that and have plenty of time as I cant put out on it till May the 1st but that will soon be on us, cheerio for now Buzzer.

Today my new (toy) or should I say essential farming equipment arrived fitted with its new loader, just got to get used to all the new controls now as a bit different to me old Massey 590. Off tomorrow to collect a McHale bale sqweeze from Chippenham and then need to find a muck grab and we will be complete.
■■■■■■■ down here today so not much one can do but sorted out the tray in the garage with all the nails in so now they are in some order of size etc, do like to be able to go and lay my hands on a certain piece of equipment and know exactly where to find it, trouble is sometimes people borrow things and don’t bring them straight back and you only realize when you need to use it

Looks a tidy outfit Buzzer even matches thi wheel barrow, you will soon get used to the joystick controls they certainly make the job easier…
Parked at Denbigh this evening, two loads into a dairy near Wrexham then yam for two days off.

Cheers Wrighty.

Tony,

As your legal/financial advisor please do not listen to these to reprobates,as it looks like a scam to me,don’t come running to me if you get caught as you won’t have a leg to stand on,I have heard that Charlie needs a new battery for his scooter, and following John’s new aquisition,The Boss is standing in the kitchen as she is now an Ex tractor fan !

Regards
Richard

Just found this in an old box with some old Pesetas…
Loading for Syds I think… San Fulgencia was it or Cippiona?

Greetings all.
Balders.

Nice deep bodied cow there and looks like she’s got plenty of milk too. Do you own her or is it a neighbour’s, nice bit of the green stuff there as well for her to munch on. Watching mine every day now waiting for calves got TB test on Monday all part of the fun of the farming life.
Balls up yesterday after picking up the new McHale bale squweezer got home, thought i’ll spin that round on the pickup bed and get it with the loader but it slid of head over heels and broke the oil pipes of so had to get that fixed today but they would have needed shortening anyways so no major problem and sorted now. Getting low on cow haylage so got to find some of that as well.
Balders that looks like Syd’s at San Fulgencio to me, we did some loads out of that place that’s for sure, mostly Broccoli so not too heavy but always loaded late so you old boy’s had to give it some to get home but usually on the “Love Boat” so it was not all bad, Cheers Buzzer.

Wish I did John, but my wife reconds I have enough trouble looking after myself these days.
I call this small field, a hospital field, as it is only used for seperating cows from the rest for various reasons.
The farmer (she) is very happy for me to wander about , wait for it,talking to the (beasts), as they are called up here.
I get to know them well. Cheers H

Busy today tidying up and final prep for TB test on Monday, cleaned out all chicken and put olduns on internet for sale some one might give em a second life there are about 35 and I asked 30 quid for em so should have a taker from some where. Just hope its dry on Monday as we don’t test under cover, got a Spanish vet doing test she has been here before and only does TB work, not busy in her homeland so she works for my vets, petit and good looking which keeps the helpers attentive Buzzer.

Well , the one in the centre front looks as if its modelling for oven ready !
