Evening Buzzer

I know how you feel long day at work got home did a bit of farming and mown the lawns, had homegrown fillet steak for tea and a couple of cans and then bed.
Look forward to some pictures of today’s purchases, a bit more muck spreading and de-horning for us tomorrow.

Cheers Wrighty.

Wrighty as promised a few shots of my new acquisitions, they are very alert to me specially with newish calves so did not go too close but they are a good stamp of cow and I swear there udders are twice the size as what they were yesterday, maybe that’s the doctor green, Buzzer.

They look well Buzzer a nice bunch of cattle the one on the right in the second picture looks to have a really good back end with plenty of shape. Had a look on Newarks web site but there was no sale report for yesterday, a week to settle down and they should start to do nicely. You look to have a nice cover of grass on, ours you could spot a 5 pence at fifty paces but we now have got most of our fertilizer on, so hopefully if it warms up next week we should see some movement.

Cheers Wrighty.

The Boss dibbing in some beetroot seed either side of a perforated hose while I had the job I hate most earthing up three rows of spuds with another three to go probably tomorrow and get the beans transhipped out the green house as its sposed to warm up a tad nex week Buzzer.

Went back after dinner and earthed up the other three rows of spuds, no holding back a keen gardener.

Yes Buzzer .nice looking beasts, what accent do you think they have/?that light big one looks as if it could have a bit of the FRENCH BLOOD CHEROLI the way it is stood, like a ■■■■■ waiting for the bull…

.You do still put in a good days shift,NEWARK and BACK, ID HAVE GIVEN YOU A JOB,even if it was to wash the box out… is that old fosse way the same from Leicester. low bridge by newton old RAF camp. in laws lived there for a long time…Funny though Newark was one of the very worst digs i ever used around 1970s down by the canal ,it was terrible, old sacking between the beds ,cold ,no food ,just like Markayte A5 BY THE MI UP FROM DUNSTABLE…ST ALBANS WAY…

Pleased to see you have the staff to do your back breaking planting…, what a good word “dibbing” i thought for a second you had written dribbling i thought poor women ,must be love…
A good man, cannot be to careful, do not forget, you will have to spend a lot of time holding that gate up with your elbows over the top rung, looking at your new ladies and gents…Poor old /young Wrighty what a fix, no grass, tell him to go to his local Kosha goat butchers shop they will have plenty…time he got back to the trucks for a rest … I still do not pahthom out, how i had time to work, now i spend all the time doing nothing jobs, running around in the car, reading and watching a lot of telly,…cooking shopping ,supermarkets it is full on…you old boys working, do not thing retiring is going to be heaven sent, it is only the test run…pdb.

Hi All,

I’ve just shipped in to Portsmouth, the lads were waiting to ship out, a couple already on the dock with another 4 close behind on the M27.
Regards
Richard

Did a bit in the veg plot today and trans shipped all the French climbers and runner beans out the greenhouse into there allotted lines, beetroot in between and taters all earthed up, nice steady rain now will settle in the beans so all done now except a hoe through now and then to keep the weeds down. soaker water system on the beans and beet just incase it turns out dry. Never planted any of them weed seeds but they always find there way back in to the garden just have to wait and hope it all grows well and then for the harvest, cant wait Buzzer.

PS. Wrighty have sent you a PM.

Evening Buzzer

Well the weather’s starting to look up and warming up nicely, hoggs have gone onto the fell today so that’s 100+ less mouth’s to feed. Next job is moving sheep and lambs out of the meadows onto the higher land, so this years crop can start to grow.

Cheers Wrighty.

Wrighty has warmed up here as well in fact the jumper was removed today, my mate came over with his little MAN truck seven and a half tonner, she was mud flaps touching the ground with my ten Sim steers on board but we only had to go half a mile. Let em go and did they ever run but glad to get out to grass (the rented bit) checked tonight and they have settled down now, forgot to take any pics will do that later tomorrow. Took longer cleaning out the truck and washing the pad down than to move the cattle.
Have not done anything re the bull just yet although I do like the look of him but have a little time as I want to calve indoors Feb/March so something else might pop its head up, Buzzer.

Evening all,

Funny how the growing seasons vary…

Here we are, first bit of May, no fertilizer on , yet we have enough grass , so by next week, given a good showing by Phoebe, our first cut of sileage, and our Hay paddocks are coming well on!

Yet my cousin, who farms on the Fell above Kirby Lonsdale has virtually nothing, (except a lot of water erosion). She has had a really hard time this last winter. We sent her a good load of our organic hay up the back end, and she needed it poor lass.

