Davies Int. Southampton. With photos (Part 1)

Buzzer is right, being retired, you can do what you want to a certain degree ,however for year,s of doing what i wanted to ie drive as far away as possible and then come back, that i loved.
I am not a sentimental man at all ,far from it,but i do consider what the wife wants to do before i do anything ,every day i give her the choice of whatever ,then i do the Opposite [ no i do not i am joking] and we have a happy medium …I have not joined any clubs,u3a line dancing bible reading…or worked in charity ,do not believe in it .i done my work let the others do it know…i do not feel guilty getting up at 9.30 am …watching net flix un till 1.30 am…i just think back of all the weekends .missed weddings ,funerals ,school days.bank holidays, 18 hour days, 24 hour on the go days, the whole lot,you have all done it… so no work for me…also no one twisted my arm to do it i wanted to …

If i never went on anther motorway ever it would please me ,the A 34 ■■■■■■ my right of, the bloody containers drivers, absolute bankers, they are like on a scaleletric. they overtake then cannot pass ,is there a tablet they take before they set off ,it used to be Pro-plus to keep you going, theses boys take the opposite…
then you see them having a break as if they haver accomplished something… get on the meat boys that will sort you out…i feel better now…72 today and not had a beer yet just off to start…

Another U3A here also PDB , my wife (before she broke her leg ) was doing table tennis and I am doing advanced Spanish.

Hi every one, I’ve been looking in and loving the topics .
Well done to Steve on his achievement with the London marathon, bloody good time. Is there a sponsor site to give ? .
I popped into Tracy Island a week ago , the boss hasn’t changed one bit. I asked to take a photo or two just to compare with some old ones I took. Hope they come out on the thread.
They are of two of my sons, Matthew and Joe with the new truck, just happen to be vacant, Matt and Richard along side the FH.
Let’s try to post them… Can’t turn them. Sorry.

All flash no cash ?

That’s how we run mate right from the beginning, no harm in having pride in what you put out on the road, Buzzer.

PS. How much cash you got in the bank then ?

Buzzer, wasn’t having a pop, I think your motors have always looked the part, back in the 90’s they were certainly one of the cleanest of the Brits running about at the time.

Re. My bank balance, Not so good as its the 25th of the month

Stupid comment to make then wasn’t it !

mappo:
Congratulations and well done to Steve ( ■■■■■■ ) for completing the marathon in that time,
and for raising so much money for a great cause…I was going to race myself…

Tone … " Was going to race myself ". ■■? … The only Marathon you’ve been in was one of Mick Hayes ( R.I.P )
Hope you doing ok … Missed your Birthday ( 59 was it? )…
Cheers now.
Stu.

I’ll second that rob… As many past and current drivers will agree… We are few but we are mighty… Lol.

Happy Birthday PDB…

Wrighty… We always used to complain when John gave us a " Milk round " like 6 drops of frozen Spain / Portugal but you really do have one with 3 drops of skim… We should call you " Ernie "

Richard QC . Am about to send you a pm, so stand by old thing…

Hope you had a nice day PDB and got treated well, nowadays I don’t look forward to my coming into this world. Out with the team of hosses today down to Lee on the Solent, sausage and chips and a mug of tea but we had to move as the Navy lads turned up doing physical exercises on the square and the controller had a gob on him and the horses don’t like it. Sea flat calm but nippy round the edges.
Spuds are showing through the ground so better think about earthing them up, beans doing well in’t greenhouse next door and they will want planting out soon also but frightened for a late frost, suppose it will warm up in a minuet.
Wrighty sorted the partitions in me truck ready for the sale in Newark on Saturday so could be coming home with some Lim’s, Buzzer.

Evening Stu

Were lucky all our loads are one droppers 28600 litres about 45mins to tip and 30 mins to wash out, it’s usually one drop per day or two if were fairly local. Tipping Manchester in the morning then back up for a Uttoxeter tomorrow afternoon, gone are the days of a dozen drops on a tautliner been there done that now taking it a bit easier…

Cheers Wrighty.

Touchy old bunch aren’t you

I do apologize profusely for any offence caused, just thought it would it were a funny comment…

I stand corrected and won’t make the same mistake again.

However, and again I apologize if this offends, you Davies breakers did have a bit of fame as only having one map for the whole fleet, if you know what I mean ?

I enjoy reading this thread and like the fotos of the motors, I didn’t know that it went so far back as I can only recall the blue and white squadron with the then new fh’s and a few big cab dafs.
One of which was driven by a Brummie chap, who I had the pleasure of a couple of good nights on the drink in madrid with…

Can’t remember the chaps name, must have been around 1998 - 2000 time I think.

How dare you, how very dare you bring that thing into Tracy Island in daylight, “snapper” just cant stay away from his natural home.

