Well it’s been a full day two sheds mucked out,so should do us now until turnout. Day off tomorrow taking the Land Rover for service and it’s first MOT, so a relaxing day for a change…
Cheers Wrighty.
Do love those stone walls but bet they take some maintenance to keep them good. Nice tidy job there mate with the muck cleaning always think that is very satisfying to see it all spick and span.
Went to see an old livestock box today with a view to putting it on a trailer to move cattle about, better than trying to drive them eh, have measured it up now have to find a trailer to suit.
If truth be known if you are on a farm there is never a day off you always have to tend to something, cheers Buzzer.

All flash no cash ?
That’s how we run mate right from the beginning, no harm in having pride in what you put out on the road, Buzzer.
PS. How much cash you got in the bank then ?
If anyone can find me a pic of a scruffy Davies truck then I will donate £50 to a charity of Buzzer’s choice, ps. saw one of yours yesterday Buzzer on A41 and yes it was spotless
Good to see that Andrew handed the truck back probably in better condition than when he took it over. That has got to be better than the “stick it, I’m off to a better job” attitude, has worked for me in the past as there were four long term employers that I worked for and was welcomed back after a ‘greener grass’ break.
I think it’s a credit to you and your boy’s all the ex Davies drivers that contribute to this site and have a bit of banter great site for a good company.
Congratulations to you son what a fantastic achievement i did not sponsor him as we had a local chap running. However well done i have never achieved any think like near to that, i used to run to the nearest village if i was parked up for a weekend with the fridge running, but that was to a bar, and hope i got back ,which i used to,but walk …
Andrew did not really want to leave did he,to keep a motor like that is a real credit, far beyond me…
There is a connection, you Buzzer, and Bewick , you were /are successful transport operators, and both share a “love for horses”,ie transport, carriages, and both had immaculate fleets well maintained , a farm type /small holding background .i wonder if the hard work when you were kids ?made you both rise to the top.

Buzzer, wasn’t having a pop, I think your motors have always looked the part, back in the 90’s they were certainly one of the cleanest of the Brits running about at the time.
Re. My bank balance, Not so good as its the 25th of the month
Congratulations and well done to Steve ( ■■■■■■ ) for completing the marathon in that time,
and for raising so much money for a great cause…I was going to race myself, but got waylaid by Fergie and Monty…
Now on the subject of Davies keeping an immaculate fleet, as JD said, it’s always been that way…even when he used to buy second hand wagons…Same as Andrew I left the company a couple of times, but went back…
There can’t be many family run firms still doing the Euro work anymore…The wages may not have been as good as the
likes of Sea Route or Jamesons etc, but look what happened to them…I was always paid fairly, and at the going rate…In the very early days of trip money, if the job went ■■■■ up, buzzer always compensated anyway…
For me the best times were when there were just a few of us, and was run from JD,s house…and I lost count of the breakfasts that Gill ( the boss ) cooked for me when calling in after each trip…
These have been show before, but to me they were the best days…
Tone I don’t know weather its “This is your Life” or “All our Yesterdays” seeing those pictures again or is it “Magic Roundabout” the last as a lot of blokes chucked a job in on a Friday and shipped out for another company on the Sunday, that’s how it was back then plenty of drivers and loads of jobs too. Not like that today as you said, the kit is good probably better but foreign competition is far greater and you cant get decent drivers like in the past and like any one with a fleet will tell you we have certainly had a few through our door in the past and Horry can name most of them, some excellent, some good , some fair some '■■■■■■ useless. Tony think your brother Keith still holds the record with us on come backs (more than Arnie) but he always left the right way, gave notice and served it.
Roger Limburn holds the long service gong with over twenty years with out a break but he does choose what job he wants to do, they wont admit that in the office but that’s how it is but he is a good representative for the company especially on a new job.
We can talk all day but you are right, give me the old days anytime we worked hard but enjoyed most of it with good blokes, Buzzer.
PS. ■■■■■■ and Horry still aint forgiven you for losing roast spuds of there plates when you turned up at dinner time without a booking.
Congratulations to your son Steve on completing the London marathon, what a good runner he must be to finish in that time and what a good cause as well you must be very proud. Snapper’s old motor is looking extremely clean and a credit to him and Davies International, missing his photo’s from his travels around Europe but hopefully he might sneak a few pics on.
Oh well that’s another three days off gone, so back to it tomorrow for a steady week of milk moving.
Wrighty you seem undecided on which you like least work or work, you drive and that seems to be the easier option to the farm but no doubt you like both. Not for me the driving any more, too much traffic nowadays and if I do have to go any where im’e up early and get there.
Sometimes think PDB got it sussed just a stroll along the promenade taking in the views and sit down on a bench if to have a little rest. but us retired chaps can do that if we choose.
Today had my little loader serviced but thinking of getting a slightly bigger model which they have second hand at the moment so may take a look at that tomorrow.
Spent three hours today trying to get an extension licence for the rented grazing I am about to take on, DEFRA what a nightmare but in the end they told me to move the cattle on May the first anyway as they have recorded my calls so I will be in the clear, next year they are not going to bother with all that. Buzzer.
Well haulage and farming are very similar career’s long hours and poor pay but if its in your blood it’s just there and cannot be removed, born and brought up on a farm my passion for trucks was kindled at an early age.
Watching the likes of G G Gilders and J T Padburys collecting cattle from the farm started It all for me, haven’t had a day off since last September when we went to Portugal but it gives Alice and myself time together doing something we both enjoy so it’s not all bad.
Tipping skim in Kendal as I type, third load of the day oh the joys…