Buzzer, those are nice beasts that you have taken on. Wrighty, did the lambing go well?

The Tomatoes are growing like crazy, especially the “Moneymakers”, far better than the Beef ones…even the beans are coming on but we are still getting early morning frosts, so they are still inside, but as ever I seem to be having problems getting the Aubergines to wake up!..still its early days yet.

Just an observation, but in so many countries people who have farming, or agricultural backgrounds are involved in road haulage, there is agreat deal of synergy between the two…lots of hard work…for modest reward!

Cheerio for now.

Bloody hell Buzzer no wonder his mudflaps were dragging at least there would not be any room for em to fall over…! Back in tomorrow for two days then off Saturday for a wedding and then three days of farming, lets hope the weather continues…
Yes Saviem we can’t complain about this years lambing we’ve finished and now the hard work starts, as they say up ere “any fool can lamb sheep it’s keeping em alive that teks doin”, now the weathers picking up they should be alright. As lads we used to spend a lot of Saturday nights in Kirkby Lonsdale on the ale, what is your cousins name I might know them…

Cheers Wrighty.

Hello Wrighty,

Janet and Michael Greenwood.

Cheerio for now.

Just to let every one know today is Horry’s birthday. You better slow down you are catching me up, have a good one H.

Hi Horry,

" HAPPY BIRTHDAY " hope you have a good day.

Where has the time gone ■■ Here’s a place you spent a lot of time at,only a few years ago !!

You’ll never catch the old man up :unamused:

All the best Richard & Angela x

although i do not know you, happy birthday Horry, you got to be ok, as us TAURUS make good workers, and drivers!

Saviem i have written the same last week…
There is a connection, you Buzzer, and Bewick , you were /are successful transport operators, and both share a “love for horses”,ie transport, carriages, and both had immaculate fleets well maintained , a farm type /small holding background .i wonder if the hard work when you were kids ?made you both rise to the top.

Wrighty nice work on the barn .

Belated greetings Horry… I guess that pic’s when the FH’s first came on stream?
Mid 90’s…

Fresh faced and the best truck washer in the county.
Cheers now, Balders.

An every day story of country folk a farming picture scope as promised some views of the cattle, every time I have been down I forget to take the shots so today I made a point of it. First the cows and calves that have now been here a week and I swear they have grown, Wrighty them Lims are mighty weary of you and get up soon as I enter the field. Tonight one was pawing the ground like a bull and you can see the dirt dust in one of the shots, now that is reminiscent of what a bull does before charging so I don’t venture too close. It may be to warn me off or could be to scatter the flies not sure so gave them my respect.
The other ten Sim’s I turned out on Wednesday and they look top notch if I do say so myself and are enjoying the doctor green, I take a small amount of cake down every morning when I check them to get them used to follow the white bag but they are bloated on grass and don’t really seem that interested but the aim is for them to follow me when it comes to moving them, had my share of chasing cattle and they always win so hopefully this is the better option.
The rest of the day consisted of going to collect freshly picked strawberries from Titchfield which is local to me and the second lot we have had this year and very tasty they are too. After this I strimmed round and mowed the lawn and had to put the water on the beans as the temperatures here have soared this week and they were flagging a little, not as good as rain but better than nought Buzzer.

Buzzer what a nice herd you have there, Q, how many cattle make up a herd ■■? the young mums look as if to say “look out! here is that bloke again with his nuts in a sack”.
If i am walking the fields ,and there are mums and calfs near by i do a about turn or another route, and miss them no matter how confident i am with animals, around here on the DUKE OF Norfolk’s estate you can go most places, and animals are around to be seen.some bridle ways take you right through the farms…on
south downs…

And yes the ground has got hard, all crying for rain already?

The sea front today was mobbed,i have never seen as many people here, the car parks were chocker, some people park in coach bays ,lots of signs saying" no cars" and they never learn…bit like myself, i expect, ticket please…

PDB sounds like you were invaded by grockles down by the sea today, as for me and the Mrs we went inland to Newent in Gloucestershire to view the bull I mentioned to Wrighty last week. He looked the part in the picture but it was a disappointing trip, he was a midget on my scale of things and the cows I have are on the big side so I gave it a miss and he was not cheap so the hunt goes on.
One thing I noticed is that there has already been some silage baled, round and square bales still in the field not picked up yet, suppose they have taken advantage of the warm spell and nowadays some get four cuts a year of good ground.
Home and sort the animals out and phoned another breeder for a bull now waiting for his return call, he went to Carlisle yesterday and bought a bull so he probably needs to replace the funds, cheerio for now Buzzer.
