Buzzer:
With the sun out and temperatures in the 30’s plus it was time to cut the grass with my trusty 36yo Massey 590 and a 20yo plus mower of ebay for a smidgen over £400, put new blades in and checked the belts and away we went, made a fair job considering the age of the equipment. Going to be hot for the next two days by all account (thanks Balders) and the contractor coming Wednesday to roll it up into bales wrap and cart cant wait for that, then some nice gentle rain please and back to bean picking tomorrow Buzzer.
Thought you still used Scythes down your Buzzer Dennis.
Come on Beswick when I were a lad me old man had a chap cut round a field of rye we’a scythe so the binder did not run it flat but it were 7ft high and they used the straw for thatching.
Now then you can tell “snapper” is back, he says temporary we will wait and see but here is a shot of the yard to appease truck followers for the time being just to show you all he has not lost his touch, Buzzer.
Looks like you’ve got a nice crop on there and nice sweet grass, I hope you had that orange beacon flashing whilst you were mowing it seems to be fashion nowadays to be in the middle of a twenty acre field with the bloody things flashing away. Nice bit of kit the old 590 with the PAVT wheels and the loader, must be worth a bob or two.
Went to Leeds this morning got there at 6.35am to be eighth in the queue by 11 o’clock there was 24 of us sat there, some were diverted and some of us dropped our tanks apparently there was a problem with the computers so they couldn’t process the milk so all the silo’s were full.
Back in tomorrow going down to Aylesbury to tip milk then re-load cream for Peterborough on Wednesday morning, then finish on Thursday for 3 days…
Not me Wrighty I turn that off in’t field but do use it on the road as it looks official like, that old mower did a good job but the PTO has no guard on (naughty boy me) will get one though as three times it picked up grass and wound it up so tight I had to cut it away with me trust Swiss army knife and it was ■■■■■■ hot, vary crop but as you know SSSI so no fertilizer allowed but we will see, im’e not turning it at all as it needs a bit of green in it to cook it when it’s baled and it’s forecast a roaster tomorrow will post pictures when the job is being wrapped up, cheers Buzzer,
I know what you mean about the PTO when I was baling wi mi trusty 956 I got grass round the 4wd prop shaft, what a bloody job cutting it off and you’re right about it getting hot. Looking forward to some photo’s from snapper’s travels in the near future, good to see him back in the fold…
Evening all as promised a fresh pic waiting for the boat to Le Havre tonight Italy bound, unfortunately only trl got washed as truck round scania all day maybe get a clean one next time lol
Regards Andrew
Ps the pork scratchings the boss brought in today John were spot on Trevor hardly got a look in lol
Looks like we are back on track now wi “snapper” back so should be a better mixed input on the Davies thread, Andrew you have been missed and although most do like the Adgeralcultural content a balanced medley would be better so get posting mate, the green beans are in full swing now so let me know when you are in Tracy Island and I can send a parcel, spuds beans and maybe sausages as well, sorry to here about the dirty truck and if PD had time he would have washed her off for you.
On a completely different not Bewick, Dennis as you surname is Smith I was just thinking as you do where did the name Bewick come from as I am a curious man, most company’s are named after the proprietor like ours just interested to know.
Wrighty I forgot to ask you how is the transition of Bargh’s taking over Bassett’s going, it must be a big operation now with that acquisition and wondered how the two companies have integrated or are they run as separate entities, Cheers Buzzer.
As I’m writing this you are probably in the field turning grass and I bet its killing it very quickly, I myself am sat in a lay-by on the A41 cooking in the heat. They won’t let me back into the dairy to load cream till about 5 o’clock, really should be at yam loading hay bales before the weather breaks tomorrow but alas work gets in the way.
I believe Bargh’s and Bassett’s are to be kept as two separate companies so it won’t affect us milk lads, though the general haulage side of the business will likely be integrated at some stage.
Oh well better look keen and go and try and get loaded, great to see you back on the team Andrew and looking forward to some pictures of your far flung travels(unfortunately I can only offer Aylesbury today)
Wrighty you got a good’n in Alice at home doing the graft, it must be hard not being there to help. You are forecast for some wet stuff tomorrow and my contractor is coming in the morning at 9.30 to wrap mine up and hopefully we wont get that wet till later, I never turned it but it is in a very open position and its been warm today with a nice breeze blowing so hope it’s not dried out too much, needs a bit “o” green in it to cook eh.
Going on me rounds in a bit to check cattle so will have a look then, may even call in’t pub for a swift half as its in between the two lots of cattle and it would not be right to miss the opportunity, Buzzer.
Evening all,bit tight on time tonight so parked here just off motorway on national no routiers to be found so made myself a lovely salad watching the world go by lol
Didn’t pick truck up till late so pd gone home would of washed it myself but he’d locked it all up,never mind still looks clean in the right light lol
A real night for cattle watching and a pint as well what’s not to like, supporting local industry as we call it up ere.
Parked up for the night in Peterborough, drop and swap in the morning and then up to Spalding moor for dinner.
With “snapper” back on board and Wrighty with a few truck shots we are back on track with a right old mix of topics with a bit of garden and farming as well, makes the whole thing better so keep em coming Andrew your fans have missed your input, let me know when you are going to be at Tracy Island and I will drop you up some beans and spuds, JD.

Overcast this morning first thing but feeby soon broke through the cloud as I awaited the men with there machines to arrive 9.35 am still a bit of green in the grass and its not been turned, a tight squeeze over the bridge for there gear, the machines are so big now but don’t take long to do the job and in a couple of hours all done and in the barn, not normal to be inside but its not used so just as well and here are the pics as promised, Buzzer.
This chap traveled the world (killing people mainly) but this was just before his Amish adventure. Smoking his last cigarette and recently his last glass of wine. Note the haircut and beard. He was enticed to the USA on the promise of your virginal brides, of which he could have many!