John beat me to it but here is the old & the new lol also parked here tonight with kind permission from Horry thanks & who could resist a old n new pic lol

That Volvo don’t look that old Andrew!!

Buzzer:
Well it’s not farming or horses or trucks in tonight’s report but to sing the praises of our younger son Steve who today ran the London marathon and he did it for two little boy’s Reuben and Zachary Smith who are twin’s and live near him, but unfortunately have cerebral palsy and Reuben is wheel chair bound and has become too heavy for his parents to lift him into there car. They are getting a new VW transporter van but this has to be converted with a ramp and lift which cost £10,000 to have installed, the family are just ordinary people and don’t have that sort of disposable income and Steven took it upon himself to raise that amount culminating with the London Marathon today and he did it in 3 hours 28 minutes and 58 seconds no mean feat for a amateur runner. He said from mile 20 to 23 were killer but the crowd and the thought of scoring the goal he set out to achieve kept him going to the finish line.
Completing this today plus numerous other fund raising events by friends of this family in a community who care and all pulled together will mean these two little boys will now be able to have days out at the sea side and venture out to places they could not before, amazing.
So as you can imagine as parents we are so proud of Steve in setting his mind to this task and seeing it through to the finish line.
He is still a little short of his target but there are still some donation’s promised but he is at £9000 plus and we personally will make sure he ring’s the bell and gets the £10,000. needed, as parents so proud of your achievement Jill and John Davies.

Well done Steven not only running the marathon again which is the easier part but the difficult bit is raising money & that amount is absolutely amazing
& takes far longer that running in the event. Hats off to you.
Jeremy

Well said that man!!

Nostalgia, nostalgia when Mary Hopkin’s was a teenager and I wer’nt much older and Horry was a toddler, Buzzer.

Hello to all, thank you for the birthday greetings, they seem to come around faster.

Wrighty i expect you just use a spinner to wash out, not like us old powder tanker men/man,“did get inside”… like 2/3 hour wash your self then wait and get it inspected for your clean cert for the next load ,and i thought fridge work was all cleaning, so enjoy, no doubt you do.

I had a bit of a knock back this week, well i did expect it, ,After i used to post “my driving history” on here and it got stopped “techie reasons"as i used to copy it from my file in stead of writing direct in the” post a reply box", like JAZZANDY and others do, they are more skilled at it than me ,however just off the cuff i decided to send a sample off to “old pond printers” in fact just for a professional to read some of it and that pleased me enough…
However a very pleasant lady mailed me back for more so i sent the lot …and i now after the comments made to me ,very encouraging i realise that i go to much in depth of any task we used to do and try to explain the whys and where-fores,…well fridge work was a minefield, this works this way etc… you get my drift ,and there is to much of it … and no consistences in fact.no actual story,as you all know doing all Europe now ,you would have something happen every trip and a lot of the aggro was self inflected ,because you did not know ,whatever…

lots of the truck type books out, all have robbers ,drugs ,all a bit of this and that happened a lot of tosh ,as you all know the ones that got robbed, normally done them selfs because they had spent the running money, all drugs were started from this end before ,i assumed…if they come from the wrong area they would be mixed up with the wrong ones…as for getting held up in transit by French OR Spanish drivers strike.[hostages]]lol… so what,we all were, they used to be ok to you.
BUZZER i am using your posts , but are they in to detail or just want a story… SEE Andrew cannot keep away 3 months tops…mind you i do like the VOLVO ,I never went to any job because of a company’s trucks.thank you

PDB re loss of running money, no such thing nowadays all cards and windscreen readers but you reminded me of when I took on an American Hank the Yank, we were pushed for drivers and I took him on and outward bound to Greece that night. He had a USA licence which he assured me was legit to drive over here for six months but I never checked that and it was bull crap, any ways he got there ok and tipped and was supposed to catch the ferry back to Ancona and load peaches home. Back then we had to pay cash for the ferries and he rang and told me he did not have enough, turns out he had spent a small fortune refurbishing his dads grave including white stone on the perimeter of the plot he had ceased during the WW2 and interned there. Well as you can imagine I was mad as hell and when he returned that was his end. Always risky doing Greece carrying that sort of Wonga with you and I always secreted it in several places in the truck to avoid the big hit if that happened, MH moment right there Peggy, cheers Buzzer.

Wrighty went to Newark today but did they ever make good dosh, most of the ones I picked out someone else liked them more than my wallet wanted to shell out, the younger cows and calves were expensive but I think it was because it was a genuine dispersal sale. In the end I bought four with two heifer calves and two steers. Put em straight in’t field and just walked down now to ckeck em. You know how it is when you first let them go after they bin shut up all winter and these aint been out till tonight and they had a good charge round. Did not get any pics today that’s a job for tomorrow will post when done. Biggest ball ache is washing the truck out but done all that as if you leave it its a sod to get off, need me bed now as was up early this morning, cheers Buzzer.
